Of several destinations abroad, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, etc stand as the comfortable choice for many lower class job aspirant Nepali people. Nepali expatriates working in these countries send huge amount of money to their country as remittance. The remittance sent by these wage-workers has been the key source to sustain their family life back home. Contribution of the remittance both to their household and national economy is widely felt but how stylish is worker's abroad life is yet to be properly visualized. Notwithstanding this, the necessary antagonism between workers and owners in course of production in this capitalist age, which most of the Marxist literature insists, needs to be verified. This paper, therefore, seeks to explore the working scenario of migrant workers in their respected workplace and their living scenario at their rented room. Significant attention in doing this is paid on the process through which workers are assigned to perform types of tasks. Also, information about their work-hour and off hour life, including their relationship with roommates is obtained via observation and interview. It finally concludes that the relationship between workers and owners is not that of an exploitative type, but the relationship among workmates and roommates is undeniably exemplary.","PeriodicalId":170630,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Academic Conference on Research in Social Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125281277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives : The participants will be able to recognize the predictors of Binge Eating addiction among women who suffer from psychological abuse in their relationships and will recognize the role of woman's defense mechanisms in moderating the association between psychological abuse and Binge Eating addiction. Methods : A convenience sample of 380 Israeli women in relationships were located via the Internet, and after consenting to participate in the study, they completed a series of structured questionnaires (The Yale Food Addiction Scale; The Defense Style Questionnaire; Psychological maltreatment of women by their male partners; Level of Differentiation of Self; sociodemographic questionnaire). Results : The higher the level of differentiation and mature defense mechanisms, the less addictive a woman is. However, the level of addiction among women who experience psychological abuse with in their intimate relations, is higher than women who do not experience psychological abuse in their relationship. Among women who experienced psychological abuse in their relations, the defense mechanisms moderate the association between psychological abuse within intimate relations and the extent of the addiction to binge eating.","PeriodicalId":170630,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Academic Conference on Research in Social Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124344610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several recent reports have highlighted the importance of educating students for a diverse democracy. It has been found that interactions inside and outside the classroom affect students’ learning and the incorporation of knowledge about diverse groups in society. Nevertheless, there has been little research into cultural diversity among university students, a gap which this paper aims to fill by examining the influence of multicultural education on students attending Al Ain University in United Arab Emirates. It addresses two questions: How do students react to members of groupstheyperceive as different? How does the mixture of cultures affect their social identity and academic performance?Ten students participated in the study (two Palestinians, two Egyptians, two Sudaneseand twoJordanians) from various colleges at Al Ain University.Focus group discussions were used to collect information from participants. Theresultsshow that students belonging to different cultures react differently and that cultural diversity has both positive and negative impacts on academic outcomes.","PeriodicalId":170630,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Academic Conference on Research in Social Sciences","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134224088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the development and evolution of the society in general, we are witnessing a continuous multiplication and diversification of the contracts concluded between different individuals or legal entities. The legal literature has shown that the notion of special contracts is an intermediate link between the general theory of obligations, which lays down the rules for the formation and execution of contracts in a general and abstract manner and the individual contract that specifically connects two or more persons. The purchase agreement is very important in Romanian civil law because, through it, the alienation or the acquisition of the right of ownership or other rights over the goods in the civil circuit is achieved. In a purchase agreement, according to Article 1720 of the New Romanian Civil Code, the buyer may refuse to pay the price if the seller does not deliver the good and if there is an imminent danger of eviction (art.1722 of the New Civil Code). The opposite is also valid, i.e. the seller is entitled to refuse to deliver the good, unless the price is paid, according to Art.1693 of the New Romanian Civil Code. In the new regulation of the Romanian Civil Code, the practical applications of the exception to non-performance, generally accepted in doctrine and jurisprudence, are found in the field of the purchase agreement. Thus, the exception to non-performance is a preventive defense tool, which can be used by both the seller and the buyer, protecting thus the respective contracting party and being an important means of putting pressure on the other co-contractor, having a very effective comminatory nature.","PeriodicalId":170630,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Academic Conference on Research in Social Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114889700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Edible Woman sheds light to a plethora of issues related to the women living in 1960s and 1970s, such as the influence of patriarchal institutions on them and how the female identity gets oppressed by men and the society. In this paper I will attempt to explore the psychological state of mind of women who feel pressured to fulfil the role that the society imposes on them. I will look into the psychological transformations of the female characters and how they defy gender stereotypes. Eventually I will examine possible solutions to battling the traditional expectations from women based on the actions of female characters in the novel.","PeriodicalId":170630,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Academic Conference on Research in Social Sciences","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125972096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pneumoconiosis is the most prevalent occupational illness in China. In Chinese scholarship and media discourse, migrant workers with occupational illness are almost uniformly described as helpless and vulnerable. While this is true in many cases, this study calls attention to the roles of socioeconomic status and family structure in shaping the differential experiences of workers with pneumoconiosis and their female caregivers. Using qualitative interviews with 19 Pneumoconiosis patients from the Fujian, Shaanxi, and Henan Province in China and their family members, I show that socioeconomic status affects not only the type of medical treatment the individual patients can receive but also their wives’ coping strategies and attitudes towards the illness. Among pneumoconiosis patients with higher socioeconomic status, the patients optimistically await lung transplant surgeries, while their wives become bread-winners of the family and at the same time provide care for them. In families of less socioeconomic resources, however, husbands expect death and wives either remarry or become the only breadwinner. The latter group is also more likely to hold a pessimistic attitude toward death. This study extends the existing literature on occupational disease in China by highlighting the socioeconomic gradient in individual and family-level outcomes in the face of pneumoconiosis.","PeriodicalId":170630,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Academic Conference on Research in Social Sciences","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121283267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
