They transfer train induced loads from the rails directly to the ballast and therefore are the most important part\u0000of the railway structure. As railway traffic is constantly increasing with increasing loads and additional environmental\u0000effects take place it is necessary to ensure safety of the railway. Therefore, the present study focuses on durability of\u0000prestressed concrete railway sleepers. This paper examines new sleepers and sleepers damaged during exploitation. As\u0000all sleepers were manufactured at the same time the comparison of cracking loads and bearing capacity are provided.\u0000Additionaly, a difference between chemical composition of concrete samples from new and exploited sleepers is briefly\u0000discussed. Further, possible causes of damages of exploited sleepers are analyzed.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

Such structural systems are efficient in\u0000pedestrian bridges. A major drawback of these systems is related to corrosion of the steel ribbons. Unidirectional carbon\u0000fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) has a high potential for replacing steel in the ribbons because of lightweight, high\u0000strength, and excellent resistance to corrosion and fatigue. Application of CFRP materials, however, faced serious problems due to construction of the anchorage joints. Thus, the anchorage system is the object of this research.\u0000Adhesive bonding is a simplest technology for joining structural components made of CFRP composites with polymer\u0000matrix. In the adhesion joints, the loads are transferred due to the shear effect. However, a relatively low inter-laminar\u0000shear strength of CFRP decreases effectiveness of the gripping systems. Brittle failure of the bond is often consequence\u0000of stress concentration. An innovative anchorage joint is proposed to control shear stresses by varying a local curvature\u0000of the contact surface. A natural shape of Nautilus shell was chosen for the gripping system, whereas a 3D printing\u0000technique was applied for the prototyping purpose. Mechanical behaviour of the anchorage prototypes made of printed\u0000polymeric material was investigated experimentally.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

The following paper presents a combination of the metaheuristic Particle swarm optimization method (PSO) and commercially available solver based on the finite element method (FEM). After the brief\u0000theoretical description, different alternatives to the PSO method are reviewed and tested. An optimal alternative is chosen and further used. In the second part of the paper, the combination PSO – FEM is utilized for a fully automatic\u0000derivation of input parameters values for the Hardening small strain model from pressuremeter tests. Predicted pressurevolume curves from the axisymmetric FE model gradually converge towards the measured curve until the accuracy\u0000criterion is reached.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

The\u0000positive action of CNTs highly depends not only on its nature, length and amount, but also on previous treatment of\u0000CNTs and quality of CNTs dispersion. It is important to obtain the effects of multi-walled CNTs, dispersed only in\u0000carboxyl-methyl cellulose – commercially available pellets without the use of any commercially available surfactants\u0000or plasticizers. The influence of dispersed CNTs on the rheological properties of fresh cement pastes and physical and\u0000mechanical properties of hardened specimens was analyzed in this work. Compared to the dynamic viscosity of pure\u0000distilled water smaller amounts of CNTs (0.00005–0.005%) reduce the dynamic viscosity down to the 15% whereas\u0000higher amounts of CNTs (0.05–0.5%) increase the dynamic viscosity from 1.3 to 4.7 times. Mechanical tests of hardened\u0000for 28 days cement paste specimens showed that smaller amounts of CNTs (0.00005–0.005%) increase the compressive\u0000and flexural strengths by 38.07– 42.3% and 40.1– 44.6%, whereas higher amounts of CNTs (0.05–0.5%) increase these\u0000strengths just by 21.11–18.82% and 18.33–6.6% respectively.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

Several consolidated\u0000drained triaxial compression tests were performed on two specimen sizes of sand and clay. This article investigate and\u0000compares the influence of specimen size and scale effect on the soil shear strength. The tests results show that the shear\u0000strength parameters are influenced by the clay specimen size. The results indicate that the effect of triaxial clay sample\u0000size is more significant with higher confining pressures. The second type of tests carried out on sand samples shows that\u0000sample size doesn‘t influence the results of the shear strength. Author’s show that clay analyses can be significantly\u0000affected by the choice of the specimen size used to determine shear strength parameters.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

Constantly rising conflicts between customers and builders due to poor quality of foundations show that Lithuanian road builders do not ensure proper quality of work, do not perform the necessary road foundations and research,\u0000do not carry out continuous control of their work. One such example was the construction of the Pagegiai wind farm in\u00002014÷2015. Improperly installed road and crane installation foundations have forced the wind power plant to stop working, which resulted in enormous losses. Additional cluster engineering geological surveys that included a full range of\u0000field and laboratory work made it possible to identify the causes of poor quality work and to properly assess the properties of substrates and primers that are important for safe foundation operation.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

In the beginning, it was used as\u0000an insulation material with very low density. Since then there have been attempts to improve the structural properties in\u0000order to increase materials load-bearing capacity. In the present-day foamed concrete is being used in soil reinforcement,\u0000manufacturing of building blocks and other sorts of construction materials (Mugahed Amran, Farzadnia, & Abang Ali,\u00002015).\u0000The aim of this article is to determine the behaviour and long-term properties of foamed concrete.\u0000Cylindrical specimens (Ø46×190 mm) were used for creep and shrinkage testing. The creep properties of the specimens\u0000were determined by loading them with 20% and 60% of the ultimate compressive stress value (Sprince, 2015).\u0000The compressive strength, creep, shrinkage and specific creep of the material were examined. It was determined that\u0000during 90 days of creep testing the non-linear creep deformations (specimens loaded with 60% of the ultimate stress)\u0000are 4 times larger than linear creep deformations (specimens loaded with 20% of the ultimate stress). Also, changes in\u0000the modulus of elasticity of foamed concrete were researched over time. Foamed concrete modulus of elasticity reached\u000012.21 GPa on the 28th day, 12.49 GPa on the 62nd and 14.23 GPa on the 144th day since the specimens were made.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

DBM have been successfully used in construction and their performance\u0000has been as efficient as the one of commercial mortar mixes, i.e. they boost labour efficiency, and bring down material\u0000consumption. They can be also kept in stock for a long time, and shipped with no compromise in quality. Today DBM\u0000are based on cementing components. And some famous mix mortars are based on gypsum, polymer, and some other\u0000types of cementing components which contain fine-dispersed additives of ground slag, fly ash, and raw sludge. These\u0000mix mortars are applied as smoothing, aligning, waterproof, and safety types of coverage.\u0000This article studies the possibility of involving slag cementing components in manufacturing DBM. Slag Cementing Components (SCC) are hydraulic cementing agents, which\u0000harden both in water and in open air.
