The nasopalatine canal (NPC) connects the floor of the nasal cavity with the anterior part of the hard palate. The anatomical variability of the NPC dimensions and the thickness of maxillary bone anterior to the NPC is related to age, gender and ethnicity. Also the shape, position and number of NPC foramina varies in different populations. Nowadays, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is often used in dentistry and contributes to the depiction of anatomical landmarks. The aim of the study is analysis of the nasopalatine canal morphology in CBCT examinations in a sample of the Polish population. Materials and Method. One hundred consecutive CBCT scans were analyzed. The studied group included 55 women and 45 men, age range: 20 – 30 years. The following criteria were recorded: shape, length and width in the narrowest part of the canal, antero-posterior measurement of nasal and palatal foramina, and medio-lateral diameter of incisive foramen, number of foramina of Stenson and division of NPC, presence of canalis sinuosus and thickness of maxillary bone anterior to the NPC. Results. The NPC measurements were gender-related with mean values higher in males. There was no correlation according to gender in shape of the canal, presence of Stenson’s foramina and canalis sinuosus. The most common was cylindrical shape, and the rarest a banana-like shape. The frequency of single NPC canal was the highest and more often observed in females. Conclusions. It was found that the morphology of the NPC varied in the sample of the population, which highlights the importance of preoperative imaging diagnosis","PeriodicalId":16886,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Research","volume":" 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140690225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike other forms of DILV, the Holmes heart variant is distinguished by the absence of transposition of the great vessels. In this particular case, the diagnosis of DILV was made shortly after birth, but due to the severe nature of the condition, corrective surgery to address the defect was not performed. After a long time, the patient sought a follow-up examination with a cardiologist. Despite the absence of reported anginal symptoms during the visit, abnormalities were detected in the blood morphology, indicating deviations from the normal range. Specifically, the blood morphology exhibited erythrocytosis, and a high haematocrit level. Consequently, an MRI scan was recommended during the visit, which subsequently confirmed and provided a detailed description of the Holmes heart anomaly.","PeriodicalId":16886,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Research","volume":" 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140692017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anconeus epitrochlearis (AE) is an anomalous accessory muscle discovered in 1865. It arises from the vmedial epicondyle of the humerus to the olecranon of the ulna. Its appearance is the result of evolution and has benefits as well as deficits that can be harmful. It is believed that if anconeus trochlearis is present, it replaces the Osborne’s ligament. The muscle is most commonly detected incidentally during the diagnosis of cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS). The aim of the study is to review papers on the prevalence of AE, symptoms resulting from its presence, and conclusions drawn from available sources on PubMed. Review Methods. The review is based on 14 papers found in PubMed and PubMedCentral databases after searching for ‘anconeus epitrochlearis’, ‘anconeus epitrochlearis’ and ‘cubital tunnel syndrome’ published between 1874–2023. Brief description of the state of knowledge. Prevalence varies across different types of studies aimed at identifying anconeus epitrochlearis: 8.1%–23% for MRI studies, 4.5%–8.5% for operative reports, and 5.4%-26.5% for cadaveric studies. The mere presence of AE usually does not cause any symptoms. If the presence of anconeus epitrochlearis is symptomatic, patients complain of numbness in the fourth and fifth fingers of the hand and weakness of thenar muscle, which are symptoms of cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS). Summary. It is likely that AE alone does not cause cubital tunnel syndrome which occurs only when anconeus epitrochlearis undergoes hypertrophy, dispelling doubts about whether the mere presence of the muscle is synonymous with the development of cubital tunnel syndrome. A higher percentage of CuTS was reported in the dominant hand of individuals who had the AE in that limb. Cubital tunnel syndrome caused by the AE is a favourable factor for treatment and post-operative regeneration.","PeriodicalId":16886,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Research","volume":"33 1‐2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140228129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Promising results of using ofatumumab, secukinumab and dimethyl fumarate, both in the clinical case of a 22-year-old patient and mentioned literature, allows the belief that there is a chance for improving the quality of life of those who suffer from coexisting autoimmune diseases. However, it is crucial to perform further research in terms of the necessity and safety of the mentioned therapies, especially in the paediatric population, among whom there often exists difficulty in using treatment not registered for under-aged patients. Furthermore, the higher risk of side-effects caused by combined treatment of two autoimmune diseases should also be taken into consideration.","PeriodicalId":16886,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Research","volume":"53 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140228672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mastectomy of the breast gland is a surgical procedure. It is one of the basic methods of treating breast cancer with stage I to III. Only in the case of stage IV cancer, it is not the basic method of treatment. Amputation of the breast gland is being used when the ongoing cancer process has affected more than one of the quarters of the breast. During this procedure, the wart and its areola are also removed, with the surrounding tissues (muscle fascia, lymph nodes, pectoral muscle). The aim of this study is to show different types of post-mastectomy breast reconstruction with their advantages and disadvantages. Review methods. All relevant publications were retrieved from PubMed databases with the keywords including: “breast cancer”, “mastectomy”, “breast reconstruction”, “Post-mastectomy breast reconstruction”, “implant-based reconstruction”, “Fat Grafting reconstruction”, “Flaps based reconstruction”. The literature which was reviewed came from the last 10 years on methods of breast reconstruction after the mastectomy procedure. Abbreviated description of the state of knowledge. Statistics regarding breast cancer surgery procedures can vary based on factors such as geographic location, access to healthcare, advancements in medical technology, and individual patient preferences. However, some general trends and statistics regarding breast cancer surgery procedures include: BCS vs. Mastectomy: In recent years, lumpectomy (breast-conserving surgery) has become increasingly common, particularly for early-stage breast cancer. However, mastectomy rates vary depending on factors such as tumor size, tumor location, patient preference, and medical recommendations. Summary. Nowadays there are many methods including: implant-based reconstruction, fat grafting reconstruction, flaps-based reconstruction.","PeriodicalId":16886,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Research","volume":"126 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140078813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gardner syndrome (GS) is characterized as a type of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), an autosomal dominant inherited disease which, if left untreated, with 100% risk leads to the development of colorectal cancer. Case Report. The case is presented a of a 40-year-old man who was diagnosed with Gardner syndrome at the age of 12. During his hospitalization, the patient underwent gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and computed tomography (CT) scans of head, neck and abdomen. The examination revealed the presence of extra-intestinal manifestations of GS: desmoid tumours, osteomas, and dental cavities. At present, the patient is scheduled for enteroscopy. Conclusions. GS is a diagnosis of genetic testing, although clinicians should be aware of the fact that up to 30% of GS cases are detected as de novo mutations. The physical examination should always be performed with accuracy to avoid a too late diagnosis of FAP, including GS, which may result in death.","PeriodicalId":16886,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Research","volume":"15 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140083944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
