Guidelines are available nationally and internationally to support these approaches to managing blood pressure and reducing cardiovascular risk. This article discusses the diagnosis and management of hypertension, along with the role of medication to lower blood pressure. Particular consideration is given to the place for different drug treatments based on their mode of action, specific indications and potential side effects. By the end of this article, readers should be able to review how different types of hypertension are diagnosed; compare national and international guidelines; consider the different types of medication most commonly used in hypertension; and evaluate the mode of action and how this influences indication for use and possible side effects.","PeriodicalId":16882,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Prescribing Practice","volume":"81 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136017837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also has an impact on all aspects of life of infants, children, young people and their families, from self-esteem to relationships, education and social activities, mainly due to persistent itching and pain, sleep disturbance and emotional distress. Effective treatment of eczema demands good self-management which, if established early on, can lead to considerable improvements in quality of life and adherence to an agreed plan.","PeriodicalId":16882,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Prescribing Practice","volume":"61 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136017681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
