In addition, resistance to Salmonella has emerged as a global health problem in both sectors. The present study aimed at evaluating the in vivo antisalmonellal and antioxidant activities of 95° ethanol extract of Khaya grandifoliola using broiler chickens as animal model. Animals were divided into the normal control group, negative control group, positive control group and three test groups treated with the extract at 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg respectively. The antioxidant status of broiler chickens was also evaluated by measuring the concentration of enzymatic antioxidants (catalase, glutathione peroxidase) and biochemical markers (malondialdehyde and nitric oxide). The results showed that infected animals treated with the Khaya grandifoliola extract at 40 mg/kg recovered on day 11 after the beginning of the treatment and on day 13 for those treated at the 10 and 20 mg/kg. The antioxidant assay showed that the infection led to the reduction of enzymatic markers in the body of infected animals, while the treatment increases such makers. The infection resulted in a significant increase in serum and pulmonary malondialdehyde. It also caused a significant decrease in cardiac and pulmonary nitric oxide whereas the treatment depending on the doses of the extract tends to normalize these biochemical markers. We developed a Pseudo ternary phase diagram to identify the microemulsion zone by using the oil (clove oil), surfactant (Tween 20 and Tween 80), and co-surfactant (Propylene glycol) by water titration method. We formulated six different formulations (LM1 – LM6) by changing the oil/surfactant and cosurfactant ratio. The developed microemulsion formulation was characterized for various parameters % Transmittance, viscosity, pH, drug content, surface morphology, zeta potential, and in-vitro drug release study. The optimized microemulsion emulsion formulation is further converted into Microemulgel by dispersing the ME into 2% w/v Carbapol gel (LM-G) and further evaluated for various parameters. Hence it was decided to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Jarit Vanga Bhasma (JVB) prepared with special reference to Rasatarangini 18/29-33. Objectives: JVB was synthesized, analysed and its antimicrobial effects were studied in Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans. Materials and Methods: The JVB was prepared and analyzed for the quality parameters mentioned in the Ayurvedic texts as well as the modern parameters like XRD, SEM and EDX to find out the nature of the Vanga Bhasma samples. The anti-microbial study was done to find out the anti-microbial efficacy of the JVB samples. Results and Conclusions: The adopted method for preparation of JVB was able to produce a Bhasma compatible to organoleptic parameters mentioned in the ancient texts. The obtained JVB was grayish white with the formation of the small sized particles as small as a nanoparticle which was confirmed by SEM study. XRD study confirms that Tin oxide is the major compound found in all the JVB samples. JVB showed antimicrobial activity in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans with a concentration of 100mg/ml. The mean zone of inhibition was 12.33mm, 12.33mm, 14.66mm, 10.33mm and 16mm respectively. This outcome further supports the Krumighna and Jantughna properties (Anti-microbial activity) of Vanga Bhasma. It has many health benefits due to its constituents of variety of biologically active compounds those have various medicinal properties in its different part. Amaltaas is a potential medicine when used in Ekal form as well as in compound formulations. Since ancient times, it has been used in different traditional system of medicines for various ailments. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review on the use of Amaltaas as an Ekal Dravya for treating many ailments like diabetes, hematemesis, leucoderma, pruritis, intestinal disorders, as an antipyretic, analgesic and laxative. Amaltaas is being used as a one of the best prescribed remedy for many of the common ailments in day today’s life by large number of physicians. Using Amaltaas as a single dravya with various anupaan may results in optimum health benefit. Ekal dravya concept of using single substances has been mentioned in our ancient Ayurvedic literature. Use of amaltaas as a single drug therapy has been evidenced at various instances in Brihatrayee which is being reviewed in this article. In this review, several topics such as lipid parameters and central nervous system disorders, lipid parameters and depression, lipid parameters and suicidal attempts, antidepressant effects of cholesterol lowering drugs, cholesterol lowering effects of antidepressants have been discussed. The best selected microsphere formulation (F2, containing drug: polymer ratio 1:2) was incorporated into gels with a bio adhesive polymer. The microencapsulated vaginal gels were evaluated for pH, spreadability, extrudability, viscosity, in vitro drug release, drug release kinetics, bio adhesion test, accelerated stability of selected gel formulation. In vitro drug release rate for selected microencapsulated bio adhesive vaginal gel (FS3 gel, containing 1 % w/w of drug loaded microspheres and 0.6 % w/w of Carbopol 934) was found to sustain curcumin over 12h. The results were then compared statistically and obtained a satisfactory correlation. Currently many of the plant’s species have been reported effective as an Anti-inflammatory, but only a few of them have been investigated. Currently many drugs are available to control the inflammation but has several adverse effects. The plant Sida Cordata was reported to have several activities such as Antioxidant, Analgesic, Antidepressant, Antihyperglycemic, Hepatoprotective Antibacterial, Antitumor, Antifungal, Antiulcer, Antitussive, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-malarial, in ayurvedic system of medicine. This study was undertaken to investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of Methanolic extract of Sida Cordata. The methanolic extract of Sida Cordata used for treatment of Carrageenan-induced Rat paw Oedema model with the predefined dose as reported. The experimental groups with higher dose of methanolic extract (200 mg/kg) exhibited a significant anti-inflammatory effect after 2 hr. (p<0.01); based on the observation, the activity was favorable, which is nearly equal to that of the standard drug Indomethacin (10 mg/kg). The methanol extract (200 mg/kg) shows the maximum percentage of inhibition of inflammation 27.06 %. It is also a part of the pre-therapeutic procedures of Panchakarma. Abhyanga improves blood circulation (arterial as well as venous), lymphatic flow and thus offers nourishment to the body cells. It not only de-stresses the whole body but also strengthens the nervous system, improves blood circulation, removes toxins and improves the overall well-being of the person. Besides offering an immuno-modulatory action, it improves the quality of life thus benefitting the persons of all the ages. The ancient Ayurvedic literature as well as modern references was referred to have a critical study of the classification of massage; to compare between Abhyanga and Massage; to study the mode of action according to Ayurvedic and modern view. This being the Bahiparimarjana Chikitsa plays a vital role in improving the quality of life, thus fulfilling the basic motto of Ayurveda. Modern studies have proven that, Abhyanga has potential psychogenic and physiologic benefits. It can certainly be said that Abhyanga, “Adds life to years” rather than “Years to life” and thus bears a strong contemporary relevance.
