The source diversity technique gives path diversity providing a better throughput for layered transmission under hostile environment. For each source, an optimization formulation is set up to find the best transmission route of each transmitting layer. The objectives of the formulation are to maximize a number of transmitting layers and transmission reliability. The source providing the best overall throughput is selected to be the primary source, while the rest will be secondary sources. When the Quality-of-Service (QoS) guarantee of some transmitting layers cannot be fulfilled by the primary source, the secondary source with the best QoS parameters is selected to transmit the layer to destinations. The number of secondary sources used for transmissions is increased until the QoS guarantees of all transmitting layers are satisfied or all network resources are utilized. Network coding is deployed to multi-cast layers from the same source for efficient resource usage. Network coding data from different sources can be used together to decode the transmitting data. In other words, at each destination, it needs only a sufficient number of packets from different sources to recover all transmitting data. In addition, we adopt full maximum-likelihood (ML) decoding and sphere decoding (SD) as the detection approach within the asynchronous relay network. The main challenge for cognitive radio systems is to detect the existence of other users reliably in order to minimize interference. Hence, spectrum sensing is one of the most important and most challenging issues in cognitive radio systems. Different spectrum sensing algorithms have been discussed theoretically and evaluated by simulations in literature. In this paper, a practical application of three different spectrum sensing algorithms is presented: energy detection, prolate filter bank and statistical covariance. The performance of these algorithms was evaluated on GNU Radio platform with USRP2 in the license-free 2,4 GHz ISM Band. An IEEE 802.15.1 signal was used for the performance analysis. The spectrum sensing algorithms were evaluated for detection accuracy and computational costs. In the present paper, the interference alignment is achieved using a number of MIMO relays in a scenario with K single antenna node pairs. A two-phase transmission scheme is considered assuming the channel to be constant during the transmission phases. Firstly, the source nodes transmit to both the relays and the destination nodes. Secondly, the source nodes and the relays retransmit to the destination nodes. By adapting the relays' processing matrices to the channel while fixing the nodes' filters, a linear system of equations is formulated which is solved for the interference alignment. The interference signals can be aligned perfectly at the destination nodes if there are enough relays. A closed-form solution with minimum retransmit energy at the relays is selected if the linear system of equations is under-determined. If the system of linear equations has no solution, i.e., if there are not enough relays, least squares based solutions are employed which minimize the total received interference. The results show that K/2 degrees of freedom are achieved if the interference signals are aligned perfectly. Despite the proposed solutions and spectrum access policies, there is still a big issue in cognitive radio networks with users who may intend (or not) to violate these communication rules and force their radios to access the spectrum bands when some other users are already communicating. These users become hostile terminals in the network and the fusion center has to eliminate their interfering signals. In this context we1 propose a mixed signals separation and classification algorithm that helps eliminating hostile devices. The first step consists in locating the frequency band over which the hostile terminal is communicating and then, by some mixed signals separation technique, isolate and then eliminate its interfering signal by analyzing the obtained signals from the mixture. The DTV coexistence testing was performed in order to review the degree of DTV signal degradation depending on the bandwidth of the secondary users. For this, the criteria of the testing evaluation were selected according to the general characteristics of the ATSC system and the terrestrial truncated radio (TETRA) system were targeted in a narrowband application of DTV White Space Service. Number of works have focused on developing accurate methods for modeling the spectrum usage in order to provide reliable and efficient assessment of the possible spectrum availabilities. This paper proposes a novel method for modeling of spectrum usage based on classification of measured quantities into multiple levels. The distribution of the measured quantities of each level is fitted using a known mathematical model. The proposed method utilizes practical measurements in different frequency bands focusing on both uplink and downlink channels. Although non-orthogonal access employing the MMSE-SIC achieves the entire region of the multiuser capacity in a multiple access channel (MAC), which should be beneficial in enhancing the total user throughput and cell-edge user throughput simultaneously compared to orthogonal access, the multiplexing of multiple users within the same frequency block increases the inter-cell interference in the context of the cellular uplink. The aim of the transmission power control method investigated in this paper is to mitigate the inter-cell interference increase due to non-orthogonal user multiplexing. We employ a weighted proportional fair (PF)-based multiuser scheduling scheme to achieve a good tradeoff between the total user throughput and cell-edge user throughput. In particular, the transport capacity under a multiple unicast traffic pattern is studied for a network of nodes placed on a hexagonal lattice. Different ways of handling broadcast and superposition lead to various communication models. In particular we consider models arising from the use of compute-and-forward/physical layer network coding. If neither broadcast nor superposition is exploited, the normalized transport capacity was previously shown to be between 1/3 and 2/5. Furthermore, we also obtain other lower-bounds from the truncation of such series, and we associate truncation errors.
