Nienaber, Michael Kriszan","doi":"10.2298/IJGI0757287N","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2298/IJGI0757287N","url":null,"abstract":"Against the background of the enlargement of the European Union, Ireland is often mentioned as a key example for the Central and Eastern European countries of a successful European integration process. Thereby, the development of the complete Republic of Ireland since the EU accession in 1973 is analyzed. If you survey separately the economic and social development of urban and rural regions, it emerges that the rural regions could hardly participate in the economic success of Ireland and that disparities have increased. Many farmers are dependent on public welfare to make a living, as the Irish living costs have increased during the last years. Consequently today about one third of the Irish households live - in spite of the economic success of the Celtic Tiger - under the relative poverty line. Against the background of this depletion process, the question comes up whether Ireland can act as a paradigm for the European integration process of Poland. Looking at the initial situation of Ireland in 1973 and the current situation in Poland, several parallels exist, however, also strong distinctions. It is emphasized the role of global spatial data infrastructure to support the joint efforts, worldwide, for the sustainable development of environment protection and efficient decision-making. Geo-information technology and spatial data infrastructure have an important role in the modern world by providing the possibility of governments, local communities, organizations, business sector, academic community and ordinary people progress in solving many problems. Most of these problems have regional or global character. International organization and institutions around the globe provide and share global spatial data about the state of globe and its changes, stressing the importance of public access to information and international cooperation. Approach in building the global infrastructure of spatial data requires the culture of joint working and sharing of spatial data as a common good. Significant support to the global spatial data infrastructure provides cartographic initiative Global Map and the development of geo-information products and services prominent the Earth Viewers. Local population inherits them by generation, remember them and inform both descendants and population of their spatial encirclement. In science toponyms denoting concrete geographic objects are recorded and written on maps with certain spatial borders representing thus a very stable element in studying geographic area. Changes of toponyms occur in longer time, i.e. civilization epochs, and very rarely in shorter time periods, these are usually the cases of sudden change of population or changes of political-historical circumstances of a territory. However, as linked to human conscience, toponyms often get different internal spatial meanings as well as different territorial belonging, where, in dependence on causes, they get narrower or overspread as in the case of Zlatibor toponyms. Total economic development of Zlatibor in the last more than a hundred years has caused this toponym spatially spread and got new forms. It appeared as oronym (name of relief object) and it has kept the same meaning up today, although in one period it was recorded as horonym (regional name) on maps. In the last decade it also appeared as oikonym (name of settlement)-Zlatibor, the name for ex settlement of Kraljeva Voda, later Partizanske Vode, joined with Palisad, but also as the name for wider spatial-administrative region-Zlatibor Region.
