For demonstration boost converter supplying the hybrid switched capacitor converter considered as an example. The boost converter is acting as the bus converter, 42 V bus, while the switched capacitor converter is the point of load converter. The two converters are provided with voltage- mode and peak-current-mode controllers. Converter two- port network models are developed and then stability of the cascaded system has been analyzed. Cascaded system interaction effects, (i) source converter power handling capability with switching load, and (ii) load converter interfacing capability with bus converter, are analyzed. Simulation and experimental results are provided for verification purpose.","PeriodicalId":166704,"journal":{"name":"2007 7th International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122837532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed controller is having capability of controlling the voltage and frequency in decoupled manner. For controlling the voltage, a static compensator (STATCOM) is used as a reactive power compensator along with harmonic eliminator and a load balancer while for controlling the frequency; an electronic load controller (ELC) is used to regulate the total active power at the generators terminals. The STATCOM is realized using IGBTs (Insulated gate bipolar junction transistors) based voltage source converter (VSC), and a capacitor as an energy storage element at its DC link, while an ELC consists of a diode bridge rectifier, a chopper switch and an auxiliary load. The proposed generating system along with its controller is modeled in MATLAB using SIMULINK and PSB (Power System Block Sets) toolboxes. The simulated results are presented to demonstrate the capability of an isolated generating system with the proposed controller.","PeriodicalId":166704,"journal":{"name":"2007 7th International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122929271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed redundant state technique is based on dividing the space vector diagram of the five-level inverter into six three-level space vector diagrams. The modified switching table in this method is based on the principle of similarity between FSTPI and SSTPI (six-switch three phase inverter), where the alphabeta plan is divided into 6 sectors and the formation of the voltage space vector is done in the same way as for SSTPI by using effective (mean) vectors. This approach allows using the well-knowing established switching table of SSTPI for FSTPI, in order to reduce torque ripples in comparison with the conventional DTC method for FSTPI. The validity of new proposed technique is verified by simulation results using Matlab/Simulink and also experimentally by using DSpace 1104 Card.","PeriodicalId":166704,"journal":{"name":"2007 7th International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124045970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The topology of the IPQC itself is capable of providing variable bi-directional DC link voltage and non-reversible current i.e. two quadrant operation, however, application of the hysteresis-band current control (HCC) pulse width modulation (PWM) technique renders operation of the converter in either quadrant, with a harmonic profile at the utility interface conforming to the IEEE 519 stipulations, by appropriately modifying the switching pattern of the 2QSWs. The control strategy is evaluated for the IPQC by simulations implemented in the single-phase topology of the converter. Results confirm that the technique confers IEEE 519 compliance on the converter with regard to the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), and, are presented for unity, and, leading and lagging power factor operations in the rectification and inversion modes respectively.","PeriodicalId":166704,"journal":{"name":"2007 7th International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128956597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The linear drive consists of power converter units, a cable network and long stator windings. These transmission elements can be modelled using two-port theory with frequency-dependent parameters. For characterisation of the frequency dependence of these parameters, polynomial functions, rational functions or equivalent circuits can be used. These characterisation techniques are compared with regard to their relative error. With this constraint, a concept called stability performance index is introduced in the approach for developing optimal control model. Rules for evaluating the stability performance index are presented. A technique of inverse integration is utilized to evaluate the rescheduling actions by using the gradient of the index. This approach has the advantage that it is applicable to systems represented by complex detailed models. Case studies on the 10-machine New England test power system are given to show the effectiveness and efficiency of the approach. The results suggest that this approach is able to ensure the system operation security in avoiding any potential transient instability.","PeriodicalId":166704,"journal":{"name":"2007 7th International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116425976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
