This system generates a continuous wave toward a person's chest set at a distance of 1 m, then reflected to the system. Using a vector network analyzer, the phase of S21 is computed. The phase variation of S21 contains information about cardiopulmonary activity. Several processing techniques are used to separate heartbeat signal from cardiorespiratory signal either in frequency or in temporal domain. The measurements were performed simultaneously with a PC-based electrocardiogram to validate the heartbeat rate detection techniques. The DRA is simply excited by a single slot fed by a microstrip feed line. It is found that the bandwidth of the proposed antenna can be as high as 29%. The antenna gain varies between 5.28 and 7.1dBi across the antenna bandwidth (4.8-6.3 GHz). The antennas have broadside radiation patterns in all cases across the matching band. The envelope size of this antenna is 65 × 50 × 9.5 mm3. The reflection coefficient, the radiation pattern and the antenna gain of the proposed configuration are studied. The study also compares the drain efficiencies of the current-source and switch-type power amplifiers. The appropriate power amplifier needs to be chosen for low-power short range data communication. A fully integrated low-power class-E power amplifier at 869 MHz for short range communication is designed. The power amplifier is integrated using a 0.18 μm CMOS technology. Post-layout simulation results show the effectiveness of the power amplifier. The power amplifier consumes only 487.2 μW at 0.2 V supply voltage. Then, the design equations are extracted for the first time and validated by Surface Mount Technology implementation (SMT) to have a first cut design before the transition to a real design at 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 2100 MHz. A typical UE BP filter is a lossless 2-port network which is formed with certain number of cascade connected commensurate transmission lines. Based on the simplified real frequency technique (SRFT) in Richards domain, driving point Darlington impedance function of the BPUEF is obtained via optimization such that optimum power transfer would be possible between a PA (power amplifier) and the antenna. Using the UE synthesis, characteristic impedance values of each UE is extracted from the input impedance function. Compact UWB antenna, as an essential part of the UWB system, has become the main subject of recent researches. Several techniques have been reported in the literature showing desirable characteristics. However, with an increase in the number of wireless communication devices, there is a problem of a possible electromagnetic interference, as over the allocated spectrum of the UWB system, some narrow band of other communication standards exist. In this paper, we summarize the main recent applied techniques used to suppress electromagnetic interferences with such narrow bands. Three notched bands relative to WiMAX, WLAN and for downlink X-band satellite communication systems are achieved by incorporating a stick of semicircular half-wavelength and open-ended quarter-wavelength straight slots etched in the radiating patch. Dual notched-bands can also achieved by incorporating two Γ-shaped slits and Ω-shaped parasitic structure in the radiating patch. Another technique, applied to suppress interference, consisted of two short-circuited folded Stepped Impedance Resonators (SIRs) embedded in the ground plane. The last presented band-notching technique consists of incorporating slots in both radiating patch and ground plane. The aim of the work is to develop a new class of microwave devices where the main advantages are the eco-compatibility and the low cost. These aspects match the requirements of microwave components for the new generation wireless sensor networks. The key points of this work are the manufacturing process based on physical etching of a metal layer and the implementation of a substrate integrated waveguide components on paper. The antenna is printed on a substrate size 92 × 41 ×1.56 mm3 with a relative permittivity of 4.4mm.
