Cubic high dielectric resonators periodically embedded in a low dielectric substrate were used as a metamaterial lens. Double-negative metamaterial characteristic are obtained around the degenerate mode resonant frequency of cubic resonators. This paper presents an investigation on the effects of the loss of Wheeler cap on antenna efficiency measurement results. Two caps/cavities (one large and one small) are employed for this study and numerical simulation is also conducted to aid the analysis. Both the experimental and numerical results show the loss due to the imperfection of the cavity can cause a serious problem for obtaining an accurate result. Several metamaterial-inspired antennas have been fabricated and the results have confirmed the design predictions. The Z antenna, a simplified version of the metamaterial-inspired 2D electric EZ antenna, has been designed and tested successfully. By introducing resonant quarter-wave short-circuited transmission lines to each long side of the chassis edges, the earpiece speaker section of the chassis is electrically decoupled from the antenna section. Earlier studies indicated that not only maximization of path loss between body-mounted devises by use of monopole-like antennas but also countermeasures against fading by use of multi polarization antennas may be an important issue. Multi polarization can be obtained by perturbing the patch antennas. That is well known as circularly polarized patch antennas. In this paper, a perturbed patch antenna on a small ground plane in vicinity of the human body is characterized for some purposes such as challenge for co-existence of antenna and the human body rather than shutting out the body effects. Liquid crystal (LC) has been given much attention due to its dielectric anisotropy property which allows the change in the frequency and hence the phase of reflection. In this paper, the phase tunability of the periodic array using K15 nematic liquid crystal as the dielectric permittivity is presented. Simulated and experimental results at X-band are used to compare the plane wave scattering parameter from a two patch reflectarray cell of 500 μm. The purpose of this paper is to give an overview of the most recent research on novel measurement methods for small antennas from the UHF band to the 60-GHz band.
