It mirrors and builds upon much of the functionality of the KerrGeodesics Mathematica library. Users can construct a geodesic by providing the initial position and four-velocity, or by providing either the constants of motion or a generalized version of the parameters defining a Keplerian orbit. The package provides methods for computing the four-velocity, fundamental frequencies, and constants of motion associated with a given geodesic along with the location of the separatrix. Angappan","doi":"10.21105/joss.06677","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21105/joss.06677","url":null,"abstract":"Long term observations and space missions have generated a wealth of data on the magnetic fields of the Earth and other solar system planets. planetMagfields is a Python package designed to have all the planetary magnetic field data currently available in one place and to provide an easy interface to access the data. planetMagfields focuses on planetary bodies that generate their own magnetic field, namely Mercury, Earth, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Ganymede. planetMagfields provides functions to compute as well as plot the magnetic field on the planetary surface or at a distance above or under the surface. It also provides functions to filter out the field to large or small scales as well as to produce .vts files to visualize the field in 3D using Paraview, VisIt or similar rendering software. Thus, procedures for image reconstruction are needed to obtain images from those observations. Several factors are involved in the detectability of physical features in a reconstructed image, such as the angular resolution of the observation, point spread function, noise level, and the assumptions of the reconstruction algorithm. The most robust way to test the observability of simulated emission features is by taking a simulated image and reconstructing it with the same algorithms. SIMIO-continuum takes simulated images of continuum emission in millimeter wavelengths and returns the synthetic observation and reconstructed images as if the input image had been observed in the sky with an existing interferometric observation. One of them, the NIRISS Fine Guidance Sensor, provides guide star imaging with a passband of 0.6 to 5 microns through two separate channels, each with a 2.3' x 2.3' field of view (FOV) and a sampling rate of 64 ms$-$data that is taken in parallel and is thus available for every JWST observing program. While the onboard system uses guide stars to provide information to the attitude control system (ACS), which stabilizes the observatory, the astronomical community can also use the data products associated with these 64 ms cadence images as science products. Usages range from studying guide star photometry in search of transient phenomena to using these data to identify and investigate technical anomalies that might occur during scientific observations with the rest of the JWST instruments. Despite this wide range of possible usages, these data products are not straightforward to manipulate and analyze, and there is no publicly available package to download, investigate, and research guide star data.
