This approach is new in two ways: firstly it is based on the concept of generic system, which contains the common elements of an application domain; secondly it considers three types of actors. The computing engineer has to design the generic system which will be used for the design of all applications of this domain. The user-designer is an expert of the application domain and well knows the organisation which has to be computerized. The user-designer adapts the generic system to his specific needs by the use of derivation operations. The end user gets a totally adapted software for his daily job. The main advantages of this approach are a better appropriateness to the final user's needs and a design time saving thanks to the use of generic systems.","PeriodicalId":166034,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Third Basque International Workshop on Information Technology - BIWIT'97 - Data Management Systems","volume":"47 18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134484674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These workflow operations are often only loosely-defined at the outset of the construction and can evolve rapidly as the results of experiments are analysed. Existing commercial workflow management systems are largely based on relational database management systems (RDBMSs) and are unable to cope with the requirements of such scientific workflow environments and, in particular, with the dynamic schema evolution which results from the rapidly evolving scientific workflow definitions. This paper reports on the requirements for object repositories in the implementation of a prototype scientific workflow management system entitled CRISTAL (Cooperating Repositories and an Information System for Tracking Assembly Lifecycles) and considers issues surrounding data duplication between object repositories and scientific workflow management in CRISTAL.","PeriodicalId":166034,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Third Basque International Workshop on Information Technology - BIWIT'97 - Data Management Systems","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131560662","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The corresponding disciplines involve the manipulation and observation of various types of information. Visualisation is an important aspect regarding the use of this knowledge within a variety of tools to assist engineers and enterprise stakeholders in performing business change activities. This work deals with supporting the visualisation of enterprise data within an application development environment. In particular, we describe a mechanism for enabling the visual presentation of query results according to several pre-defined semantic patterns. The architecture of the corresponding system involves the provision of software components that can be plugged into applications to transform tabular query results to more expressive, visual scenes.","PeriodicalId":166034,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Third Basque International Workshop on Information Technology - BIWIT'97 - Data Management Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129977403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
