Este estudio investiga el tema de cómo crear derechos y obligaciones para los jamaiquinos que viven en Gran Bretaña, que sean consistentes con su ciudadanía tanto en las sociedades anfitrionas como de origen, a pesar de sus diferentes obligaciones y responsabilidades con las naciones anfitrionas y de origen. Además, el estudio busca captar la problemática –conflicto o contradicción entre una nueva forma de nacionalismo– del transnacionalismo, y una controvertida forma de ciudadanía –la ciudadanía de la diáspora–. Este estudio está anclado en la teoría de la aculturación y emplea una metodología cualitativa basada en entrevistas estructuradas y grupos focales. El estudio encuentra que, si bien muchos jamaiquinos en Gran Bretaña han encontrado formas de mejorar sus vidas, luchan por tener un sentido de pertenencia a ese país. En segundo lugar, los jamaiquinos en Gran Bretaña son racializados y catalogados como “el otro” a través de percepciones estereotipadas con respecto a sus identidades nacionales. Encuentran consuelo en su identidad jamaiquina para hacer frente a su marginación y exclusión en la sociedad británica. Su ciudadanía diaspórica se aprovecha para desafiar la exclusión en Gran Bretaña. La principal contribución del estudio es proporcionar información sobre el fenómeno migratorio de Jamaica. En general, el estudio sugiere que hay una existencia y resiliencia continua de una comunidad de pertenencia compartida en Jamaica. Este es un recurso vital que debe aprovecharse y comprometerse, dado el potencial de la diáspora para influir en la política exterior británica hacia Jamaica y su papel en el desarrollo de esta.","PeriodicalId":16583,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF OASIS AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"103 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79637590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objectives of this study were (i) the comparison of the nutritional composition (minerals, phenolic compounds) and the antioxidant activities of fifteen tossa jute populations and (ii) the identification of the superior performing ones. The results of the analysis of variances (ANOVA) revealed significant differences between the assessed populations in terms of mineral and phenolic compositions as well as in terms of antioxidant activity (DPPH). The univariate comparison of means tests and the hierarchical cluster analysis identified two interesting groups of tossa jute populations; The first group was presented by P11 and P15; which were characterized by the highest mineral composition; and the second group brings together the populations P4 and P12; which were characterized by the highest phenolic composition. This germplasm recommended to be the subject of further studies to achieve the breeding program to develop more performing variety jute for the Tunisian arid regions.","PeriodicalId":16583,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF OASIS AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88470604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Biofertilization with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), known for increasing the productivity of many crops including potatoes, could be considered as one of these sustainable practices. The purpose of this study was to determine whether mycorrhizal inoculation can minimize chemical fertilization for potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), one of the most demanding species in mineral elements. Thus, by studying the effect of chemical fertilization and mycorrhizal inoculant on potato yield and soil quality. Two doses of chemical fertilizer (NP) corresponding to 50 % and 100 % of the recommended dose has been applied in the presence or not of the mycorrhizal inoculant. The results have shown that adding arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in combination with 50 % of the chemical fertilizer dose gives the best effects. A significant increase in yield, root colonization, and P soil content has been observed (P < 0.001). Thus mycorrhizal inoculation could reduce the application of synthetic fertilizers and thus improve yield while preserving the environment.","PeriodicalId":16583,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF OASIS AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"60 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82974219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each syrup is characterized by its interesting nutritional and bioactive composition. Several studies have been carried out on the production and characterization of each syrup separately, but this study tends to compare the aromatic, physico-chemical, nutritional and functional properties of commercial carob and date syrups. The results showed a comparable aromatic composition whose major compounds are terpenes (carvone and menthol), a difference in color since carob syrup was characterized by a darker brown color, a nutritional composition rich in sugars and a difference in functional properties since carob syrup had greater emulsifying capacity and antioxidant activity. Thus, the characteristics of carob and date syrups encourage their use in the food industry according to the appropriate product.","PeriodicalId":16583,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF OASIS AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"18 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87201857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the extensive use of chemicals pesticides and fertilizers, current agriculture systems facing several major problems such as emergence of resistant in pathogens and pests, soil infertility and bioaccumulation of toxic residues in the environment and particularly in foods which negatively affects human health. The use of natural products harmless to plants, humans and biodegradable constitute a promising way to overcome these problems. Modern agriculture systems are moving toward the use of beneficial microorganisms isolated from the soil, plant surfaces and inside tissues for developing eco-friendly products such as biofertilizers and biopesticides. Recent literatures show that colonization of plants by endophytes is the rule in nature and endophyte-free plant is a rare exception. Endophytes are microbes living inside plant tissues and supporting them in growth and development, as well as stresses tolerance without causing any apparent disease symptom. Abiotic stresses have a great impact on growth, production and health of plants. Many literatures show the role of endophytes in abiotic stress tolerance as well as mechanisms involved to cope with these constraints via the induction of stress-related genes and molecules. This review provides a summary of literature on how endophytes modulate plant growth and responses to abiotic stresses which may help to better understand their role in plant adaptation to environmental constraints and valorize their use in agriculture.","PeriodicalId":16583,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF OASIS AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"86 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78131781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, modern agriculture cropping systems are moving towards more eco-friendly alternatives. This study aims to investigate the bioprotective effect of three volatile organic compounds (VOCs: N-Ethylaniline, 2-Heptanone and 3-Methylbutan-1-ol) produced by endophytic bacteria against 21 phytopathogenic fungal strains and their bioprotective effect on horticulture products i.e. tomato and lemon fruits and Potato tubers. The results showed that N-Ethylaniline and 3-methylbutan-1-ol had better antagonistic activity against the fungal strains by inhibiting the mycelia growth of the studied fungal strains at different concentrations. The N-Ethylaniline showed the lowest effective concentration (EC50) against B. cinerea strain S5 (0,258 mL/L headspace), Fusarium solani strain SB4.15.1 (0,496 mL/L headspace) and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides strain ManS3Fr02 (0,206 mL/L headspace). At EC50 this compound significantly reduced B. cinerea and C. gloeosporioides infections on tomato and lemon fruits, respectively. However, N-Ethylaniline didn’t showed significant effect on F. solani infection on Potato tubers. This study showed the broad spectrum of in vitro antifungal activity of N-Ethylaniline and its effect to reduce postharvest infections of some fungal diseases suggesting its potential use as a biofumigant.","PeriodicalId":16583,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF OASIS AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85507874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 3000 records of 104 goats were collected over a period of 3 years in the caprine herd of the Arid Areas Institute of Médenine (South East of Tunisia). Significance of environmental effects was tested with ANOVA procedure. The adult weight mean estimated in this study was 24.69kg with a coefficient of variation of 24.34%. Local breed was characterized by a low weight. Such a low weight corresponds to low energetic needs, which could be considered as an epigenetic strategy of adaptation to the difficult environmental conditions. Effects reflecting environmental and management conditions along time were highly significant in studied trait. This effect is especially due to the variations of climate, food nutritional quality and herd management along time which change greatly in extensive conditions. Difficult years do not allow the distinction of the best goats, and this is important for breeders who aim to improve the performance of their herds. In order to optimize the productive potential of the local goat population, it is essential to adopt an appropriate feeding management program addressing the most important individual trait which was directly involved in increasing lifetime productivity. The variability detected in local goat population allows to hold expectations for the implementation of selection programmes for productive traits in arid regions.","PeriodicalId":16583,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF OASIS AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75834860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After the silage process, a decreasing of phenol compound concentration of 67.85% was revealed and among 37 fatty acids compounds were identified with a valuable richness in mineralnutrients. The silage was devoid of total coliforms and fecal coliforms and yeast number doesn't exceed 489.95104 by gram of the silage. Correlation studies were done between the Silage and silage by-products parameters to evaluate the fermentation silage process. They showed different significant trends. A social-economic challenge was studied and discussed. Compared to that of using barley, the cost was 3 times less, with better quality for silage.","PeriodicalId":16583,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF OASIS AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78569094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Biochar derived from pyrolyzed green waste at 360°C was used like organic amendment. Nines randomized plots with one square meter of the area of each plot in three replicates have been installed in the Institute of Arid Area in Mednine South East of Tunisia, with two rates of biochar 20 and 40 t/ha were investigated: 20 tons/ha (B20) (2 kg/m²) and 40 tons/ha (B40) (4 kg/m²). The results showed that biochar had a positive effect on soil's physical and chemical properties compared to non-amended soil (Untreated soil). Biochar supply at rates of 20 and 40 tons/ha, causes a decrease in electrical conductivity to achieve 2.66 mS/cm for the B40 dose after 1 year of amendment, also a decrease in the bulk density at the surface layer (0-20 cm) has been registered, the total porosity which was decreased with depth. The hydraulic conductivity is favored by the incorporation of biochar in the soil which increases the volume of voids and tends to create preferential flow paths.","PeriodicalId":16583,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF OASIS AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91285059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 462 kidding resulting from the mating of 11 buks and 185 goats were collected during the period 1999-2014. Two traits were chosen to analyze reproductive performance : litter size and the interval between two successive kidding. The fixed factors included in the model are the age and the parity of the goat and the interaction year × Month of kidding. The means of IMB and TP are respectively 13.85 ± 5.20 months and 1.33 ± 0.49 kids. Young females showed relatively poorer reproductive performance than older goats, indicating possible conflicts between growth requirements and food availability. It seems to have a general increase in TP as the parity progresses to the fifth parity. A large IMB value was observed for the second parity then it tends to decrease. The reproductive cycle of goats is essentially subject to the effects of factors that act on pastoral resources and climatic stress. The genetic variability detected in the studied population allows to hold expectations for the implementation of selection programmes for fertility traits in this local breed.","PeriodicalId":16583,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF OASIS AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74875613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
