Mobility is a feature required by an increasing number of current applications. Mobile applications are often required to work even in a scenario with frequent disconnections. These environments with intermittent connectivity compose the so-called Intermittently Connected Mobile Networks (ICMN), where long disconnection intervals and opportunistic connections are assumed. Although the main challenge in such networks is the fact of designing efficient routing protocols to deliver messages from a source to a destination, there is no research focused on providing a generic framework to validate the existing routing schemes proposed by researchers. In this paper, we study the possibility of creating a networking technology for volatile network environments where messages can participate in forwarding decisions as they progress across the network.","PeriodicalId":164789,"journal":{"name":"2012 6th Euro American Conference on Telematics and Information Systems (EATIS)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121699209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The physiological signals to considering are constituted by records of microelectrode (MER) obtained during deep brain stimulation (DBS) in parkinsonians patients. The MER corresponds to the subcorticals structures: Thalamus nucleus, Zone Incerta, Subthalamic nucleus and Substantia Nigra. The results show that by means of the statistical indexes obtained it is achieved to locate the different subcorticals structures and using as classifier the algorithm C4.5 of decision trees, is obtained a classification of 98.8 % between the structures. In conclusion, in view of the high precision obtained in the classification, the application of this type of statistical indexes could be used in the process of localization and classification of subcorticals structures, and mainly the subthalamic nucleus for neurostimulation.","PeriodicalId":164789,"journal":{"name":"2012 6th Euro American Conference on Telematics and Information Systems (EATIS)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131796461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The diabetic foot is one of the most fearful complications of diabetic patients and is responsible for fifty percent of non-traumatic lower-extremity amputations in general hospitals. Foot complications in diabetic patients can be prevented, in most of the cases, by submitting patients to continuous foot examinations and to a personal reeducation process. This paper describes an extension of SiSPED, a system to monitor patients with the possibility of developing the diabetic foot. In this extension the system has been entirely redesigned and new technologies are used to improve performance and maintainability. In addition, the rules applied to generate automatically a diagnostic report are updated to follow international guidelines applied in the diabetic foot prevention. The system also allows the correlation of patient data, essential to measure the impact of the methodology for diabetic foot prevention on the assisted population.","PeriodicalId":164789,"journal":{"name":"2012 6th Euro American Conference on Telematics and Information Systems (EATIS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131124846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, to make mobility and service perception transparent and uninterrupted between these networks it is necessary that network selection mechanisms ensure continuity of services during the vertical handover. This article proposes a selection mechanism of a wireless access network based on quality of experience (Quality of Experience - QoE) and on the traffic load of candidate networks. The scenario evaluated consists of WiMAX and Wi-Fi networks. The proposed mechanism envisages the use of IEEE 802.21 - (Media Independent Handover - MIH) to assist in the handover process. Simulation results in ns-2 using video traffic demonstrate the efficacy of the proposal, with 12,5% gain in video quality.","PeriodicalId":164789,"journal":{"name":"2012 6th Euro American Conference on Telematics and Information Systems (EATIS)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133622490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are usually two different types of call centers: customer services with human attendants and numeric keypad-driven automatic service. Human attendants have high costs. The use of numeric keypads are not intuitive and increases system's rejection rate. In order to contribute to the reduction of these limitations, this paper proposes an automated answering system with speech recognition for Brazilian Portuguese. As a case study, the system handles phone calls of the Computer Science Department secretary at a federal university. Current version is able to provide automatic call transfer to department's lectures, voice messages recording and automatic e-mailing. Recognition evaluation has been done by means of four different metrics. The metric WIP pointed a speech recognition rate of ~91% for limited vocabulary.","PeriodicalId":164789,"journal":{"name":"2012 6th Euro American Conference on Telematics and Information Systems (EATIS)","volume":"60 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114111387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
