To achieve this goal, a GUI (Graphical User Interface) program is developed by means of LabVIEW software. This implementation is also suitable for performance evaluation, efficiency testing, real-time on-line condition monitoring and protection of transformers with any type of design, size and characteristics. The new constructed transformer testing system takes into account the transformer parameter variations due to changes in electric supply, temperature, saturation and load. The described system is based on using a fast real-time computer based data acquisition system to measure, record and analyze the necessary parameter determination data such as current, voltage, power, frequency and temperature accurately and dynamically whilst testing the transformer. This system substantially reduces the testing time and saves energy while at the same time achieves higher accuracy compared with conventional transformer's testing methods.","PeriodicalId":163141,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132596541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose resource allocation algorithms based on the LP technique to increase the multicast OFDM systems bit rate. The conventional multicast capacity is limited by the user which experiences the worst channel conditions. To increase the multicast bit rate, these proposed algorithms assign subcarriers and bits to different multicast users. Simulations are run over PLC channels and it is shown that the proposed solutions offer a bit rate gain up to 37% compared to the conventional multicast bit rate.","PeriodicalId":163141,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114485034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methodologies for designing a pre-timed arterial traffic controller system were researched. A prototype designed and implemented in Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) is presented. Dar es Salaam Roads have been used to provide data for the design and implementation whereby the neighboring road intersections within a logically computed radius of less than 250m qualified for pre-timed arterial traffic controller. One intersection is a master and the remaining ones act as slaves. Using Very High Speed Hardware Descriptive Language (VHDL), an algorithm has been developed for coordinating adjacent traffic signals along the arterial roads. The use of VHDL enabled the algorithm to be implemented and tested in Xilinx Spartan 2E Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) that functioned and served the purpose of real-time simulation of Arterial Traffic Controller.","PeriodicalId":163141,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"516 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116226773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low cost deployment of these networks is determined by several parameters characterizing this system such as optic transmitters with a relatively large spectrum. The distance between the wavelengths used at the transmitters, the code length, the code weight and the correlation values are taken into account in the formulation of a user communication link performance. This work evaluates the relationship between a network using OOC and WDM parameters in crosstalk situation. Simulations results are provided to validate the model and prove the practical significance of the approach.","PeriodicalId":163141,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133676139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the advent of data services, mobile phones can be employed as capable computers. Many persons have ideas regarding how a phone could simplify transactions they engage in often, but may lack the time or skill to develop such applications. Currently, there are methods to develop such mobile applications but these methods are time consuming, tedious and repetitive. To tackle these challenges code generators can be used. Code generation is a mechanism to produce computer programs in some automatic manner. This technique can enhance software development in different ways by improving developer productivity, producing complete quality code and save time spent on application development. There are currently, no code generators to create complete, useful mobile applications to the best of the authors' knowledge. This paper illustrates how development can be improved by creating a code generator that builds standalone mobile applications, database applications with a mobile interface, and also creates PHP scripts that can be used to view the data on a desktop browser.","PeriodicalId":163141,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116514182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite its simplicity it could potentially leads to high redundant retransmissions causing high channel contention and thus excessive packet collisions in the network. This phenomenon referred to as broadcast storm problem has been shown to greatly increase the network communication overhead and end-to-end delay. Numerous probabilistic approaches have been proposed to mitigate the impact of this inherent phenomenon. However, most of these techniques are inadequate in reducing the number of redundant retransmissions while still guaranteeing that all nodes receive the packet. Further, in most cases they use a predetermined forwarding probability value for all nodes in the network which is quite unlikely to be optimal in other network set up. In this paper, we propose a new dynamic probabilistic counter-based broadcast scheme that can dynamically compute the forwarding probability at a node based on its neighbourhood information. Simulation results show that the new broadcast scheme achieves superior performance in terms of retransmitting nodes, collision rate, and end-to-end delay without sacrificing reachability compared to the existing schemes.","PeriodicalId":163141,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114772265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

European higher education systems are facing common internal and external challengers related to the growth and diversification of higher education and the shortage of skills in key areas. The Bologna Declaration requires the creation of transparent curricula for European qualifications and the creation of free student mobility. This paper proposes a common conceptual model supported by an academic ontology Bologna process (AOBP) to allow interoperability between academic management systems as well to promote automation of academic management. The AOBP is defined using a UML2 specific profile for this business. This domain ontology will permit semantics mappings between different ontology variations and database schemas that may be support really the Bologna mobility process.","PeriodicalId":163141,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Conference on Adaptive Science & Technology (ICAST)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129322949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
