It clinically presents as single, painless, soft, smooth, spherical, translucent and fluctuant nodule with pink to transclucent blue observed in reflected light.The lesion may resolve spontaneously or traumatically with the rupture of the lining, with the release of a characteristic viscous, mucoid fluid. There has been continuous research with an aim to find ways for management having least recurrence rates in various types of oral mucocele. Multiple treatment options have been trialled for eradication of the lesion, including surgical and non-surgical management techniques. The non-invasive methods also comprised of different intra-lesional injections. It has local invasive behavior and accounts for 2-14% of all COCs. The intraosseous DGCT is less likely to occur and less literature is available for the recurrent lesion. Hereby, we present the case of a 22-year-old male patient having recurrent DGCT in the right posterior maxilla. It has been affecting mankind since a long time with its modality of treatment evolving continuously through the years. Dental plaque is the key etiological factor for initiation and progression of periodontal disease. Nonsurgical periodontal therapy is a regimen that aims at removal of supra and subgingival deposits. This therapy is considered as the gold standard for treating periodontal disease. After delivery of antimicrobial agent its concentration significantly exceeds the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and remains in the periodontal pocket for a while. For almost more than 30 years LDD has been used along with the mechanotherapy (scaling and root planing ; SRP) and evaluated its potency. Chaudhari, Seema D Kamble","doi":"10.56136/nhdcjcd/2021_00005","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.56136/nhdcjcd/2021_00005","url":null,"abstract":"Background: Dental caries is a disease that occurs when bacteria, predominantly Streptococcus mutans, colonizes the tooth surface and metabolizes the dietary carbohydrates to acids, resulting in demineralization of teeth. Interventions that can inhibit the growth and survival of streptococcus mutans are crucial to reduce dental caries. Cocoa bean husks, extracted from the shells of cocoa beans have shown to possess anti glucosyltransferase and antibacterial activities. Aim of our study was to evaluate in-vitro antimicrobial activity of ground husk of cocoa beans with and without xylitol on streptococcus mutans. Methods – The study was carried out using 96 well microtiter plate and these were divided into three groups. Group I consisted of Extracted powder of cocoa bean (CBH), Group II was of extracted powder of cocoa bean and xylitol (CBH+X) and Group III consisted of Chlorhexidine (0.12%) (CHX). Minimum Inhibitory concentration was assessed using 96 well micro-titer plate. Standardized strain of Streptococcus Mutans 25175D was used. Results – No anti-microbial activity was seen for group I (CBH) and group II (CBH+X) at concentrations of 0.3%. However, chlorhexidine (0.12%) showed its antibacterial activity at its first concentration only. Conclusions – It was found that ground husk of cocoa bean at 0.3% does not possess any antimicrobial property in in-vitro trial. Though most research labels dental surgical procedures as minor surgeries which obviously has a minimal bleeding risk, nevertheless the chances of the such bleeding increases in patients on anticoagulant therapy. In cases known for having pre-existing diseases such as hereditary bleeding disorders viz. von Willebrand disease, Hemophilia, etc. or those with a past history of exacerbated bleeding present to the clinician a definitive need for use of local/interventional methods to control such bleeding.
