A modified empirical correlation for estimating monthly mean daily global solar radiation on a horizontal surface is obtained by using meteorological parameters, viz hours of bright sunshine, monthly mean daily maximum temperature, relative humidity, and daily M.S.L and vapour pressure. The suggested modified equations (11) and (12) are tested for their applicability to State of Bahrain. The results show an excellent agreement between the measured values of monthly global solar radiation and the estimated values obtained from these equations. The average percentage error for the two equations is 4.3% and 4.6% respectively. Using least squares method, two empirical formulae were obtained for calculating βopt one for all year around, while the second for each month. A comparison between the proposed incident angle with the well known value for the polar orientation shows an excellent agreement. For this purpose, it is imperative to have precise knowledge of the concentrated flux pattern on the outer surface of the absorbing tube. The existing methods in literature are very general and the consequent expertise and computation facilities required to exercise them may prevent their use by the design engineers in industry. In the present paper, a simple but reliable analytical method is developed which enables the determination of the concentrated flux distribution on the outer surface of the absorber tube of a PTC. These are elementary electricity supply to isolated houses, photovoltaic applications in buildings and grid-connected houses, power plants in the megawatt range for utility applications and last but not least, cooperation with developing countries. The Commission of the European Communities has traditionally given strong emphasis to photovoltaic system development. In the budget period 1993-94, the Commission has provided approximately 20 Mio ECU (23 Mio US Dollars) for system development, demonstration projects and regional integration. This represents about 50% of the Commission's total spending on photovoltaics. The European Community institutions, in cooperation with the governments of the EFTA countries, are currently preparing the Fourth Framework Programme in research and technological development which covers the period until 1998 and which will include photovoltaic development and demonstration. The only difference between these collectors was the flow passage materials. These passages were made from locally manufactured Galvanized Steel Pipes (GSP). Propyleneglycol (Thermopipe) and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipes. It was found that concrete solar collector with galvanized steel pipes was as good as local metallic conventional collectors with a daily efficiency as high as 40% compared with 45% for the local metallic conventional one.
