But how can we do that?

The basic problem arises from the US system of funding K-12 education from property taxes. While the picture above refers to college education, it is K-12 education that determines both college admissions and college readiness.

Thus, the only viable solution is a federal solution. This shift has followed in the undergraduate curriculum with a heavier emphasis on empirical methods. Alongside this, the advantages of students engaging in research has become more appreciated. A natural progression of these trends is for undergraduates to use newly acquired empirical techniques in research, and an active literature has developed detailing strategies on how to implement this. This paper addresses an area that has received little attention in the literature but can represent a significant hold-up for undergraduates engaging in research: how to acquaint students with major data sources and understand them. With familiarity and understanding of major data sources, research questions are more accessible and better informed. To accomplish this familiarity, we provide an assignment (prompt, list of data sources arranged by difficulty, and grading rubric) in the form of a short, data-driven presentation designed to have students learn, acquire, and work with a publicly available dataset and present the dataset to the class.","PeriodicalId":160212,"journal":{"name":"Social Sciences Education eJournal","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116471374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their presence is not taken into account in the development of tourism in Bali. It is because there are still stereotypical thoughts about backpacker tourists, namely tourists whose purchasing power is deficient, not environmentally friendly, drunkenness, free sex, lack of respect for local culture, etc. Backpacker tourists classify as more individualistic tourists, non-institutionalized tourist groups, having specific travel patterns that are different from the travel patterns of mass tourists (institutionalized tourists). As with tourists who visit Bali, backpacker tourists also need services and services such as transportation, eating and drinking, accommodation, entertainment, and unique tourism attractions. Its existence also has an economic, socio-cultural, and environmental impact in the areas it visits. The limited research on the presence of backpacker tourists in Bali makes this research important. This study aims to examine the effects of backpacker tourists in the Ubud Tourism Area. Backpacker tourists in the Ubud tourism area impact the economy, socio-culture, and the environment. The economic sector's impact includes the growth and development of local culinary businesses, tourism businesses in the field of cheap accommodation, the development of natural tourism businesses such as rafting, tracking, and cycling, which provide opportunities for business and work to reduce the flow of urbanization. In the socio-cultural sector, the impact includes developing cultural preservation efforts through creativity in dance, painting, and sculpture for tourist consumption. The arrival of tourists in the Ubud tourism area also contributed to the worsening of congestion due to optimal parking lots' unavailability. Backpacker tourists who tend to stay at budget hotels are directly more environmentally friendly because they don't use hot water, bath up, and air conditioning than conventional tourists—the latter stay in star-rated hotels with all the luxury of their facilities.","PeriodicalId":160212,"journal":{"name":"Social Sciences Education eJournal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130029793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the 1910s to 1950s, Korea(colonial Korea, later the Republic of Korea), Republic of China, and Philippines(the colonial Philippines, later the Republic of Philippines), countries shared a similar historic trait, from a feudal state to a foreign colony, then to an independent republic, all under the influence of the USA. Landlord classes in respective countries played an essential role in their historical development and fluctuated their roles with different authorities. The countries all put in efforts towards eliminating or controlling landlord classes to achieve new economic and political models. Using historical data and referencing to the previous analysis, this paper would demonstrate and compare the historic changes pursuing economic and political prosperity that concerned landlord classes of each country to prove the fact that two strategies can be adopted for local state building to achieve economic progress and political stability in that period: either destructing the landlord classes and carrying out land reforms, or having the absolute control of landlords and reaching co-option with them.","PeriodicalId":160212,"journal":{"name":"Social Sciences Education eJournal","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129407877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While agility promises to bring values to business, organisations are facing a range of challenges in their agile transformation journey. This article aims to examine the principles and practices of Agile techniques in automotive product operations. The results find that Agile implementation helps automotive organisations increase customer satisfaction due to the more emphasis on customer preferences and frequent value delivery. Also, Agile promotes feedback loops, and continuous improvement across multi-layers within the organisation resulted in higher-quality automotive products. The implementation of Agile practices leading to higher productivity and efficiency in automotive operations is another finding. Agile approach and practices transform multifaceted aspects within the automotive organisation in terms of strategy, organizational structure, management methodology, processes, people, and technology, which resulted in the sweeping changes across the agile-based company. The final finding is that existing automotive organisations may face a wide range of challenges in their agile transformation journey. By contrast, it is easier for start-up companies as they begin with the blank page and do not need to obliterate anything.","PeriodicalId":160212,"journal":{"name":"Social Sciences Education eJournal","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121552112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Net liquidity balance (NLB), working capital requirement (WCR) and cash conversion cycle (CCC) were utilized as proxies for WCM and pooled least squares regression analysis model was used analyzing the relationship between CE and WCM. Based on three different models, six different hypotheses were tested. The effect of CE financial expenditure and operating expenditure on NLB were investigated as the first model and secondly the effect on WCR and CCC was investigated. The significant negative relationship has been identified between NLB and CE, which implies that these firms do not strive increasing the balance of most liquid assets when facing with CE since firms use debt or bank overdraft as firms don’t have enough internally generated funds to be used in long term fixed investments. Further, the insignificant relationship between operating working capital and CE was found. Based on the investigation, managerial implications of the manufacturing companies have to consider the trend of CE in managing WC and establish trade between CE and WCM in order to enhance long term profitability through fixed asset investment while ensuring smooth functioning of company’s liquidity activities without incurring any liquidity risk.","PeriodicalId":160212,"journal":{"name":"Social Sciences Education eJournal","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123992311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Banks provide financing opportunities for students and their parents who have difficulties in covering their education costs through higher education loans. However, the problem of asymmetric information based on the incomplete information issue between the bank and the higher education students as potential clientele render the banks reluctant to allocate educational loans. In that respect, this study proposes “Criteria for Inquiring Morality of Higher Education Students in the Pre-Control Process” comprised of two main processes, one of which is the prerequisite of the other, and “Pre-Control Mechanism of the Allocation Process for Higher Education Loans” aiming to manage the loan allocation process in a profound and controlled manner in order to solve the financing problems of potential and current higher education students, reduce the asymmetric information problem in the banks’ allocation process of higher education loans, encourage the allocation of higher education loans, and consequently, to reduce the burden of public sector on higher education resource allocation.","PeriodicalId":160212,"journal":{"name":"Social Sciences Education eJournal","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124219335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
