In this paper, the superconducting magnetic energy storage-fault current limiter (SMES-FCL) with the common part of superconducting coil (SC) is presented to solve both problems. During normal operation, the control of SC is employed to alleviate the output power fluctuation of DFIG. During system faults, the SC acts as the fault current limiter to augment the FRT capability. The control scheme of inverter and DC-chopper using PI controllers are described. Simulation study confirms that the SMES-FCL yields the superior stabilizing effect over the individual SMES or FCL.","PeriodicalId":159493,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Applied Superconductivity and Electromagnetic Devices (ASEMD)","volume":"349 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122715378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As its counterpart rotary SRM, LSRM has lower force density particularly with larger airgap. A new kind of hybrid excitation LSRM with both magnetic excitation and winding current is presented in this paper. The presented machine incorporates concrete ferrite-magnetic segmentations and magnets housed in the translator slot. The topology details of presented machine are given. The performance in terms of static force profile and flux linkage with various excitation current are compared to the machine with pure current excitation.","PeriodicalId":159493,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Applied Superconductivity and Electromagnetic Devices (ASEMD)","volume":"47 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122805560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in consideration of the optimization design work of fusion device magnet system, higher volt seconds under a presupposition of a much more economical device size needs to be achieved. In our recent work, a type of HTS/LTS hybrid magnet has been designed for the central solenoid for fusion device. It can provide a maximum volt seconds of 200 V.S with the maximum magnetic field of 19.4 T. The inner HTS part of the magnet is designed with Bi-2212 conductor while the outer LTS part is designed with Nb3Sn conductor. It can meet the requirements of high magnetic field and operation current for fusion device. The structure design of HTS/LTS hybrid magnet has been carried out. Besides, variation of electromagnetic properties according to the flexible structure design of HTS/LTS hybrid magnet and related stability analysis work are also illustrated in this paper.","PeriodicalId":159493,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Applied Superconductivity and Electromagnetic Devices (ASEMD)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124702698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 10 cm tape and a 15 cm tape are connected in parallel. Their voltage drops and current distributions are measured. The limited current in the 15 cm tape is I<sub>1</sub> and the limited current in the 10 cm tape is I<sub>2</sub>. The result of I<sub>1</sub> / I<sub>2</sub> is 0.77 in the experiment. The result of I<sub>1</sub> / I<sub>2</sub> in the simulation is 0.80, which supports the experiment result. The I<sub>1</sub> / I<sub>2</sub> ratio of 0.77 reveals a more evenly current distribution than the ratio of 0.67 shared by two resistors connected in parallel with a length of 15 cm and a length of 10 cm. The current in parallel superconducting tapes tends to rebalance in this imbalance situation.","PeriodicalId":159493,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Applied Superconductivity and Electromagnetic Devices (ASEMD)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129481961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces two different types of superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) to mitigate the short-circuit current and improve the VSC-HVDC system's transient performance. The two SFCLs are inductive and resistive, and will be respectively placed in series with the DC transmission line. From the theoretical analysis and simulation evaluation, both of the two SFCLs can contribute to suppress the DC fault current and compensate the DC-voltage sag. In view of their specific performance behaviors such as current-limiting ratio and mitigating voltage fluctuation, applying the resistive SFCL may play a better role than the inductive SFCL.","PeriodicalId":159493,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Applied Superconductivity and Electromagnetic Devices (ASEMD)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130615957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The electrical tree is a serious threat to SiR insulation and it will cause breakdown when reaches the ground. The high carrying capacity of superconducting cable makes the magnetic flux density up to hundreds of mT around the conductor. However, the effect of high magnetic flux density on electrical tree in SiR has not been researched. In this paper, the magnetic flux density ranged from 0 to 400 mT. The electrodes were typical needle-plate electrodes. The frequency of the applied AC voltage was 50 Hz. The growth process of electrical tree was recorded by a microscope system and the pictures were taken. The experiment result indicated that the high magnetic flux density changes the tree structure and affects the growth of tree length and width.","PeriodicalId":159493,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Applied Superconductivity and Electromagnetic Devices (ASEMD)","volume":"111 3S 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123901172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
