The HIS/sup 2/ is an experimental platform to develop and evaluate technologies that ensure high levels of safety and health care for residential treatment. It records a patient's vital signs, daily activities, and metrological conditions that are then interpreted and manipulated in the data fusion programs. The main goal of the computer simulation is to generate databases that allow us to assess the alarm triggering procedures and tools used in the data fusion analysis programs developed for the HIS/sup 2/. An example of data fusion program, the system for the automatic measurements of the circadian rhythms of activity, which uses these databases, is briefly presented.","PeriodicalId":159453,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 5th International Workshop on Enterprise Networking and Computing in Healthcare Industry (HealthCom)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123817396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this evolving environment, the need to deliver information such as electronic patient records at the point-of-care is a prime factor in managing the healthcare system efficiently. This however presents serious security challenges in pervasive environments such as wirelessly-connected hospitals; where protecting the confidentiality of the information, while at the same time allowing authorized user to access it conveniently is the core issue in the paradigm. We describe the security challenges in pervasive computing environments, and explain why traditional security mechanisms fail to meet the demands of these environments. We use an architecture that incorporates policy based security and distributed trust management to provide a highly flexible approach for accessing electronic patient records that are electronically reacted depending on the users digital credentials. We then present a prototype of the system using a variety of portable devices with wireless technology and include the policy used to test the system.","PeriodicalId":159453,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 5th International Workshop on Enterprise Networking and Computing in Healthcare Industry (HealthCom)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130315039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Deployment of these applications was on ISDN lines or dedicated circuits since the bandwidth, security, and privacy have been the biggest concern in telemedicine. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a signaling standard that attracts telemedicine application developers since SIP was designed for multimedia communications over IP-based networks and has inherent native mode security mechanisms built in. We have developed a SIP-based video conferencing application that runs over the Internet and can provide authentication using MD5 Digest hashing mechanism. This client is designed to provide voice and video services using SIP, currently being standardized by IETF. The client is also integrated with directory service designed on commObject architecture. The video conferencing client performance and interoperability has been successfully tested. We are now working on deploying it in a telemedicine environment. In a telemedicine setting we will gather data from users in order to evaluate user satisfaction for both physicians and patients. There are additional features we have identified that can enhance the patient physician communication and they will be obtained easily from our client in the future.","PeriodicalId":159453,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 5th International Workshop on Enterprise Networking and Computing in Healthcare Industry (HealthCom)","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131865015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the study tracked the amount of water evaporating from the palm over time as the subject maneuvered a flight simulator application, engaging in simulations of difficult or dangerous flights. The consumer software application Fight Simulator 98 (VR) was used as VR content on a PC running Windows 98. In this simulation, the flight begins at Tokyo Haneda Airport, where a jumbo jet takes off toward the south, rising in altitude. The subject is free to select from several stimulating or dangerous flights in advance, and is free to maneuver the plane as its pilot. This thrilling flight is not entirely realistic, although the plane takes off and lands in a specified airport with a real-world counterpart. The volume of water measured from the skin of all five subjects increased synchronously with the thrilling flight, though with some individual variations in volume. This phenomena were considered to represent episodes of mental sweating. A multivariate simulation is used as a way to overcome the lack of experimental data required for studying this decision-making issue. The simulation process needs to be driven in a rigorous and robust way. Due to that, and to deal with heterogeneity and complexity, we make use of an hybrid and refinement methodology. It involves the fusion of several types of models and knowledge, as well as the implementation of a cascade structure for the simulation process.","PeriodicalId":159453,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 5th International Workshop on Enterprise Networking and Computing in Healthcare Industry (HealthCom)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128157755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new concept of health monitoring is described, in which an individual's health parameters are automatically monitored at home without disturbing their daily activities. We review and show attempts at developing such monitoring techniques, which include monitoring during sleep, via the bathtub or toilet seat, daily activities and daily behaviors. These studies show that home health monitoring can be achieved with developed sensors and instruments. Also we show that monitoring daily behavior can be realized with only simple sensors and systems. To realize this concept, fully automated objective evaluations and/or analysis of data must be developed and large scale computational analysis is essential for those evaluations.","PeriodicalId":159453,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 5th International Workshop on Enterprise Networking and Computing in Healthcare Industry (HealthCom)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127637323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
