They are built from data representing instances of the system. The drawback of these structure selection methods is that pay particular attention to the numerical accuracy of the resulting model and little attention to the qualitative and semantic aspect. The use of a large number of input variables results in an introduction of redundant elements, poor transparency and an excessive complexity of the model obtained. To solve these problems, a particular interest should be given for selecting relevant input variables that can provide a reasonable compromise between the quality of approximation, the complexity and the transparency of the model. The proposed approach for structure selection assumes constraints on the number of variables to be selected in the initial combination to describe the model. Relevant inputs are found from input-output data and variables with the highest correlation coefficient with the output variable are selected in the initial combination.","PeriodicalId":158978,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129658937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The DIME computing model introduces the genetic transactions of replication, repair, recombination and reconfiguration to program self-resiliency in distributed computing systems executing a managed workflow. The injection of parallelism and network based composition of \"Self\" identity are the first steps in introducing the elements of homeostasis and self-management in the computing infrastructure. DIMEs inject the architectural resiliency of cellular organisms to create a new class of distributed autonomic computing systems using managed Turing machine networks.","PeriodicalId":158978,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121551642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Simpute: A Simple Genotype Imputation Method","authors":"Y. Lin, Chun-Tien Chang, C. Tang, Wen-Ping Hsieh","doi":"10.1109/CISIS.2012.63","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/CISIS.2012.63","url":null,"abstract":"High-throughput technology for genotyping has made genome-wide associations possible. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data derived from array-based technology are usually flawed due to missing data, although they have generally high call rates and good concordance rates across different genotype calling schemes. Missing SNPs can bias the results of association analyses and hence loci with missing data are removed in some studies. Imputation is a method of compensating for the missing data by filling in the most probable values. It can increase the power of the association study and does not involve extra cost to genotype the missing SNPs. In this article, we propose a simple imputation method (Simpute) that takes advantage of the high resolution of SNPs in either the array platform or the mass parallel sequencing platform. It is based on the linkage disequilibrium (LD) structure of the chromosome and only two nearby SNPs are needed to fill in the missing data. Simpute does not use any reference data. We tested this method by randomly masking the genotype data of the international Hap Map phase III project, and the evaluation is made on Chromosome 21. The proposed Simpute algorithm was compared with two algorithms. At highly linked SNP loci, it performs approximately well as BEAGLE, which is a general-purpose algorithm and integrates lots of information. Simpute outperforms the second algorithm proposed by Jung et al., which does not use any reference samples as Simpute. The best feature of Simpute is its computational efficiency with complexity of order, where n is the number of missing SNPs, w is the number of the positions of the missing SNPs and m is the number of people considered. Simpute provides a simple, accurate and fast solution to the whole genome imputation. We have demonstrated that when the SNPs are densely distributed on the chromosome with high linkage disequilibrium between adjacent loci, there is no need to adopt complicated algorithms. Simpute is suitable for regular screening of the large scale SNP genotyping especially when the sample size is large and the efficiency is a major issue of the workflow.","PeriodicalId":158978,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122959661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the cost to sequencing is dropping rapidly, studies to dynamic change of gene expression in a given biological system over time have shown steady growth over the past few years as micro array, however, statistical approaches to characterize dynamic temporal complexities are currently elusive. In differential gene expression analysis, as somehow limited but intuitive solutions, static differential expression methods without respect to time can be applied, which do not take into account the inherent dependencies in time series explicitly that the expression patterns at later stages are dependent on patterns at earlier stages. We present a statistical framework to define dynamic gene expression patterns over time using trajectory index and Hidden Markov Model (HMM) approach in time series RNA-seq data, and our methods are validated through Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation study in time series dependent data. The utility of the dynamic specific methods for temporal RNA-seq is demonstrated by application to the analyses of gene expression patterns in RNA-seq seven real data sets and MCMC simulation study in details.","PeriodicalId":158978,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"AES-11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126523266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article proposes a solution to increase the reliability of distributed systems based on the Chord Peer-to-Peer overlay. our solution is aimed at providing accurate failure information about the nodes in the system. This is a very difficult task in Peer-to-peer networks due to their dynamic nature and the inability to obtain reliable data from failure detectors. We propose a failure history service used to share failure information between peer-to-peer nodes. This novel service ensures that the information about the current state of a node, as well as its failure history, is as accurate as possible even when facing a large number of node failures. This solution aims to increase the reliability of distributed systems based on the Chord peer-to-peer overlay by providing accurate data which can be used to analyze failures over time.","PeriodicalId":158978,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125939394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cloud application, which runs consuming Cloud resources offered by Cloud Providers, offers open interfaces to their users, which access them from Internet and are often prone to Denial of Services attacks. This work focuses on the mosaic approach for development of Cloud applications, which offers a solution for gathering resources from many different providers. It shows how it is possible to enrich the mosaic platform with tools that, in a simple and transparent way, protect mosaic Cloud application from some well known Denial of Services attacks. The paper focuses on a single kind of attacks, called Deeply-Nested XML, in order to show the proposed approach and offer some preliminary results, which demonstrate the validity of the solution proposed.","PeriodicalId":158978,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130838059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Identification of candidate antigenic stimuli for the vaccine is already improved using immune-informatics. Subsequent test in vivo are expensive and time consuming. There is an increasing request to a modeling approach to speed up this phase of vaccine research. In this paper we report our experience in dealing with cancer vaccine models and we will discuss two different models, Sim Triplex and Metasta Sim, which model the same vaccine but different scenarios. Cancer vaccine modeling is an interdisciplinary research and cannot be carried out without the contribution of all different scientific expertise. We now experience that biologists and medical doctors are progressively convinced that modeling can be of great help in understanding experimental results and planning new experiments. This will boost this research in future.","PeriodicalId":158978,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131813099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a system for traffic control and congestion avoidance. The system monitors traffic using cars acting as data collectors. We propose novel metrics for traffic, and present evaluation results that show the capabilities of the proposed congestion avoidance model to correct traffic conditions.","PeriodicalId":158978,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"358 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133161337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dangerous situations such as forest fire, flood, and terrorism are increasing, and cause serious casualty and property loss. In this paper, we particularly focus on the fire detection system in video. The proposed block-based fire detection algorithm consists of three basic steps. In the first step, we find motion vector utilizing optical flow and distinguish the suspect as fire region. In the second step, we conduct chromatic detection based on Lab color space. In the final step, we employ motion information for detecting the correct fire block by using the characteristics that fire goes almost upward. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields good performance for fire detection.","PeriodicalId":158978,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115344190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
