First, a new gradient search technique using a time-varying step size factor is presented which provides faster convergence rate when compared with conventional approaches. Secondly, a new parallel ALE (PALE) structure is proposed for the detection of a set or comb of frequencies which is used in frequency comb multiple access (FCMA) scheme. In FCMA, for efficient use of bandwidth, the information is carried within the phase, amplitude and frequency of each sinusoid. The proposed solution provides faster acquisition time when compared with the fast Fourier transform (FFT) method in situations where the mutual common factor of the input frequencies is small.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134129208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the case of a bridged FDDI network carrying multimedia traffic is studied in detail. In particular, various channel access mechanisms are proposed for the bridge, and the performance of inter- and intra-network traffic investigated. It is found that simply increasing the priority of the bridge is not effective. However, reserving part of the the synchronous bandwidth of FDDI for delay sensitive inter-network traffic results in acceptable packet loss and delay for both intra- and inter-network traffic, and it may be possible to further optimize the scheme by adapting the allocation of synchronous bandwidth according to traffic conditions.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"111 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133170854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast with conventional VP-shapers, the proposed shaper controls clumping of cells at the VC-level. Its scheduler guarantees the minimum inter-departure time of cells at both the VP and the VC levels. Furthermore, a dynamic priority scheme, where the cell with the earliest inter departure time limit has the highest priority, reduces cell-diffusion at the VC-level. In addition, two QoS levels are defined. Simulations show that compared with a conventional shaper, the delay and CDV performance are very good for high QoS level VCs, even when there is only a small number of low QoS level VCs. The proposed VP-shaper is thus particularly suitable for circuit emulation services. The low-priority VCs support the best effort service class.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115611304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore the constraints on this function become heavier and heavier. The TMN structure is based on an organized architecture with various types of operation systems (OSs). The goal of this paper is to evaluate the performance of NTM functions implemented in a basic OS. The system topology under study is made up by a variable number of network elements (NE) linked to a basic OS that is connected to a higher level OS where we have assumed all the management functions. We show the behaviour of more important performance parameters versus the number of NE obtained with a simulation model of the basic OS.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114581364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
