RFID localization solutions are based either on tag detection count or signal attenuation, yet their reliability are not consistent. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that guarantees a reliable solution for indoor localization. Our localization algorithm confines the userpsilas location by a combination of tag detection and RSSI measurement. The results are refined by the use of filtering algorithm.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124595874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose to apply a classification algorithm to sensor network nodes aimed at target tracking. Localization and tracking is based on a distributed method that enables us to simplify the signal processing and makes a more robust system. Also we address to group sensors, each group or cluster is led by one of them (leader node/sensor). This sensor is responsible for processing all the information about the target and estimate its position. Simulation results show that this classification algorithm reduces the estimate error in tracking targets.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"132 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125633675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This scheme is taking into account the overall packet loss in order to form the optimal effective -for the end-to-end connection- throughput response. Such scenario demands maximum mobility and rapid information retrieval that points to a mobile application. The paper presents an application developed for local and remote use, called InHand, that is context-aware, presenting information related to the current user context and provides location-aware support through the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS). The location system keeps track of a clientpsilas location, schedules client visits for a given day, help user navigate through a map using real-time position acquisition, and gather the pathway followed by a user on a given day. The application has two channels: server and mobile client. The mobile client can synchronize data with the server, and relies on a local database to minimize wireless traffic to a minimum. We use Remote Data Access and Web Services to access remote data in a convenient way. Although the application is designed with book selling in mind, the concept is perfectly extendable to other fields of application.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133844585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The universal approximation property of ANN provides a basis for representing the nonlinear, dynamic EME current sources overcoming the accuracy limitations in conventional models. A simple and effective way to obtain necessary data for training the artificial neural network used in EME modelling is presented. The presented methodology ensures a simple, fast and accurate modelling. The parameters used were extracted by the front-end ETSI Aurora eXtended of a mobile terminal in compliance with the ETSI ES 202 211 V1.1.1 standard. On the basis of the time trend of these parameters, over 3800 statistical parameters were extracted to characterize semantic units of two different lengths (sentences and words). Using the WEKA (Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis) software the most significant parameters for the classification of emotional states were selected and the results of various classification techniques were analysed. The results, obtained using both the Berlin Database of Emotional Speech (EMO-DB) and the Speech Under Simulated and Actual Stress (SUSAS) corpus, showed that the best performance is achieved using a Support Vector Machine (SVM) trained with the Sequential Minimal Optimization (SMO) algorithm, after normalizing and discretizing the input statistical parameters.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124598692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three different test surroundings were selected: the open sky, semi-urban and urban environments, which were tested with three GPS receivers. In addition, assisted GPS performance and the effect of A-GPS on the TTFF was tested with two different receivers. The accuracy of the first fix and time to first fix was determined by the results of these measurements. Based on the results, the impact of the surroundings and devices on position accuracy and start-up times was determined. In start-up times without assisting no remarkable differences were observed between GPS receivers. However, the observed accuracy of the first fix between the most and least accurate receiver was significant.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124020731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over recent years, the designers of tactical networks have realized more and more need for using simulation tools in the process of designing networks with optimal performances, in regard to terrain conditions. One of the most demanding simulation problems is the modeling of protocols and devices; especially on the application layer, because the credibility of simulation results mainly depends on the quality of modeling. A new branch of communications network simulations has appeared for resolving these kinds of problems the - simulations with real communication devices in the simulation loop. Such simulations initiate real-time into the simulation process. The results of our research are aimed at simulation methodology. Using this system, military command personnel, can perform realistic training on the real C2IS equipment connected to the simulation tool, by modeled wireless links over a virtual terrain. We have completed two pilots to collect experience of embedding RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags into concrete elements, its effects to the different phases of a building project and processes related to them. The requirements of identification may vary for each type of these elements. The tagging process and the needs may also be divergent. Our experience clearly shows that identification of elements using RFID in larger scale requires remarkable engagement from the parties involved in the supply chain. The assurement of the readability of RFID tags in a completed building requires elaboration and clearly defined processes already during the modeling of a building. In this research we have focused on the information related to the elements and identification at defined action points to provide useful status data. This status and information is produced through all the manufacturing chain from production post-control.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116795264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
