With this algorithm we introduce several improvements in relation to the existing algorithms that are based on the approach of using Packet Error Rate as the means for channel classification. One is the use of a single criterion for channel classification regardless of the dynamics of interfering systems, which adds more flexibility and reduces the risk of erroneous channel classification. The second is the introduction of the concept of channel probing which ensures that channels that are excluded from the hopset are not used until they are clear from interference. The third improvement is the parameterization of the algorithm, which enables the control of the trade off between the main achievements of the algorithm: throughput and quickness of adaptation to changing interference. We show these achievements of the proposed algorithm through simulation.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134442993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The signal is first digitized using a high speed, wide band, analog to digital convertor and all subsequent processing including channelization is done digitally. The channelized front end is designed using polyphase fast Fourier transform (FFT) technique which is highly efficient for separation and down conversion of equally spaced channels and hence suitable for the detection of frequency hopped signals. It also has a high degree of flexibility and can be reconfigured on the fly to intercept different frequency bands.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114330810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most important issue with laser eye surgery is estimation of temperature rise in eye tissues due to absorption of high intensity laser radiation. Model of the human eye, using the finite elements method, is developed in order to study the temperature distribution in the human eye subjected to radiation by several lasers, covering the electromagnetic spectrum from ultraviolet to visible and infrared. The mathematical model is based on the space-time dependent Pennespsila bioheat transfer equation supplemented with natural boundary condition equations for cornea and sclera. The results could prove to be useful in predicting the damage to intraocular tissues due to heating by laser radiation, but alongside the thermal effects, it could be used to evaluate other interaction mechanisms, such as photoablation, plasma-induced ablation and photodisruption.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128423211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we question its applicability to Voice-over-IP (VoIP) systems and propose a preliminary VoIP-eM equation and research directions to examine this question. The issues to examine include the linearity of adding the disparate transmission parameters, the random assumption behind the packet loss and interpretation of Id and Ie equation parameters representing impairments due to echo and delay, and impairments from transmission equipment, respectively. Further examination into the combined behavior of packet loss and packet delay, and other impairment scenarios including the environmental factors such as background conditions will also form a part of this investigation. In addition, demographics and languages spoken may show the variability in the R to MOS prediction and will therefore be investigated. The new QoS models will be evaluated for CODEC G.711, G.729, AMR, and GSM-FR. The proposed work will lead towards developing a dynamic QoS monitoring and active control system for the future heterogeneous VoIP networks.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121469440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

JXTA, an interoperable and platform independent peer-to-peer computing infrastructure, has been adopted in an increasing number of network applications providing cooperative services and more specifically a file-sharing service through the CMS layer (content manager service). In this paper, we propose a generic P2P semantic service oriented architecture (GSS) which encapsulates and enhances the JXTA-CMS architecture, by offering a generic support for services of any kind, as well as by adding a semantic layer at the resource description level. In order to manage and secure the use of services, GSS relies on the integration of reputation-based and semantic policy-based trust management. An application called ldquoshare ITrdquo has been implemented to validate the GSS architecture.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124530872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As user mobility is the focus of WPANs some questions arise when developing applications for it, specifically handoff management. Despite Bluetooth having been used for WPAN applications it does not have facilities for handoff management. It provides inquiry and paging operations that have priority over application data in the interface. This property has an impact for real-time applications. In this work a Bluetooth handoff management is modelled and analysed using Coloured Petri Nets. All the signalling and message exchanging are done by access points and never by the mobile devices during handoff. Moreover, the protocol uses only standard Bluetooth operations.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116054886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When testing the performance of a device (system under test-SUT), the test environment simulates the latter real-life environment of the SUT. The number of hosts in the test environment is however way less than the number of hosts the SUT will have to serve in its real-life environment. Thus, real-life hosts are simulated by software entities, the so-called test components that have to be optimally assigned and then executed on the hosts of the test environment (testing hosts). Our goal is to emulate all the test components by as few testing hosts as possible, that is, to maximize the load on the testing hosts. The problem to be solved is a special case of the task assignment problem for which many solutions have been developed. Our solutions presented in this paper are, however, optimized for distributing load testing traffic. Thus the possibilities and restrictions we had to take into account are very different from those of the classical task assignment case. One of the solutions we present extends existing bin packing heuristics, while the other one solves a series of integer linear programs to make the assignments. Our simulations have shown that by applying our solutions, the average load level on testing hosts can be significantly increased.","PeriodicalId":157790,"journal":{"name":"2008 16th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128876113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
