They interrupt the operations of the traffic stream. Therefore, the objective of this research is to improve the performance of traffic signal control at mid-block pedestrian crossings. This objective can be achieved by optimization of the signal timing plans. Two mid-block pedestrian crossings located in Cairo-Suez desert road in Suez City, Egypt were selected in this study. They are controlled by traffic signals. The selected pedestrian crossings were modeled and analyzed using the micro-simulation software VISSIM. The collected data were used to calibrate and validate the developed model. Signal timing models were developed for the selected pedestrian crossings. They used for optimization of vehicle delay and pedestrian delay times. Various values of performance index function (PI) are generated for different values of cycle length (C); then, the minimum value of PI is selected as the optimum design. The results showed that the changing of signal timing was successful in improving the operational performance of the traffic signals under study.","PeriodicalId":15707,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Science and Technology Review","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75060497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quality of seeds has a significant impact on crop yield. The importance of seed classification to both marketing and production can be shown by realizing that sustainable agricultural systems depend on these principles. This research is primarily aimed at providing a means to generate uniform seed varieties, as seed is not certified as a single variety. To achieve consistent seed classification, we have proposed Extreme Gradient Boosting ensembles using the Synthetic Minority Over-Sampling Methodology (SMOTE) to differentiate seven distinct registered types of dry beans with similar characteristics. There were a total of 13,611 grains from seven different varieties of dry beans sampled for the classification model. Classification algorithms based on machine learning like Decision Tree (DT), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Adaptive Boosting classifier, Bagging Classifier, and Extreme Gradient Boosting ensembles using the Synthetic Minority Over-Sampling Methodology (SMOTE) were developed and compared. Overall correct classification rates for SVM, MLP, DT, Adaboost, Bagging, and Extreme Gradient Boost classifiers were 94.44%, 94.48%, 96.53%, 96.35%, 96.89%, and 97.32%, respectively. Extreme Gradient Boosting ensembles using the SMOTE classification model have the best accuracy. The results of this study satisfy the producers' and customers' demand for uniform bean varieties.","PeriodicalId":15707,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Science and Technology Review","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82046896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tradeoff between performance and robustness is done by adjusting the tuning parameter of the controller. The present tuning method shows better performances in terms of overshoot (OS), settling time and ITAE error index. Simulated results of various processes are compared with recently published tuning methods and it provide better response in set point change and comparable in load change. A set point weighting parameter ‘b’ is used to remove the undesirable overshoot, which is easier to select in comparison to the set point filter. The controller’s parameters are fixed in such a way that give same robustness level (maximum sensitivity Ms), by adjusting the tuning parameter. A 10% to 15% perturbation in all the parameters of process models is introduced to evaluate the robustness of the proposed tuning method. In the present study, a conical tank system is considered for the applicability of the proposed design method of PI/PID controller. The proposed tuning method is used for designing the PI controller and successfully applied to the transfer function model and process of conical tank. The simulated and experimental results are compared with two other recently published tuning techniques.","PeriodicalId":15707,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Science and Technology Review","volume":"35 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88281551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
