Unfortunately, the spectrum is a scarce resource, which is being underutilised by licensed users while the unlicensed spectrum is overcrowded. Cognitive radio technology has emerged as a promising solution to the underutilization of the spectrum. This study, focuses on minimizing the signal overhead, improving of Quality of Service (QoS) and the scalability of routing protocols to ensure the reliability of the network. Network simulator 2.31 with a cognitive radio network patch was used to simulate the proposed scheme in Linux operating system. The study uses a metaheuristic algorithm called cuckoo search algorithm inspired by nature to establish a stable path with enough resources. From the literature, researchers identified techniques, which can achieve good performance in routing in terms of delay, dropped packets and QoS in ad hoc networks. The simulations depict that the proposed scheme performs better than the existing scheme.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121152575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although not currently realised, coordination of local distributed energy resources (DERs) and a greater degree of demand flexibility through digital aggregation, offer the potential to lower the cost of energy at source and to enable remuneration for consumer participation, addressing the rising costs of energy supply, which impacts strongly on all consumers. Methods are required to manage potential distribution network constraints caused by flexible DERs, as well as for determining the risk to delivery of flexibility from these DERs for aggregators. A heuristic network flexibility dispatch methodology is proposed, which can be used to calculate the probability of constraints, and any required adjustments of flexible agent positions to resolve them, at half hourly resolution. The aggregator can use this methodology to manage their portfolio risk, while a distribution system operator can estimate required flexibility to manage constraints down to low voltage level.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114076985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to address the demand forecasting segment by investigating three commonly used forecasting methods, namely Least squares estimation (LSE), Gaussian process regression, and Artificial neural networks. Forecast models implementing these methods are designed, trained on historical demand data and weather data from 2013 to 2015, and their response for2016 is analyzed. The LSE forecast model yields the most accurate results for the following input parameters: forecasted temperature and ultraviolet A-rays (UVA), time of the day, and the corresponding demand measurements of one and two weeks earlier.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125604718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As HEVs become more complicated electromechanical systems, their good performance and response under the driver decisions, the road conditions and the requirement of optimal operation of the main traction devices, constitute a challenging engineering issue. The design of suitable controllers should satisfy all the aforementioned tasks but without any possibility for abnormal or unstable situations which may be dangerous or unsecure for the car passengers. In this paper, since the HEV system is clearly complex and nonlinear, a rigorous analysis is developed in which the nonlinear model of the complete system is considered. Suitable cascaded-mode controllers are applied on the aforementioned models and the whole system is analyzed in detail by using Lyapunov-based methods. The proposed design approach and analysis provide as simple as possible cascaded mode PI control schemes, with the critical controller gains effectively tuned in regions that guarantee asymptotic system stability. Evaluations via standard route conditions fully verify the theoretical results.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127940172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It effectively suppresses the peaky harmonics by spreading it all around the central frequency in the desired wide frequency band. Thus the EMI spectrum is smoothed and flattened with a reduced EMI noise level. The current paper presents a chaotic Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) technique based on the Logistic map. It is generated digitally through a dsPIC microcontroller. Then, it is applied to a boost converter to reduce the conducted EMI generated within. Looking for accuracy, an electromagnetic (EM) prototype of the boost converter was developed using LTspice in order to analyse the EMI reduction level. Finally, spectrum simulations were carried out. The chaotic PPM was benchmarked to traditional PWM for the boost converter. Simulations show a significant reduction of EMI with a flattened EMI spectrum.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132072238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The studied DC wind systems are based on doubly fed induction generator. Each one includes two voltage source converters, a rotor side converter controlled to ensure Maximum Power Point Tracking via a predictive algorithm, and a stator side converter controlled to ensure equilibrate three-phase voltage in the stator side, also via a predictive algorithm. The cost function used for this pricing mechanism is a piecewise linear approximation of a quadratic function.The motivation for using this mechanism is that the energy transition is expected to result in higher peak loads in electricity consumption as well as in renewable generation, which poses a significant challenge to the distribution grids. To tackle this problem, electricity consumption profiles need to be flattened.Following the literature, quadratic cost functions have proven their ability to achieve such a system optimization. However, their problem is that consumers find the resulting pricing mechanisms too complex and are generally unwilling to participate when offered these prices. In contrast, the social acceptance of simple pricing mechanisms such as currently used in practice is high, but these mechanisms are hardly giving any incentive to reduce peaks in electricity profiles.Based on the feedback of consumers participating in our field test and the criteria defined in the literature, we conclude that the proposed mechanism is socially accepted. Furthermore, a numerical evaluation shows that our proposed mechanism can flatten out peaks on the neighbourhood level, albeit that its convergence is slightly slower than by using the quadratic cost function. These two findings imply that the presented pricing mechanism has the potential to be useful in practice.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130060560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wake effect that the turbines in wind farms produce on each other causes a reduction in wind velocity, thus altering the overall output power. The wake effect should be minimized in order to maximize the output power. Arbitrary layouts could lead to poor effectiveness in the output power. The main objectives of this study are to quantify the power losses due to layouts and to clearly assess and consider the results of the wake effect model. Jensen’s model is used with a fixed number of turbines to demonstrate the importance of the wake effect in wind farming. The direction and wind speed of the selected site are considered when determining the power loss due to turbine layout. This study shows the importance of optimizing the wind farm layout using the wake effect model to obtain maximum output power.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134359259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the study is to reduce electromagnetic interferences (EMI) emitted by a PV inverter. First, a detailed description of theoretical developments is presented. Thereafter, the proposed CUSPWM is implemented and validated on a H5 PV inverter topology using a circuit type software. Moreover, a comparative study between the conventional unipolar SPWM and CUSPWM algorithms is carried out. According to the obtained results, the CUSPWM is advantageous over the standard SPWM control because it provides a significant reduction in the amplitude of both common-mode (CM) current and the CM voltage over a wide frequency band.","PeriodicalId":156687,"journal":{"name":"2020 6th IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCon)","volume":"310 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115912054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
