D2Q9 model is used for simulation of 2D thermal fluid flow. Different thermal cases such as thermal Poisseuille flow, thermal couette flow are studied, along with conduction in metals with or without heat generation source within metal. Results produced from Lattice Boltzmann's method are compared with analytical solutions or with some other CFD technique (Fluent) results. On comparison one can say that Lattice Boltzmann's method is a remarkable tool for simulating and solving computational fluid dynamics problems.","PeriodicalId":155651,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Aerospace Science & Engineering (ICASE)","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124789753","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper a comparative analysis of supervised, knowledge based and object based classification techniques have been carried out to map debris and clean ice of sachen and rupal glaciers. Assessment of glaciers temporal variation plays an important role to identify the rate of retreat and advance over a certain period of time. Sachen and Rupal glaciers lying in astore valley have been used as an input for analysis. The area of debris cover and clean ice derived from the classification used have been visualized and compared with the reference classification. Reference classification, derived from standard classification technique further refined by manual editing to obtain highly accurate results. The results from this classification show that Sachen and Rupal glaciers have lost around 2% and 13% of their glaciated area respectively over the last thirty years.","PeriodicalId":155651,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Aerospace Science & Engineering (ICASE)","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131850748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However another approach that converts the image into its frequency components allows visualization and computations based upon spatial frequency rather than the spatial contingency. This approach yields some useful possibilities along with the apparent difficulties in visualizing the frequency domain. Fourier analysis and wavelet transforms are available in most image processing software allowing to be applied in specified ways e.g. Fourier filtering, wavelet compressions, wavelet resolution merges. In this study the capabilities of important image processing software in this context is discussed along with a few implementations of the techniques to de-stripe data, compress data, merge data, visualize data. The implementation is found to be rather difficult to customize for a particular application and the available options in software are somewhat crudely applicable to only specific problems. The applicability of the techniques is also mostly based on hit and trial method especially in case of Fourier filtering unless the exact nature of the solution is predetermined. To cope for this constraint of pre-defined applicability, the customizability of the wavelets using different kinds of wavelets is assessed and Matlab's customization options are used in this study.","PeriodicalId":155651,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Aerospace Science & Engineering (ICASE)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132449044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The highly coupled natures of lift and propulsion mechanism in space planes limit the use of classical design approach. A paradigm shift in design methodologies is needed. Cognitive-intelligent methods must therefore be employed to evolve Heuristic-Intelligent Design Schemes that do not rely on archival data. These schemes must also be self-starting to avoid tedious recursions - hence inverse design approaches are recommended that can get integrated with heuristic-intelligent methods. A fast and frugal method based on high-fidelity approximate analytical formulation that uses hypersonic aerothermodynamics and energy partition principles must be resolved to evolve design solutions that simultaneously satisfy requirements for highly-integrated configurations as well as mass-model of transatmospheric cruisers. This paper briefly describes one such scheme called HI2D that can be used for designing, optimization and intelligent classification of spaceplane system configurations. The results of this scheme show significant improvement in the geometric and performance solution of baseline configuration.","PeriodicalId":155651,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Aerospace Science & Engineering (ICASE)","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117305870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Impact energy absorbers dissipates maximum amount of energy during an axial impact. Impact of steering wheel with ribs of driver during an accident is an area of prime concern. A patterned steering column is proposed in the present work which turns into inverting tube and absorb good amount of energy during an accident. The inversion process is induced in steering column by embedding sinusoidal patterns over it. This process is numerically investigated by using commercially available non-linear solver LS-DYNA (TM). Different steering column arrangements are studied and force-displacement results are analyzed in this work. A study is performed to investigate and compare energy absorption parameters of conventional and proposed design of steering column. The results show that the energy absorption with proposed sinusoidaly patterned steering column is better than conventional steering column.","PeriodicalId":155651,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Aerospace Science & Engineering (ICASE)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126868171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
