Firstly, the homolytic dissociation energies of the C-H bond in various hydrocarbon molecules were calculated and the C-H active site which was most likely to be attacked by oxygen molecules was obtained. Then, the reaction barrier of oxidation initiation reaction for different gasoline hydrocarbon molecules was compared. Furthermore, frontier orbital theory was used to analyze the chain initiation mechanism. It was found that the symmetry and energy gap of the HOMO orbitals of gasoline hydrocarbon molecules and the LUMO orbitals of oxygen molecule are the decisive factors in the oxidation initiation reaction. The results indicate that the reaction barrier of the olefin is much lower than other hydrocarbons. In order to study the flow paths and predict the recovery time and tracer concentration in the production well, a numerical method using Visual MODFLOW software were applied. For the most pessimistic case (longitudinal dispersivity equals to 383.5 m), the tracer will take more than a year to arrive at the production well, with concentration values outside of the detection limit. The primary objective of this project is to determine an optimal (more economical) network configuration for a case study where large portions of network assets are approaching the end of their life cycle. Therefore, this is the most opportune time to redesign, and implement economically beneficial distribution alternatives such as microgrids and standalone power systems and, to evaluate the economic benefits of a combination of distribution alternatives. The latter alongside multiple microgrids have often been overlooked by past studies. Using Minimum Spanning Trees (MSTs) and clustering algorithms, the ideal location of microgridsand combination of distribution alternatives can be investigated. The results obtained from this study suggest that implementing microgrids and standalone power systems, drastically reduce the total cost of the network when compared to anoverhead transmission MST network. Kim","doi":"10.18178/JOCET.2018.6.2.446","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18178/JOCET.2018.6.2.446","url":null,"abstract":"In this study, we designed a new plate-type heat exchanger system for the previous shell-and-tube evaporator with the same heat rate and additional turbine safety measure. The new evaporator system consists of two plate heat exchangers; one for preheating and the other for subsequent evaporation and superheating. The separate design reduces the liquid level of the evaporator and lowers the risk of liquid inflow into the turbine. For an additional driving stability, a co-current flow configuration was used for the preheater so that a subcooled liquid is introduced to the evaporator instead of a liquid-vapor mixture. A detailed design of the plate heat exchangers was carried out using a commercial software. The new heat exchangers are 75% smaller in volume and 83% smaller in weight. The designed heat exchangers were manufactured and installed in the previous ORC system. The performance was evaluated using an electric heater and a cooling tower as a heat source and heat sink. For the test, the working fluid pump was operated at the design point turbine inlet pressure of 2.13 MPa. Meanwhile, the condensation conditions were not matched to the design point due to the weather effect. Under the analysis condition, the new evaporator system showed an evaporator heat rate of 1662 kW, which is 91% of the design value with a pressure loss of 46 kPa. We calculated a pressure loss of 62.8 kPa for the design point using an equation for simple friction loss.
