Retransmission and buffers as common techniques in data transfer over error prone channel are not adequate for delay sensitive applications such as high quality audio streaming. Our approach is to adjust the audio bit-rate dynamically in order to improve the perceptual quality of audio according to wireless channel quality. In this paper we specifically focus on robust audio streaming over short range ISM-band wireless channels. The major strength of the proposed algorithm is in its ability to match the source and channel coding parameters to given channel conditions, thus providing better quality of audio in home networking.","PeriodicalId":154986,"journal":{"name":"2009 Digest of Technical Papers International Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132408804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It supports RS422 and RS485 formats for PTZ data transmission. In a receiver for an AM video signal, a DC-coupled automatic gain control (AGC) technique is used for a small size and low cost receiver. The fall time of the entire AGC process is approximately 2 seconds, and the AGC gain error varies by as much as ±2.8% for a 10 dB optic power range for the target transmission distance of around 10 to 20 km.","PeriodicalId":154986,"journal":{"name":"2009 Digest of Technical Papers International Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125560952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed algorithm combines a directional predictor with a modified Golumb-Rice (GR) coder to implement basic lossless compression scheme, and adds a rate control scheme by quantizing the directional prediction error. The rate control scheme monitors actual amount of compressed bit-stream and enables the quantizer as the bit rates approaches to target rates. The proposed method shows that it can achieve more than 50% bandwidth reduction without loss of image quality.","PeriodicalId":154986,"journal":{"name":"2009 Digest of Technical Papers International Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126781207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An initial proof-of-concept using an Active Appearance Model (AAM) to perform face recognition which is robust to pose and illumination variations is presented. Our initial results are very encouraging and suggest that the incorporation of a specialized AAM within next generation digital cameras will enable more accurate management and sorting of personal image collections based on the actual persons in the images.","PeriodicalId":154986,"journal":{"name":"2009 Digest of Technical Papers International Conference on Consumer Electronics","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126510216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
