It looks at the way the hands-on approach and other methods were employed in teaching the modules from the early formative stages to the final year of the bachelor’s programme before changes were made to the teaching methods. As methodology, the study employed the use of basic statistical methods in terms of percentages in examining the level of students’ interests in undertaking vernacular architecture related projects for their BSc dissertations between 1985/86 to 2005/06 sessions. The aim was to see if the level of students’ interest in vernacular architecture had been affected by the changes made to the way the modules were taught. Although continuous dissertation records spanning the entire 20 sessions could not be obtained, inference was drawn from existing ones. The results indicated a significant drop in the percentage of students undertaking vernacular architecture related projects for their BSc dissertations after changes in the teaching techniques were effected. This study reveals the significance of hands-on learning in vernacular architecture education and further highlights the importance of module-specific approaches in higher education pedagogy in general. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Vernacular architecture, hands-on approach, pedagogy, students’ interests.

As a result of this, various recommendations had been proffered toward ameliorating the menace unfortunately to no avail. Hence, the essence of this research work is to examine the repositioning of Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) as a panacea to unemployment in Nigeria. Data were sourced through primary and secondary means - use of structured questionnaire, review of necessary literature, direct interview with Stakeholders in Technical and Vocational Education. Purposive sampling method was adopted in which those that matter in TVE in Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti were interviewed. 100 sets of questionnaire were administered. Five (5) each were administered in each academic office within the campus. Result of findings showed that the original intention of Vocational and Technical Education had been distorted, hence the need for a sincere repositioning in the area of adequate funding, infrastructural development, human capital development, educational policy restructuring toward skill acquisition, research development, and the need to reposition the regulatory body (NBTE) among others. \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Education, eradication, Nigeria, repositioning, technical, unemployment, vocational.

The data were collected from 900 students: 300 in lower secondary school, 300 in upper secondary school and 300 in vocational education and training using a face-to-face administered survey questionnaire. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted to determine the nature of the constructs or dimensions quantifying the image of vocational education and students’ loyalty towards VET. Correlation analysis was used to examine the relationships between the independent variables that comprised the image of VET and the dependant variables of students’ loyalty and, finally, regression analysis was used to measure the impact of the image of VET on the students’ loyalty. Three main findings emerged from the study: (1) the image of VET was constructed by seven dimensions (entry requirement, facility and equipment, recognition of qualification, student career and job potential, quality of curriculum, social skills and soft skills); (2) students’ loyalty was constructed by two dimensions (future study choice and earning potential); and (3) students’ loyalty towards VET, namely the rationale underlying their decisions about whether to continue their future studies in higher education or VET, and their perceptions of the earning potential offered by obtaining a qualification in VET, were impacted significantly by their perceptions of the relevance or quality of the VET curriculum to the emerging industrialised and market-led economy of Vietnam, and the level of entry requirements for VET courses, with exception of lower secondary students. \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Influence, vocational education training, image, loyalty, and students.

Attrition refers to exit of teachers without replacement. Survey research design was adopted for the study. Three research questions guided the study and hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The sample of the study was 785. The entire population of principals and technical teachers were studied while science teachers were sampled and selected by stratified random sampling technique. Instrument for data collection was questionnaire which was face validated and Cronbach alpha was used to determine the coefficient of internal consistency which yielded 0.71. Mean was used to answer the research questions while ANOVA was used to test the hypotheses. The study revealed that poor conditions of service, poor salaries and wages contributed to the teachers’ attrition rates which resulted in shortage of the teachers, overloading of existing teachers, and poor performance of students in examinations among others. The strategies for retention include provision of attractive conditions of service, provision of facilities for teaching and learning. It was recommended that Adamawa state government should provide good incentives, enough teaching and learning materials to schools as mechanism for accretion. \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Teaching, attrition, retention, strategies.

Three null hypotheses were generated for the study. The descriptive research design was used for the study. A self-designed questionnaire was used to elicit responses from the respondents. Section A of the instrument dealt with the demographic data of the respondents while section B dealt with the variables such expected occupation remuneration and career prospect. The reliability of the instrument was ensured through the test and re-test reliability method and reliability co-efficient of 0.80 was obtained. Data collected were analyzed using percentages, mean, standard deviation and simple regression. The findings revealed that sex (gender), expected occupation remuneration and career prospects have significant influence on business education students’ choice of secretarial option in colleges of education in the north-west geo-political zone, Nigeria. The study concluded that the low preference for secretarial option of business education at this level is as a result of the students’ inadequate awareness of the relevance and prospects of the skills acquired in secretarial education offered in colleges of education, polytechnics and universities and its lucrativeness in the world of work. This has resulted in the escalating shortage of secretarial teachers in the primary and post primary institutions of learning and secretarial professionals in office occupation respectively. The study recommended among others that the leadership of the department of business education should contact non-governmental organizations to sponsor media-chats where the professionals will properly create awareness for the students on the relevance, prospects and lucrativeness of secretarial education in tertiary institutions. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Sex, age, occupation remuneration, career prospect and secretarial education.

For convenience of data collection, research questions were formulated. The survey questionnaire was developed with 15 items and used to question technical education administrators, technical education principals/vice principals and technical teachers in TVET institutions who constituted the sample. A total of 10 TVET institutions were selected randomly and purposefully to acquire the data. The instruments were distributed among 170 TVET teachers. A total of 138 instruments were returned and analyzed using Statistical Analysis Software (SAS). Descriptive statistics, including frequencies, WA and percentages, were used to analyze the data. The research findings revealed that some of the major causes of TVET teachers leaving the teaching profession for other jobs were lack of appreciation by the Government for job well done, better condition of service in the private sectors and inadequate equipment and working tools for projects in TVET institutions. Based on the findings, the study recommends: to provide job satisfaction, arrange adequate instructional materials, equipment and working tools, enhance the social statuses of the TVET teachers, develop curriculum by emphasizing hands-on practice rather than theory, solve the problem of electricity. Finally, the welfare of TVET teachers should be taken utterly, their salaries, allowances, promotions etc. should be promptly attended to. Also, improve admiration by the State and Local Government of Katsina State and the general public to stimulate the interest of students in TVET. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Exodus of technical teachers, teaching, TVET institutions, Nigeria.

The vision consists of a set of objectives and programmes designed to launch the nation into the league of the 20 most developed economies of the world by the year 2020. A large quantum of professionals and skilled workers, especially in the building sector has been identified by several studies as critical for this aim to be realized. The current statistics which shows abysmally low number of craftsmen in the sector, however, calls for a review of existing mechanism put in place to provide the required skills. It is against this background this paper seeks to examine the current skill development efforts vis-a-vis the desired situations with a view to determining their capability to deliver the expected result. Data were sourced through literature search, institutional records and structured questionnaire administered on 500 randomly selected master craftsmen in Ibadan. Results show decline in the number of building apprentices and low enrolment of students in building related skills at the technical colleges and vocational centres of Nigerian tertiary institutions. The paper holds that for the nation to achieve its vision, drastic measures needed to be put in place. It concludes by highlighting some of these strategies. \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Apprentice, building, craftsmen, technical education, technical and vocational skills.
