This paper was aimed at finding out the readiness of graduates from these two universities to teach cutting out of garments, through making pattern or cutting freehand, upon graduation. All final year students who had offered clothing as part of their programme during the 2013/2014 academic year were used for the study. A total number of 28 and 60 participants from UCC and UEW respectively were employed for the study. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for the analysis of the data collected. The data obtained were mainly described with the help of frequencies and percentages. The results of the study indicated that most of the respondents entered the universities directly from the SHS and did not have any freehand cutting skills prior to entering the university. Their skills in pattern making were also limited. On confidence in cutting out, patternmaking was higher than freehand cutting so was their confidence in teaching the two skills upon graduation. The differences between clothing and textiles major and food and nutrition major in terms of confidence in teaching both skills were about the same. It is recommended that a full 3-credit course in freehand cutting be introduced at the university level. More attention should also be paid to methods of cutting out at the SHS level. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Cutting out, confidence, teaching, teachers in training.

A total of 132 business educators from universities and colleges of education in Edo and Delta States participated in this study. Survey design was employed as the data collection method for this research. A four point scaled questionnaire was used for the data collection. The instrument attained a Cronbach alpha value of 0.85. the data were analyzed using mean and standard deviations calculations, while three hypotheses were tested using t-test statistic. The results show that the current position of business education is inadequate in terms of resources and without the capacity to equip students with the requisite attributes that would inspire them to start and operate their own business and become self-reliant in post oil-boom economy. It further showed that adequate optimization of resources would help to reposition business education for post oil-boom economy. There was no significant difference between the mean ratings of business educators in universities and colleges of education on the current position of business education; no significant difference between the mean ratings of business educators in Edo and Delta States on the need to reposition business education for post oil-boom economy; and no significant difference between mean ratings of male and female business educators on the possibilities of repositioning business education for post oil-boom economy. The opinion of the teachers regarding availability of these e-learning opportunities raises concern in teaching circles. It could be that teachers appear not worried about the availability of these opportunities. Against this background, it becomes necessary to determine the opinion of teachers on the availability of e-learning opportunities for effective TVET programme in tertiary institutions in South east Nigeria. To achieve this, three research questions and one null hypothesis were raised. The study adopted a descriptive research survey using a sample of 98 TVET lecturers from Enugu State South. Instrument for data collection was validated by three experts and reliability established using Cronbach alpha statistics which yielded a coefficient index value of 0.71 and was adjudged as high enough. It was found out that in the teachers’ opinion, e-learning opportunities for effective TVET programme were not available, and that this opinion was not dependent on experience. In the oil seeds and sugar industries, organisations lament as regards the quality and quantity of experts available in the local market. This paper analyses the availability of TEVET skills in the two industries from the perspective of employers in response to the industrial complaints. The study adopts the mixed-methods approach and uses semi-structured interviews, questionnaires and document analysis as tools for collecting data. The results indicate great disparities in the availability of TEVET skills against the demand from the industries. While critical skills is absent in the two industries, there is also need to promote multi-skilling at the artisan and technician levels to enable graduates to perform multiple-related functions once they are employed. The shortfall in the availability of skills in the two sectors has resulted in human resource shortfalls which are affecting production processes. The study suggests the facilitation of academia-industry linkages to promote harmonious working relationships which would ensure that curricula are informed by industrial needs. \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Technical, entrepreneurial, vocational education and training (TEVET) skills, agriculture sector, sugar industry, oilseeds industry, Malawi.

To this end, cross-sectional survey research design was adopted. The study was conducted in seven government TVET institutions selected through simple random sampling techniques. From these institutions, 122 participants were selected through proportionate, simple random and purposive sampling techniques. Questionnaire and interview were employed to collect data from teachers and leaders respectively. Both descriptive and inferential statistics, including mean, standard deviation and independent sample t-test were used to analyze the quantitative data. The data gathered through interviews were analyzed qualitatively using narration. The study found that the five transformational leadership models were being practiced low or below average in the TVET institutions. But, when the models were independently considered, the variable enabling others to act and model the way were rated relatively high whereas the remaining three leadership practices, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process and encouraging the heart were rated low by the respondents. The result shows that majority of the trainers in the TVETIs were not satisfied with the leaders’ engagement in the five leadership practice of Kouzes and Posner’s transformational leadership models. Leaders’ failure to effectively lead change and innovation, lack of professional support for TVETI leaders and their incapability to use various approaches in securing and utilizing resources were the major problems hindered effective implementation of change in the institutions. It is recommended that the Oromia TVET commission should plan and invest resources in the development of leadership in the TVETIs of the region. PBL models are constructivist in nature, hence they promote cognitive development and active learning which in turn enhances performance. Therefore, the study compared the performance of students’ learning of woodwork through PBL and those learning through the traditional methods. A pre-test – post-test control group experimental design was adopted and involved an intervention, the PBL approach, implemented on the experimental group whilst the control group learnt through the traditional approach. A class of 62 students participated in the study. The class was divided into two groups, with each group comprising 31 students to form the experimental and control group. Data for the study was collected using achievement tests and questionnaires. An independent samples t-test showed that there was no significant difference in the pre-test mean scores between the experimental group (problem-based approach) and the control group (traditional approach), before an intervention was implemented. The post-test results revealed a significant difference in the performance of the students from the two groups. The study found PBL to be an effective approach, and it is recommended for the teaching of woodwork and other technology courses. \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Problem-based learning, traditional approach, woodwork, technology studies, constructivism, technical teacher training.

The study involved a review of literature from both Zambia and other countries that have vocationalized their secondary education systems. The analysis has shown that the implementation of the vocational track in Zambia’s secondary schools is likely to be difficult. While this reform is meant to equip students with practical economic skills, evidence from the surveyed literature does not build a strong case for its implementation —partly due to its huge cost. The study ends by arguing for a possible reversal of the policy until such a time when the country has adequate resources to implement it. It further urges the government to consider pursuing a partial-vocationalization policy, whereby a few vocational subjects are taught within the existing academic track and made compulsory to all students. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 Key words: Secondary education, vocationalization policy, vocational skills, youth unemployment.

Studies show that teachers are ill prepared to engage learners practically, and motivate them towards agricultural careers. Constructively, aligned teaching that matches learning outcomes, teaching methods and assessments has gained currency in pedagogical change. This study examines the pedagogical methods used for secondary school agriculture in Uganda. Data were collected in a cross-sectional survey from 80 agriculture teachers and 57 administrators from 60 secondary schools, randomly drawn from 25 districts in Uganda, and analyzed with descriptive statistics. Results show that the teaching and learning approaches are teacher-centered and examination oriented. The current focus on national examinations is unable to engage learners in a meaningful way. The study analyse the skills gaps in the sector to inform the development and review processes of technical and vocational education programmes in the country to help balance the demand and supply of skills equilibrium. Currently, research indicates a mismatch between the range of programmes in training institutions and needs of the industry due to weak linkages. The study used interviews, questionnaire and document analysis to investigate the skills situation. While most of the required skills are readily available on the local market, the results reveal a scarcity of expertise in certain critical areas within the beverages, agro-processing, plastics and packaging as well as assembly sectors. There are also quality and quantity shortfalls affecting the supply of technical and vocational skills. The depth of course content is low in fields such as automobile engineering (designing and assembling). The results further indicated that the industry is lacking multi-skilled technicians capable of performing multiple functions within their areas of expertise.
