Can the expansion of world trade be compatible with maintaining the sustainability of both man and the earth? This paper searches for a practical solution from the viewpoint of international standardization. First, it is necessary to combine the WTO binding rules with voluntary standards in order to reduce social unrest. Second, if international standardization acts as an assessor and offers a common measure of risk, it will enlarge the freedom of choice by heterogeneous consumers. And third, the process of standardization should be governed by three fundamental principles: tripartite voluntary involvement, consensus-based decision making, and knowledge-based judgment.","PeriodicalId":154016,"journal":{"name":"Hitotsubashi journal of commerce and management","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132789846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study analyzes such demand information risk and uses microeconomic theory to derive a management strategy. There are two main conclusions. Firstly, whether each firm adopts the demand information collection depends on the cost incurred in collecting its information. Furthermore, only one firm will collect the demand information if the gap in the demand information collection costs between both firms is considerable. Secondly, given that only the Chinese firm collects demand information, information sharing is enabled solely by a transaction involving information and technology, rather than information and money. We prove that each firm would be able to utilize the other's advantage if the variance of demand uncertainty were appropriate, not too small or large. Furthermore, we confirm that the possibility to realize such transaction increases when the expected Chinese market size and the technology gap between the foreign and Chinese firmsare considerable.","PeriodicalId":154016,"journal":{"name":"Hitotsubashi journal of commerce and management","volume":"191 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121470249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, it presents a structural analysis of the emerging processes of social entrepreneurship in Japan, and then shows how social enterprises establish organizational strategies and promote social innovation. In analyzing the emergence of social entrepreneurship, we have reviewed its relationship with the community, government, civil society organizations and businesses by incorporating Network Theory and Cluster Theory. We have not focused on individual characteristics, but on the relationship between social entrepreneurship and the stakeholders in the community. Social innovation can be developed and promoted by understanding and supporting the customers, the community and the other stakeholders. Social businesses can be built and can flourish in the marketplace only by obtaining support from the people in the community. This research presents a conceptual framework. Empirical study is underdeveloped here yet, we have begun to investigate the emerging process of social innovation clusters in the San Francisco Bay area in the USA. This parent company puzzle is also observed in Japan. The objective of this paper is to investigate whether this puzzle represents mispricing by the stock market, and, if so, to investigate why the observed mispricing persisted for a long period of time. The results are inconsistent with market efficiency. Because of market frictions, there is no guarantee that distortions in stock prices will always be quickly corrected by arbitrage transactions. Surprisingly, even highly liquid stocks listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) can deviate substantially from fundamental values for a long period of time. We suggest these large and persistent price distortions could be attributable to the lack of active arbitrage activity in Japan due to market frictions.","PeriodicalId":154016,"journal":{"name":"Hitotsubashi journal of commerce and management","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115404569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It argues that corporate governance is a newly introduced concept but has become increasingly important in Vietnam, especially by the introduction of the new company legislation in 2005. 1. The Historical Background of Vietnamese Company Law and Corporate Governance Historical influences have the potential to leave their mark on corporate governance practices and the development of a corporate governance system. 2 Before considering the existing Vietnamese corporate governance system, it is necessary to understand the history of Vietnamese company law and its corporate governance law regimes. The historical development of company law and corporate governance law regimes in Vietnam can be divided into three stages: the period of French colonization, the period 1945-1990, and, since 1990 up to the present. By a brief examination of the historical development of company law and corporate governance regimes in Vietnam, this section of the paper comes to three fundamental conclusions. First, the history of Vietnamese company law is dominated by legal borrowings. Second, the contemporary corporate governance law regime is partly shaped by the past. Last, politics were 1 As to the development of company law in Vietnam, see Bui Xuan Hai, Vietnamese Company Law: The Development and Corporate Governance Issues, Bond Law Review, Australia, (2006) Vol. 18(1); 2 Sir Adrian Cadbury, 'Foreword' in Thomas Clarke (ed), Theories of Corporate Governance: the Philosophical Foundations of Corporate Governance (2004) ix; Lucian Arye Bebchuk and Mark J. We find that concurrent bank lending and investing via venture capital subsidiaries benefits firms by increasing credit availability, particularly by increasing the availability of long-term loans, but not by lowering interest rates. We also find that banks that jointly deliver lending and investment via VC subsidiaries build close ties with firms. These results suggest that strong bank-firm relationships, which benefit firms by availability of credit, can be built through scope of relationships.","PeriodicalId":154016,"journal":{"name":"Hitotsubashi journal of commerce and management","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123881677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, such evolution of international standardization, caused by its structural adaptation to changes in its environment as well as the origin and history of standardization and standards are reviewed initially. Subsequently, ‘standard studies’ is advocated as a new academic discipline to comprehensively analyze the problems of standardization and standards from a broader perspective, transcending predominantly technological concerns. Finally, the need to invest in standards research and education is highlighted.","PeriodicalId":154016,"journal":{"name":"Hitotsubashi journal of commerce and management","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128363733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
