Culture-specific symptoms can affect treatment or assessment processes, therefore it is considered crucial to determine these differences in positive symptoms, especially hallucinations. In this study, we aim to systematically examine and understand these cultural differences in hallucinations within the context of schizophrenia. Using the related keywords in different databases, we identified 465 articles. The systematic review included 21 articles published between 1975 and 2016 that met the eligibility criteria. After systematically reviewing the articles, it appears that auditory hallucinations were generally the same across cultures, but visual hallucinations were more common in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Caribbean than in Europe and America. In some cultures, religious and cultural beliefs were influential in terms of the content of hallucinations. While the order of frequency types of hallucinations seen in schizophrenia across cultures seems to be relatively similar, the frequency of hallucination types may differ across cultures suggesting the pathofacilitative effects can partly play. Furthermore, the pathoplastic effect and social kindling hypotheses may explain the content differences by identifying that culture influences the expression of symptoms at the content level. Although studies have limitations, some of which need to be read carefully since they may not fully represent cultural samples, it was expected that this study would contribute to a better understanding of how culture affects hallucinations as well as highlight the treatment and assessment options that might be useful for clinicians.","PeriodicalId":15388,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy and Research","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75654706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the three-factor structure of the scale was tested by conducting Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) with a sample of 274 parents with kids aged between 9-17. The criterion-related validity of the PPFQ was tested by checking Pearson correlation coefficients. The structure of the PPFQ was confirmed by testing Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with a sample of 353 parents with kids 9-17. Following the confirmation of the three-factor structure of the scale, reliability coefficients were tested for the whole scale and its subscales via test-retest reliability and Cronbach’s alpha coefficients. The results of the EFA and CFA revealed that the Turkish form of the PPFQ was also a three-factor scale as it was in the original version. Additionally, concerning the criterion validity, PPFQ was found to be significantly linked to related measures. Finally, the reliability scores were also satisfactory. These findings were discussed in line with the relevant literature.","PeriodicalId":15388,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy and Research","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79223823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Son zamanlarda yapilan araştirmalar, bu iki kişilik özelliğinin farkli psikopatolojilerin tedavisinde etkin rol oynadiğini da belirtmektedir. Ancak, hem mükemmeliyetçiliğin hem de nörotisizmin majör depresyon bozukluğu belirtilerinin ortaya çikmasindaki etkisi pek çok bilimsel araştirmada incelenmiş olmasina rağmen, alanyazinda bu iki kişilik özelliğinin etkileşiminin depresif belirtiler üzerindeki etkisini inceleyen bir araştirmaya rastlanmamiştir. Bu nedenle bu çalişmada, nörotisizm ile depresif belirtiler arasindaki ilişkide mükemmeliyetçiliğin düzenleyici rolü incelenmiştir. Araştirmanin örneklemini DSM-5’e göre yalnizca majör depresyon bozukluğu tanisi almiş 90 katilimci oluşturmaktadir. Katilimcilarin tanilarina uzman psikiyatrist tanisi/ön tanisina takiben yapilan DSM-5 Bozukluklari Için Yapilandirilmiş Klinik Görüşme doğrultusunda yapilan değerlendirme ile karar verilmiştir. Araştirmada veri toplama araçlari olarak, Beş Faktör Kişilik Envanteri Kisa Form-Duygusal Tutarsizlik Alt Boyutu, Frost Çok Boyutlu Mükemmeliyetçilik Ölçeği ve Beck Depresyon Envanteri kullanilmiştir. Mükemmeliyetçiliğin düzenleyici rolünü incelemek amaciyla SPSS PROCESS Macro uzantisi araciliğiyla düzenleyici değişken analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sonuçlara göre; nörotisizm ile depresif belirtiler arasindaki ilişkide mükemmeliyetçiliğin düzenleyici rolü vardir. Yani, nörotisizm ve mükemmeliyetçilik kişilik özelliklerinin etkileşimi bireylerin depresiflik düzeylerini etkilemekte, hem nörotisizm hem de mükemmeliyetçilik düzeyi artiş gösterdiğinde bireylerin depresiflik düzeyleri daha da artmaktadir. Bu bulgular, depresif belirtilerin azalmasinda nörotisizm ve mükemmeliyetçilik kişilik özelliklerini birlikte ele almanin önemine vurguda bulunmaktadir.","PeriodicalId":15388,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy and Research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79745543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In line with this effort a theory of language and cognition, which is fairly comprehensive and has empirical support, has been developed based on a functional contextualistic view in the last century. This theory, called Relational Frame Theory (RFT), considers language as a verbal behavior and argues that the basis of human language and cognition is the behavior known as Arbitrarily Applicable Relational Responding (AARR). This behavior includes responding based on arbitrary relations independent of the non-arbitrary (physical) relations between stimuli, established by social whim and that do not make sense outside the social context in which they are located. AARR is characterized by three core properties such as mutual entailment, combinatorial mutual entailment and transformation of stimulus functions, and this behavior itself needs to be learned. This review aims to explain RFT, a very complex theory, in a comprehensive and understandable way. The historical process that brought about RFT will be mentioned, the basic principles and concepts of it will be explained, and the contributions of this theory to the understanding of complex human behaviors and its approach to psychopathology will be discussed.","PeriodicalId":15388,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy and Research","volume":"71 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72988327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
