According to certain research, music boosts intellectual capacity due to its physiological qualities. Numerous studies have demonstrated that music teaching benefits pupils' academic achievement. Hence, the purpose of this study was to determine whether music education utilising a particular kind of music improved the concentration and mathematics scores of a group of students. Thirty-six students (n=36) from the Physical Education Department of Raja Melewar Teachers Education Institute participated in this study. Participants were randomly assigned to one of three intervention groups: control group; pop music group; or classical music group. The researchers used music in their mathematical activity. ANOVA analysis found that music had no statistically significant effect on math exam scores. There is a chance that the views of students toward background music during testing settings could make for an interesting study. Additionally, the researchers used a small sample size, which may have contributed to the indefinitive results. This suggests that additional research should be conducted with a bigger sample size.","PeriodicalId":153855,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Intelek","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125119818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of online sales has played a vital role in increasing the number of courier-service providers across the region. It is interesting to explore the aspects that affect the success of courier firms, which can have a greater impact on the profitability of the companies. As a result, the primary objective of this study is set to examine the elements that affect the companies’ profitability in the logistics industry over an eight-year period (2014-2020). There are six publicly traded companies in Malaysia’s logistics industry that have been included in the sample. Considering that logistics is a critical component of the companies’ competitiveness and profitability and that logistics is one of the most profitable businesses, this study has used the Random Effects Model to analyse profitability. The variables involved in this investigation are firm size, liquidity, leverage, inflation rate, and unemployment rate. The obtained results have shown that firm size, liquidity, and leverage are the positive and significant variables, while inflation is positive but not significant towards profitability. However, the unemployment factor is negative but significant towards the profitability of the selected Malaysian courier companies. Given that an efficient planning system and managing and controlling the logistics system as the significant determinants of the profitable business operations, the findings provide guidance for boosting profitability and enhancing the performance of the logistics organisations.","PeriodicalId":153855,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Intelek","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124205381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, to remain competitive, hotels are encouraged to implement strategic planning. The primary goal of this study is to propose a theoretical framework that integrates the role of Competitive Intelligence (CI) in the relationship between organizational culture and hotel performance. Therefore, an in-depth study on CI practices in the hotel industry is needed. However, a lot of previous research has been conducted on CI in other industries, especially in the SME industry. Nonetheless, to the best of the researcher's knowledge, little is known about the role of Competitive Intelligence (CI) practices in the relationship between Organizational Culture (OC) and hotel performance in Malaysia. Therefore, the use of Resource-Based Theory and Knowledge-Based theory and their justifications among studies on CI is highlighted. A three-phased process to create this framework begins with a detailed explanation of the literature related to OC as a factor influencing hotel performance. Then, the framework inserts CI practices as a strategy to improve hotel performance. Finally, CI as a mediator between the relationship of OC and hotel performance is explained. This quantitative study uses a questionnaire survey of the top-level management of 240 Four and Five-star hotels obtained from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia and will be analyzed using PLS-SEM. This study adds to the growing body of CI literature and contributes to industry practitioners to better understand the factor and strategies to improve hotel performance.","PeriodicalId":153855,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Intelek","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123511462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A questionnaire consisting of five sections A to E has been distributed to collect the needed information: Section A, statements regarding job satisfaction; Section B, compensation practice; Section C, leadership style; and Section D, demographic background of respondents. The population for this research is 300 people among private-sector employees from Koperasi Kakitangan Petronas Berhad (KOPETRO), and out of that amount, 160 respondents have successfully participated. The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 26 has been used to generate the results of this study. The reliability test for all independent variables has tested good to excellent internal consistency as the leadership style is the highest variable with the result of 0.954, followed by job satisfaction with the result of 0.861, and compensation practice, which carries the result of 0.722. In the meantime, the Pearson’s correlation has been used to investigate the relationship between job satisfaction, compensation practice, and leadership style with the dependent variable. The test has revealed that all the independent variables have a significant relationship with employee- turnover intention, where the significant test result (p ≤ 0.05). In conclusion, the researchers have found out that all three hypotheses are accepted, which means that, from Hypothesis One until Hypothesis Three, it has been discovered that job satisfaction, compensation practice and leadership style have a significant relationship with employee-turnover intention. Lastly, the researchers hope that all the employers and top management of the private sector can gain benefits from this study.","PeriodicalId":153855,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Intelek","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125007414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The educational delivery of ODL provides learners vast opportunities to deal with the learning process, that includes time, place as well as pace of learning. Assisted by technology, ODL has tremendously improved the educational system in many ways. This erupts the possibility of implementing andragogical approach through ODL. Hence, this study, which is guided by Knowles’s theory of andragogy, is qualitative research investigating the issue of learning process via andragogical approaches of seven adult learners in UiTM Perlis, Malaysia. The study also seeks whether students’ attitudes vary differently among themselves throughout ODL so that their performance during class could be evaluated. Two theories are being utilized in this study – (i) the Sport Website Acceptance Model (SWAM) and (ii) the Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT). Customer-perceived values which are derived from the SWAM consist of four components including accessibility, flexibility, interactivity, and reliability, while motivation factors include informativeness gratification and entertainment gratification. This study utilized a self-administered questionnaire. A total of 530 sports tourists (315 males and 215 females) participated in three major sporting events involved in this study. Respondents were selected by using a probability sampling technique. The results of Pearson correlation analyses show that there was a significant relationship between customer-perceived value and the propensity to use the websites. The results indicate only 14.8 per cent of the total variance of the intention to use the websites was explained by customer-perceived value, entertainment gratification, informativeness gratification, the combination of customer-perceived value and entertainment gratification as well as the combination of customer-perceived value and informativeness gratification. The research findings would be practical and useful for sports tourism organizations in developing a distinctive sports tourism website on strategies to market their products and/or services effectively.","PeriodicalId":153855,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Intelek","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123453429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Students' academic performance changes dramatically when they move from face-to-face classes to full implementation of online distance learning (ODL). The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that affect students' academic performance during the COVID-19 pandemic using Multiple Linear Regression (MLR). The research was carried out at UiTM Perlis Branch, and 54 bachelor's degree students from four faculties were invited to take part. During the analysis, gender, hours students spent in online learning, hours students spent on preparation before class, number of subjects taken, credit hours, hometown areas and internet connection, act as independent variables whereas CGPA as the dependent variable, were examined. This study was carried out using SPSS software and Excel. The result shows that the hometown areas and hours students spent preparing before class contributed significantly to the model while others did not. It is shown that students who live in rural areas did much better in academic performance than students who live in cities, and the more students spend on preparing themselves before class, the lower is their CGPA. Other factors tend to be insignificant and it might be because of the limited time in collecting data, small sample size and unequally-sized groups. For future research, it is recommended to have more time in collecting data and add more sample sizes by extending it to diploma students to gain more accurate results.","PeriodicalId":153855,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Intelek","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129768942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Malaysia National Tourism Policy’s 2020-2030 concurs that one of the tactical strategies to increase visitor’s economy in the rural areas is through ‘digitalization’. Parallel to this, community-based tourism’s (CBT) homestay programs have long been a government’s endeavor in assisting rural tourism’s economics. In heading towards smart tourism, CBT must be consistent with the progress. However, current investigation on CBT’s readiness to accept smart tourism in Malaysia is still infancy. This is a proposed study with objectives to explore the concept of smart CBT within Malaysian context, to investigate the readiness of CBT in Malaysia to adopt smart tourism, and to identify the strategies for Malaysia National Tourism Policy. The study will employ qualitative approach where semi-structured interview will be conducted with industry experts associated with tourism and homestays from different regions in Malaysia. The expected findings will establish the current setting of smart tourism in the CBT context, which will derive input for Malaysia National Tourism Policy.","PeriodicalId":153855,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Intelek","volume":"310 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123479930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
