Specifically, the study examines the impact of fiscal policy measures on macroeconomic variable of growth - the gross domestic product. In order to achieve our objectives, we employed the econometric techniques of ordinary least squares and co-integration/error correction mechanism to analyze our data with a scope of 1970 to 2019. Our results and findings show that fiscal policy measures had serious implication on economic growth. This is evidenced by the coefficient of determination of the model. The R2 value is consistently high in the model. Also, government expenditure and revenue were significant in the model. Based on findings, the study recommends that government should improve her role in the economic management by stepping up her capital expenditure and reducing recurrent expenditure in order to boost infrastructural development and create the enabling environment for increased private investment in the economy.","PeriodicalId":153790,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Economics and Finance","volume":"292 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132756332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, using cointegrating models viz; FMOLS, DOLS, CCR, and ARDL models, we scrutinize short-run as well as long-run impact of natural disaster, economic development, technological innovation, and human capital on income inequality in India. Results show that the natural disasters and economic development worsen income inequality in both short- and long-run. Further, India’s human capital also aggravates income inequality in the short run. In contrast, India’s technological innovation and human capital in the long run improve income distribution significantly. Finally, the policy suggestions are mentioned in the conclusion section. Our results are consistent and robust with alternative modelling.","PeriodicalId":153790,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Economics and Finance","volume":"236 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133440463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using samples of 668 upgrade recommendations and 495 downgrade recommendations, this study employs event study methodology to examine price performance by predicting abnormal returns using the market model. The findings indicate that significant positive stock price reactions occur following upgrade recommendations and significant negative stock price reactions occur following downgrade recommendations over a short-term and up to six-month period. Further analysis reveals no statistically significant difference in performance between analysts who are participants of the Capital Market Development Fund – Bursa Research Scheme (CBRS) and those who are not. This finding implies that, despite the significant market reaction to both upgrade and downgrade recommendations, CBRS’s financial analysts do not provide better analysis than those of non-CBRS analysts.","PeriodicalId":153790,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Economics and Finance","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124792325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to achieve this objective, both descriptive statistics and the Panel Least Square (PLS) estimation methods were employed to analyze the data. The result of the analysis reveals that INFL has a negative relationship with EXCR but it does impact significantly on it at 5 percent level; INTR has negative and an insignificant impact on EXCR at 5 percent level; CABL has negative relationship with EXCR and it also impacts significantly on it at 5 percent level; TMTR has negative relationship with EXCR and it also impact significantly on it at 5 percent level. The study therefore concludes that inflation rate (INFL), interest rate (INTR), current account balance (CABL) and terms of trade (TMTR) depreciates exchange rate (EXCR) in African sub-Sahara countries specifically Anglophone West African countries. Based on the findings of the research work, the following are recommended: The government should encourage export diversification especially the non-oil sector exports. This can be achieved through value addition to both the agriculture and manufacturing sub-sectors output. There should be stable exchange rate management policy that avoids over-valuation or excessive depreciation of their currencies and ensures international competitiveness of tradable goods, relative price stability as well as avoiding inconsistent fiscal policies.","PeriodicalId":153790,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Economics and Finance","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125193279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates the impact of bank-specific and macroeconomic factors on bank profitability from 2005 to 2017. Unbalanced panel data of eleven domestic and six foreign Islamic banks have been employed to achieve the study's objective. The findings show that different factors influence the profitability of domestic Islamic banks and foreign Islamic banks. While internal factors significantly affect the profitability of domestic Islamic banks, the profitability of the foreign Islamic banks is more stable and less affected by internal and external factors. The findings provide insights to domestic Islamic banks to improve their operations, profitability, and competitiveness. These banks' better operational efficiency and performance will consequently improve the overall Islamic banking industry.","PeriodicalId":153790,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Economics and Finance","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129675255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
