The proposed vision system will maximize production efficiency and improve the strenuous and labor-intensive conditions of assembly lines. The normalized correlation function uses multi-resolution pyramid images to quickly find candidates. To discriminate these candidates, the output scores of the normalized correlation function are classified and the higher order autocorrelation functions are employed. The results from field tests prove that the performance is fully capable in providing a basis for a practical vision system. In the future, by integrating other surface texture patterns, the proposed system can expand the combined real-time vision system for the factory automation field.","PeriodicalId":153591,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Institute of Image Electronics Engineers of Japan","volume":"132 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130833063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objects inside the volume data are enclosed by various shapes in order to delimit the range for volume rendering, thus avoiding unnecessary calculation. This paper presents an approach for accelerating pure software-based volume rendering by using object boundary projection and parallel processing techniques. Object boundary projection is a variant of the bounding volume method and works by extracting the tight object boundary information and projecting it onto the image space plane in order to obtain the effective range, both in image and object space for efficient volume rendering. We optimized the original object boundary projection algorithm and added other facilities such as macro-cell projection and parallel processing. An efficient load-balancing scheme for image-space data distribution which takes into consideration the boundary information is also presented and these were evaluated on a distributed-memory parallel architecture machine. We obtained some encouraging results which show the effectiveness of this acceleration approach by diminishing volume rendering time without sacrificing the rendered image quality.","PeriodicalId":153591,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Institute of Image Electronics Engineers of Japan","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123427592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It captures gradual shot transitions such as dissolves and fades as well as abrupt shot transitions such as cuts. At the first step, it computes a distance between video intervals to find an isolated interval. Then, at the second step, it computes a distance between frames to specify the exact location of a shot boundary. Its effectiveness is evaluated in terms of recall and precision.","PeriodicalId":153591,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Institute of Image Electronics Engineers of Japan","volume":"132 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116547957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The foot is covered with mesh net, and is recorded as images by eight digital still cameras. The coordinates of mesh intersections are extracted by the developed filtering process, and are used here for the matching points of stereophonic measurement. The typical three-dimensional measurement system consists of the laser device and the high-speed image-processing device. These devices are expensive, and general users can't get the whole of three-dimensional shape easily. We adopted mesh net so that the user could get the whole of three-dimensional shape easily. The user can decide the necessary number of camera and the position easily by referring to the indicated stereophonic area in advance. The measurement point (mesh intersections) can be constructed as the structured data because it is a lattice structure. The structured data is useful for analysis of human foot shape.","PeriodicalId":153591,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Institute of Image Electronics Engineers of Japan","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131919822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
