However, the total fertility of the country showed a sharp decline thereafter, down to 4. If there were no migration after 1995, the population of the Republic of Korea would reach a maximum in 2035 at 53.5 million. In order to keep the size of the total population constant at that level thereafter, it would be necessary to have 1.5 million net immigrants between 2035 and 2050, or an average of 100,000 per year during that period. By 2050, out of a total population of 53.5 million, 1.7 million or 3.2 per cent, would be immigrants and their descendants.","PeriodicalId":152659,"journal":{"name":"IMF Staff Country Reports","volume":"322 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139297581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
