The case of small ion sources with <tex>$mathrm{B}^{s}cong 0.5$</tex> to 1 T, where wavelength and plasma chamber radius are comparable, is studied with full wave equations, assuming a collision rate <tex>$v$</tex> and a plasma of given density. Wave initially launched in the TE mode from a waveguide (TE<inf>11</inf> for a circular waveguide), aligned with the axis <tex>$z$</tex> of a cylindrical plasma chamber and of <tex>$mathrm{B}^{s}$</tex>, are partially converted to <tex>$E_{z}$</tex> waves; use of azimuthal symmetry to consider only the <tex>$m=1$</tex> component is discussed. Large reflections are sometimes observed as a function of ratio of plasma angular frequency <tex>$omega_{p}(z)$</tex> and <tex>$omega$</tex>, possibly due to model simplification (density constant in <tex>$x$</tex> and <tex>$y$</tex>). Extension to off-axis waveguides (perhaps rectangular or coaxial) is mentioned.","PeriodicalId":152047,"journal":{"name":"2021 XXXIVth General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126621387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The imaging covering width suitable for the field of view (FOV) of the imaging seeker, together with the scanning velocity design is discussed in detail. And the residence time of the targets corresponding to different target positions are solved by using a numerical method. Comparisons are made to test three different scanning strategies. Simulation results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":152047,"journal":{"name":"2021 XXXIVth General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126963309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect is better represented and verified in 3D simulations (very time consuming) as shown here, even if some simplified 1D and 2D models may help understanding. Boundary conditions at large radius are discussed. Moreover, the sensitivity to important parameters (levitated weight vs frequency and power, sizes of crucible, sample conductivity, radius of sample to skin depth ratio) are demonstrated in a schematized 3D geometry, easily parametrized. Finally complete 3D simulation of a realistic design (adequate for clean alloy melting) are also reported.","PeriodicalId":152047,"journal":{"name":"2021 XXXIVth General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122153549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dispersive moving media is shown to give rise to unidirectional propagation in certain frequency ranges. Lossy moving media is shown to be maximally lossy for contra-directional propagation, at the velocity where the real part of the refractive index crosses zero. This includes new frequency allocations for the International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) services, upgrades to aeronautical mobile services and enhanced regulatory provisions for the maritime mobile services. The proposed changes to the radio spectrum regulations under these agenda items could directly impact several frequency bands allocated to the Radio Astronomy Service (RAS). Sharing and compatibility studies during the current cycle would be required to ensure proper protection for RAS as a passive service in these bands.","PeriodicalId":152047,"journal":{"name":"2021 XXXIVth General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126663954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Testing on phantoms represents one of the key steps in the process of realization of several devices and, for this reason, the interest towards the realization of more and more realistic phantoms, not only from the dielectric point of view but also from the mechanical one, is growing. In this work, tissue-mimicking mixtures, based on the use of low-cost, safe and easy-to-handle materials (water, oil, gelatin and dishwashing liquid), produced for the realization of breast phantoms have been tested under different measurement conditions. Stress-strain curves are reported and a first comparison with Young's moduli in the literature of gelatin-based phantoms produced for the same anatomical district is presented. This work represents a first step in the realization of increasingly realistic tissue-mimicking mixtures, which, among other things, may pave the way for new combined imaging modalities.","PeriodicalId":152047,"journal":{"name":"2021 XXXIVth General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS)","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126817892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The finite element method shows a speed-up of about 10 for medium-size problems, whereas the acceleration rises up to 50 when the finite difference method is used. The described codes are then used to compute the specific absorption rate of a magnetic resonance imaging radiofrequency birdcage coil in a voxel-based anatomical human model.","PeriodicalId":152047,"journal":{"name":"2021 XXXIVth General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127028864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A quarter wavelength resonator realized using microstrip line technology acts as a quasi static near field sensor. The resonant frequency of the sensor varies with the dielectric properties of the test sample in contact. A mathematical model based on finite element method is developed to determine the permittivity of dielectric test samples. The proposed sensor is designed to operate in 2.42 GHz ISM band. As a proof of concept, a prototype is fabricated on FR4 substrate of 1.6 mm thickness. The performance of the fabricated prototype is validated by measuring the permittivity of some commercially available substrates and vegetable oil samples. The measurement results showed a good agreement with the data available in the literature. The single port architecture of the planar sensor facilitates direct immersion in liquid samples. Moreover, this technique does not pose any limitations on thickness of solid test samples. The proposed submersible sensor is simple, compact, low cost and easy to fabricate which promotes its wide spread usage for microwave material characterization.","PeriodicalId":152047,"journal":{"name":"2021 XXXIVth General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123360376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the mode-matching technique (MMT) was applied for exact calculation of the analytical model. Moreover, this method has the advantage of eliminating errors caused by jig removal because it is wholly unnecessary to remove the measurement system when calibration and measurement are performed. The complex permittivity of certain types of high-loss liquid materials was actually measured in the 3 GHz band as a fundamental study. The effectiveness of the presented method of measuring a liquid phantom with high permittivity and high loss was also confirmed by comparing the results of measurement with those obtained using the TM010 circular cavity resonator method.","PeriodicalId":152047,"journal":{"name":"2021 XXXIVth General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114617508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the proposed work, the design is initially implemented to use SIW and combined with three layers of the substrate such as top, bottom, and middle. One side without a cladding conductor and the other side just a conductor are implemented for the top and bottom layers. Simultaneously, the middle layer is used as air instead of the lossy dielectric to limit the loss. In order to improve matching, two shorting pins are placed on two sides of the middle layer. It can be found that the shorting pin's diameter and position plays a crucial role in providing broadband impedance bandwidth and low overall losses. Laboratory prototype of the structure is experimentally measured to validate the claim and the theoretical results. This transition finds suitable application for 5G communications.","PeriodicalId":152047,"journal":{"name":"2021 XXXIVth General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116468590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
