Tai","doi":"10.1109/ICSNC.2010.60","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICSNC.2010.60","url":null,"abstract":"Today's platforms offer ubiquitous network connectivity through one or more communication interfaces and while the communication devices consume a small portion of the overall platform power the impact of network connectivity and individual packet processing on the overall platform energy consumption is significant, due to the non-deterministic characteristics of network traffic. In this paper, we show that significant energy is unnecessarily wasted at the platform level while it is idle and connected to one or more networks, especially unlicensed networks like WiFi or Ethernet, because the system is constantly processing what we term \"background/noise\" traffic. These are management, control or broadcast packets arriving at a rate high enough that prevents the system from taking full advantage of the platform-level power management states. We quantify the negative impact of network connectivity on platform energy-efficiency and provide novel techniques to mitigate this impact. Web services are drawing attention as a solution to such a demand. Another approach to developing a program in a short time is STAR (SofTware Architecture using Rule-based language). STAR uses a rule-based language called ESTR (Enhanced State Transition Rule) as a service program description language. ESTR is based on state transitions, and its specification is simple. In this paper, with the aim of applying STAR to the creation of Web services, we propose a platform for creating Web services using ESTR. The wireless monitoring system enables different types of vehicular units to communicate with each other. Also, the units are able to contact and to be contacted by a central dispatch entity. Client or web-hosted applications, hosted on central servers, in the cloud, can be accessed by the end user both for receiving real-time data from the monitored units and sending out the commands. It is possible to hide data in PHY and MAC layers with steganographic techniques. Recently several modifications are done to this technique either to improve performance or to lower the complexity. The implementation efficient reliability ratio based weighted bit-flipping is developed targeting decreasing processing time of the decoding process. In this paper we are targeting improving performance of recent developed algorithm named low complex implementation efficient reliability ratio based weighted bit-flipping by adding a bootstrap step to the decoding technique which leads to increase in reliability of received bits then number of decoded bits will be increased leading to improve in performance. This mobile network is a shared radio medium which utilizes a point-to-multipoint method, where one base station (BS) can be connected to many mobile stations (MS). That is to say that a mobile IPTV viewer can join a specific multicast group over mobile WiMAX access network, while others, at the same time, are able to receive the same program channel, even though they do not belong to the same multicast group. This, however, is different from the traditional Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) version, used for IPTV services, in network layer which does not allow immediate program channel sharing. This is because the Connection ID (CID) is required before the Multicast Broadcast Service (MBS) can transmit its service flows in mobile WiMAX. Therefore, in this case, viewers always need to perform two processes before they are able to view the program channels, i.e. performing the IGMP join/leave at network layer and obtaining the CID at Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. Such networks exhibit different characteristics with respect to bandwidth, latency, power, and their charge model as well. In this paper, we present extensive numerical simulations of a novel vertical handover mechanism, which we proposed recently. We compare our mechanism with well known mechanisms: one based on the RSS (received signal strength) and the other one based on the traditional AHP (Analytic Hierarchichal Process) method. Our scheme considers that a mobile node carries more than one traffic class; it also integrates an MIH (Media Independent Handover) QoS Model, the AHP method, and cost functions to a fuzzy MADM (Multiple Attribute Decision Making) handover decision algorithm. We show that our proposed scheme overperforms the other two schemes. In this paper, an integrated testbed consisted of wireless sensor network, server station and robot system is proposed. Our main contribution is in the design and development of the server and actuator tier software modules and the communication protocols between them. We provide new applications where actuators are part of the network and perform actions based on the information gathered by sensors. We describe some test scenarios for the potential use of the system. We envision that WSANs will be an integral part of the systems such as battlefield surveillance, nuclear, biological or chemical attack detection, home automation, and environmental monitoring. Our platform offers reusability, modularity and simplicity to the user.
