Pleomorphic adenoma of lip is a rare presentation, only 10 % of pleomorphic adenoma occurs in minor salivary gland. The present report describes about the case of 55 year old male patient with asymptomatic oval shaped, solitary and lobulated swelling in upper lip. Complete excision of the lesion was done. The Hispathological examination re- vealed Pleomorphic adenoma. The patient was followed up for 6 months. No evidence of recurrence was seen.","PeriodicalId":151838,"journal":{"name":"Hellenic Archives of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery","volume":"189 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115801889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It predominantly occurs on the gingival region, and rarely involves extra gingival sites of the oral cavity. A thorough knowledge of the lesion is essential for clinicopathological correlation and accurate diagnosis. Here, we present rare occurrence of pyogenic granuloma in the dorsal surface of anterior two thirds of the tongue and present a brief review of the same pathology.","PeriodicalId":151838,"journal":{"name":"Hellenic Archives of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114523740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main aim of this study is to present the best treatment modality based on the behaviour of hemangiomas in paediatric population and their pattern of progression or regression with age and in response to intralesional steroids and sclerosing agents administered, along with the rate of recurrence in cases where surgical intervention was done. Materials and methods: A total of 25 patients were in- cluded in this study based on inclusion and exclusion cri- teria. The injections (Kenacort /Kenalog, as intralesional injection) were administered at monthly intervals and patients were reviewed. Based on the response elicited to this minimally invasive procedure the patients were divided into the following three groups: A-Responders, B-incomplete responders, C-Non-responders. Surgical intervention was taken up in incomplete responders and Non responders with significant aesthetic and functional compromise. Results: Of all lesions only 16% of the cases responded to non-surgical treatment methods, and were further sub- categorised into: Group A (Responders) which comprised of 2 (8%) of the cases, Group B (Incomplete responders) n= 2(8%) and Group C (Non-Responders) n=21 [84%. All patients belonging to group B and C were treated surgically and fairly good prognosis was documented, as amongst 8% (n=2) + 84% (n=21), 87% (n=20) of the patients were completely cured and re- currence due to the presence of residual tumour was noted in only 13% (n=3) of the cases. Conclusion: As the psychological impact of the congeni- tal deformity on patients is generally more detrimental than it is measurable, except for the post-surgical or traumatic deformities in the treatment of medium size tumours the surgical excision seems to be a worthwhile procedure.","PeriodicalId":151838,"journal":{"name":"Hellenic Archives of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130031138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ankyloglos- sia or tongue tie is a condition that affects the range of movement of the tongue due to an abnormally short, thick lingual frenulum. The congenital anomaly can also hinder growth of the orofacial structures of the child. Due to its complications, Ankyloglossia demands proper and early surgical correction. This article describes a case of ankyloglossia that was surgically corrected by frenec- tomy, post which the patient was restored with normal functions.","PeriodicalId":151838,"journal":{"name":"Hellenic Archives of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery","volume":"171 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116121471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is defined as an abnormal epithelialized communication between nasal and oral cavity and its etiology may be congenital or acquired. Oronasal fistula results in clinical features from the upper respiratory tract and a generalized degrada- tion of the patient’s quality of life. Although a variety of surgical treatment methods has been documented, there are often postsurgical complications with the re- currence of the fistula being the most common. In this case report, the case of a patient with an oronasal fistula located at the labial area of the maxillary who was surgi- cally treated is described and literature review follows.","PeriodicalId":151838,"journal":{"name":"Hellenic Archives of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122176542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Jeevanandam","doi":"10.54936/haoms223165182","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.54936/haoms223165182","url":null,"abstract":"Background: This study is done to compare and correlate the factors that would affect the prevalence, intensity, nature of bacteremia during pre-operative, intra-operative and aftermath trans-alveolar extraction of impacted mandibular third molar. Aim: The aim of this study is to study the prevalence, nature, and intensity of bacteremia among the patients with no antibiotics administered prior to trans-alveolar extraction, with and with-out periapical and periodontal infections. Materials and methods: A prospective clinical study and microbiological assessment on blood culture was conducted at Department of oral and maxillo-facial surgery in 50 patients who underwent surgical removal of im- pacted mandibular third molar teeth. Immunocompro- mised patients, patients having temperature greater than 1000 F, bleeding disorders, patients on recent antibiotic medications were excluded from the study. Results: On comparison of the pre-operative, intra- operative and post-operative intensity values, the intensity of bacteremia was significantly greater at the intra operative and post-extraction time than at the pre-extraction time. Conclusion: We conclude that the incidence, prevalence and the intensity of bacteremia during trans-alveolar ex- traction is more common in older patients and periodon- titis is more prevalent in patients with poor oral hygiene which in turn contributes to the intensity of bacteremia associated with trans-alveolar extraction of third molar. From this study, it is found that, the occurrence of bacteremia is increased with duration of the surgery, as in- cidence of bacteremia was high when the surgery lasted more than 35 minutes in general.","PeriodicalId":151838,"journal":{"name":"Hellenic Archives of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129850154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
