The proposal work was to build a simulator with features of an infant of 0-6 months of age who present maxillofacial malformation using size and contexture of a real baby. For this purpose, two techniques for reconstruction of the head of the model were described, and then from this, the molds for the rotomoulding manufacture were designed. One palate was a unilateral and the second one was a bilateral cleft. For manufacturing of the devices, a plasticized PVC formulation was proposed. This paper describes the methodology used for the design and manufacture of the components of dental training devices and their respective molds.","PeriodicalId":151015,"journal":{"name":"2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131758836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each group consisted on multiecho signals acquired from 5 specimens. The first group of signals was acquired from liver of 5 healthy rats, selected as a control group; the second and third groups were acquired from liver of rats with experimental hepatitis induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) at 5 and 24 hours before liver extraction respectively. The fundamental frequencies associated with the initial regular structures [2, 3] of the tissue were obtained and changes on the Power Spectral Densities were estimated from the three different groups. A displacement of the fundamental frequency estimation was encountered between control and other two groups with induced hepatitis, related probably with inflammation or tissue damage.","PeriodicalId":151015,"journal":{"name":"2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127750837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Kinect device captures the position of the user's right hand, filters its resulting data and detects its movement using Haar wavelets. This data is then sent to the Kuka KR6 controller and it moves using forward kinematics. A series of tests were implemented to evaluate the accuracy of the slave system position compared to the user's right hand position using the Pearson correlation coefficient method. It resulted in a very strong correlation between them.","PeriodicalId":151015,"journal":{"name":"2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127832439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the research already made on ultrasonic therapy devices, it is well known that an explanation of the real behavior of the radiation patterns in commercial physiotherapy applicators hardly has been investigated. Thus, it is of interest to make new extensive evaluations of these aspects to facilitate proposals of thermal treatments over delimitated areas with enough precision and patient safety. This work presents a comparative experimental evaluation of the acoustic patterns produced by two ultrasonic therapy applicators, of the same series and model in a commercial company. Some anomalous unexpected radiations observed in the near zones of both devices have been analyzed, showing unhomogeneities of very distinct magnitude in each one; their possible origins are analyzed. An authors' modeling of the complex radiation in such therapeutic applicators is improved to numerically simulate these radiated CW fields. Numerical results approach in part experimental radiated patterns, which would explain a possible origin of the spurious radiations and their influence on the effectively measured ultrasonic fields.","PeriodicalId":151015,"journal":{"name":"2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132409309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the case of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), it is important to have elements that respond in a punctual and timely way to the patient demands given he/she is in a high vulnerability state. The technological resources in ICU are essential for the patient to receive the needed care in life support and monitoring. In this work a first approach to quality assessment in the ICU through the implementation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on the use and management of medical technology was developed. Six KPIs were defined covering aspects of Quality Service, Reliability, Credibility, Competitiveness, Security, Accessibility, and Communication, and were applied to three different hospital ICUs. The results showed which elements should be prioritized and led to the development of practical measures to improve the medical technology's performance. It also identified areas of opportunity to provide intensive care clinical areas with better control and quality standards, implementing procedures for review and verification of information.","PeriodicalId":151015,"journal":{"name":"2013 Pan American Health Care Exchanges (PAHCE)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132506335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
