The content of curriculum may be organised through learning areas and subjects, as well as through activities or tasks. This study focuses on the needs analysis of a curriculum review of English language courses offered by Akademi Pengajian Bahasa, UiTM, with consideration to Education 5.0, Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The objectives of the curriculum review and the needs assessment are to validate the curriculum with the contemporary developments in the world. Twenty-four stakeholders from various faculties and industries, as well as representatives of UiTM alumni were invited to a two-day pre-workshop on how the future of language curriculum should be. Their opinions and feedback on the current language skills and courses were recorded and analysed. Thus, common themes were identified. Amongst the suggestions given were to increase opportunities to speak, to build character and image, and to bridge courses based on new media needs. This also includes the need to focus on the ability to discuss and express ideas clearly in group discussions. The implications of this exercise serve as the guideline of a framework for relevant and future language skills and courses, which will fulfil the needs of the 21st century communication skillsets.","PeriodicalId":150910,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Education and Learning","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128901395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Kenya, no conclusive research has been done on the preference of learning styles by university full-time and part-time students undertaking various degree programmes. This study, therefore, examined the preferred learning styles among full time and part time university students at Egerton University, Njoro Campus. The study utilizes the causalcomparative research design where 238 full-time and part-time students were selected through stratified random sampling from the population of 2nd, 3rd and 4th-year Agricultural Education and Extension students within Njoro campus. Purposive sampling was used to select six interview participants who were the class representatives. Data were collected by use of questionnaires which were administered to both full-time and part-time students and interviews were conducted among six class representatives Data analysis was done by use of descriptive and inferential statistics. Results showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the preference for auditory learning style between the full-time and part-time students, with the full time exhibiting a greater preference for auditory learning style than their counterparts. The full-time student further perceived installation of sound systems, frequent discussion of topical issues, and being given opportunities to ask questions as some of the aspects that were important to their learning. It was therefore concluded that the absence of auditory learning style in university education affects students effective learning especially the full-time ones. The university management in Kenya should, therefore, consider installing sound systems in lecture halls especially those used by full-time students in order to enhance their learning experience. Lecturers should also encourage classroom discussions and give opportunities for students to ask questions during lectures.","PeriodicalId":150910,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Education and Learning","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123720873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It aims to prepare students to compete for positions in graduate and professional schools; thus, increasing the competency and diversity of the minority workforce. Building Scholars consists of carefully chosen activities developed by both TAMIU and LC to achieve the objectives of the program initiatives. For TAMIU, the goal is to engage and retain Hispanic students by implementing well-designed activities through freshman seminars, undergraduate research across disciplines, faculty support, travel, faculty development activities, and a summer research seminar. Faculty support, in terms of travel and equipment, is provided to improve student engagement in their programs of study and furtherance of higher education. The majority of program activities at TAMIU are intertwined with the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) to build, integrate, and sustain undergraduate research practices and programs, with an emphasis on applied critical thinking. Students are involved in hands-on mentored activities with faculty in order to identify the various structured outlets where their critical thinking and research skills can be sharpened.","PeriodicalId":150910,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Education and Learning","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124640408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study examined planning as an administrative task performance by heads in the rural and urban second cycle schools in Ghana. The study sought to examine whether there is a significant difference in the level of planning by heads in the rural and urban second cycle schools in Ghana. A descriptive survey was employed as the study design. The study was targeted to 519 public second cycle schools in Ghana. Using a stratified and census sampling technique, 1085 assistant heads, heads of department and teachers were selected from 155 public second cycle schools to participated in the study. A questionnaire was used as the main instrument where respondents were required to show their level of agreement to some statements. The overall opinion of respondents revealed that planning, as administrative task performance of headteachers, was to some extent is carried out well. An independent t-test analysis revealed a statistically significant difference (p<.001) in the level of planning by heads in the rural and urban second cycle schools in Ghana. Based on the findings, was recommended that second cycle schools in the rural areas in Ghana should be given equal advantages in terms of good classroom blocks, adequate learning materials, well-equipped science and language laboratories.","PeriodicalId":150910,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Education and Learning","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115986506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
