With the increasing population, construction and parallel use of motor vehicles, many problems arise. The problems caused by traffic, especially air and noise pollution, adversely affect both human health and urban life. In order to reduce these urban problems and prevent new problems, bicycle transportation can be considered as the most important solution of urban transportation problems by seeking a healthy, safe, economical, environmentally friendly and accessible type of transportation. In this study, the importance of bicycle paths which are evaluated within the scope of open spaces and components of physical life quality of cities, is emphasized. The research was carried out in the urban development area of Bursa Nilüfer district. In the study, the design criteria of the bicycle paths were examined and the intersection points, road widths, slopes, physical conditions (surface, drainage, lighting), aesthetic properties and problems of usage limitations were evaluated within the scope of the research area. According to the findings obtained from the criteria evaluated within the scope of the research, the biggest problem is the lack of continuity / connection of bicycle paths. This problem, which is also important in terms of security, should be planned by supporting with signs and directions. In the research area, the bicycle transport network consists of short and cut routes, and if all the routes are connected, it is possible to talk about the bicycle transport network throughout the city.","PeriodicalId":150549,"journal":{"name":"1st Istanbul International Geography Congress Proceedings Book","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128937819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, this study prioritizes the analysis of students’ acquired facility and skills related to the field of maps in the 2018 social studies curriculum. The secondary analysis involves interpreting the usage of maps in social studies textbooks of Grades 5, 6, and 7 from a cartographic perspective. The focus here is on spatial perception skills, map literacy skills, and location analysis skills that are defined suitable of the map and that lead to the definition of text–map correlations. A qualitative research method was used, and the findings were obtained through document analysis. Data were evaluated through descriptive analysis, and a purposeful sample was used. The study investigated the social studies curriculum (2018); the Grade 5 social studies textbook (Anadolu Yayıncılık 2018); and the Grade 6 and Grade 7 social studies textbooks published by the Ministry of National Education. It was found that there were four gains related to map at Grades 5, 6, and 7. As a result some maps are inadequate which the legend of the pre-Islamic Arabian Peninsula maps to be inaccurate in the Grade 6 textbook. Another situation is that a migration map of Turkey in 2017 is convenient for map reading. It is suggested social textbook maps that have references are essential.","PeriodicalId":150549,"journal":{"name":"1st Istanbul International Geography Congress Proceedings Book","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121329610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research focuses on people from Artvin who migrated to Bursa. The cultural activities of residents of Artvin who live in Bursa observed and interviews were conducted. According to 2018 TÜİK data, Bursa has the highest population of people living outside Artvin who continue to be registered in the province of Artvin. The population of Artvin is concentrated in certain districts in the province, including Yıldırım, Gürsu, Osmangazi, and Kestel. Having lived rural lives with close interaction with nature, this population actively practices its rural knowledge and experience in areas such as housing, food production, environmental use, and social relations. Therefore, using this traditional knowledge, migrants bring to the table the human-made products that they have developed in harmony with the environment. Behavior’s performed with residential construction knowledge constitute an important example for cultural ecology. These elements include housing construction, land ownership and quality, traces of highland culture, food culture, social activities, and the use of local words. In the context of maintaining harmony and belonging in the city, migrants from Artvin have sought to preserve social relations and cultural relations by keeping alive their social organizations.","PeriodicalId":150549,"journal":{"name":"1st Istanbul International Geography Congress Proceedings Book","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115771332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
