Celada, Lidia Maraña","doi":"10.1080/10454438.2021.1914266","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1080/10454438.2021.1914266","url":null,"abstract":"ABSTRACT A 90-day experiment was conducted with four-month-old juvenile tench to test seven diets differing in replacement level of fishmeal (FM) by soy protein concentrate (SPC): 0% (control diet), 45%, 55%, 65%, 75%, 85% or 100% corresponding to 0, 312, 383, 451.6, 521.7, 590 or 695 g SPC kg−1 diet, respectively. Methionine and arginine supplementation was included from substitution levels of 55% and above to reach similar values to those provided by the control diet. Survival rate was close to 100%. The highest total length (TL) and weight (W) were reached with the control diet without significant differences from 45% to 55% diets. Significant lower TL, specific growth rate and daily increment in total length were obtained with 65% or higher replacement levels. Five species of probiotics were isolated from the commercial products, which were B. subtilis, B. megaterium, B. velezensis, B. licheniformis, and B. amyloliquefaciens. The inhibitory function of the isolated probiotics on the growth of an acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND)-causing V. parahaemolyticus (VPAHPND), nonpathogenic V. parahaemolyticus, and Vibrio spp. isolated from shrimp farming samples were examined by disc diffusion and bacteriocin-like inhibitory substance test. Disc diffusion and bacteriocin-like inhibitory substance screening indicated that only B. velezensis could inhibit all Vibrio spp. Inhibitory efficiency of B. velezensis was further evaluated in the liquid media using the co-culture technique. With the assistance of a growth curve-monitoring system, we could examine multiple co-culture factors that affected the probiotic efficiency in the same experiment. The results demonstrated that the inhibitory efficiency of B. velezensis was increased with its concentration.
