Marbled eels are regarded as a specialty seafood species with several therapeutic and nutritive benefits. This study used High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) to identify various biochemical and nutritional ingredients in A. marmorata collected in its natural habitat. There was 16 different amino acids analysed in the muscle, skin, and mucus of marbled eels at the rates of 14.01%, 5.48%, and 9.96%, respectively. Twenty-four fatty acids were found in muscle and skin, while only nine fatty acids were detected in the mucus with proportions of 11.93, 25.91, and 0.37 g/100 g, respectively. Six different vitamins (A, B3, B5, D3, C, E) are found in the muscle of the eel; five types of vitamins (A, B3, B5, D3, E) were detected in the skin; and three vitamins (B3, B5, C) are found in mucus. Using HPLC analysis has shown remarkable effectiveness in micronutrient analysis in nutritional research. The results will increase our knowledge of the nutritive benefits of the A. marmorata and point the way toward the creation of functional foods and cosmetics with natural ingredients that may be used on people.","PeriodicalId":15030,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Applied Animal Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48664239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Holstein Friesian crossbred (n = 19 cows) and Deoni lactating cows (n = 14 cows) were monitored for body (i.e. eye) and USST prior to milking using a forward looking infra-red (FLIR) camera. It was observed that the mean body and USST of both crossbred and Deoni cows did not differ significantly. The body and USST of both the breeds were significantly higher by 0.9–1.0°C during evening than morning milking. There was no difference in body and USST between days and between udder quarters. Similarly, stage of lactation, milk yield and parity did not show any influence over body and USST. The body and USST were higher in summer (1.1°C) than in spring and winter seasons. Deoni cows had 1.0°C lesser body and USST than crossbred cows. It is concluded that baseline thermographic information on body and USST would be useful in developing breed-specific thermographic signature for individual animal.","PeriodicalId":15030,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Applied Animal Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45727657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although TPT1 was reported to have accelerating effects on the lipid deposition of mouse hepatocytes, and the activation roles in phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase (PI3K/AKT) pathway, its role in the differentiation of ovine stromal vascular fractions (SVFs) and their underlying mechanisms have not been addressed. Therefore, the objective of this study was to explore whether TPT1 participates in the adipogenic differentiation regulation of ovine SVFs and the underlying mechanisms. The results from this study revealed that TPT1 was abundant in the tail fat of sheep and the protein was located in the nucleus of C3H10T1/2 cell line and ovine SVFs. Moreover, TPT1 expression was up-regulated during the adipogenic differentiation of SVFs. The overexpression of TPT1 dramatically accelerated the adipogenic differentiation of SVFs, accompanied by the up-regulation of adipogenic marker genes, while TPT1 inhibition had opposite effects. TPT1 also had a negative effect on forkhead box O1 (FOXO1). The PI3K/AKT pathway was involved in the promotion of adipogenesis induced by overexpressing TPT1. We concluded that TPT1 promotes the adipogenic differentiation of ovine SVFs through PI3K/AKT-dependent pathway and attenuates the expression of FOXO1 in ovine SVFs.","PeriodicalId":15030,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Applied Animal Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46737602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A cross-sectional study was conducted in six administrative regions of The Gambia to respond to three questions: (i) what are the livestock farmers’ perceived occurrences and causes of climate variability? (ii) what are the perceived impacts of climate variability on livestock farming? (iii) what factors influence livestock farmers’ knowledge and perception of the causes and impact of climate variability? A total of 440 livestock farmers comprising 351 (80%) males and 89 (20%) females were interviewed and 6 Focus Group Discussions were held. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's chi-squares test and Binary logistic regression. Livestock farmers are aware of the causes and effects of climate variability on their productivity. Climate variability caused cattle farmers to have production issues, and as a result, this investigation also reveals the impact on their productivity. Finally, the result also shows that the explanatory variables (age and region of residence) were the main factors significantly influencing livestock farmers’ perception of climate variability. There is need for the government of The Gambia to address the challenges faced by livestock farmers due to climate variability.","PeriodicalId":15030,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Applied Animal Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46925748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Five diets (370 g/kg crude protein and 14.23 MJ / kg of digestible energy) containing levels of L-threonine (16.0, 22.0, 28.0, 34.0, 40.0 g threonine/kg protein) were fed to quadruplicate groups of fishes for 10 weeks. The analysed variables were influenced by the threonine levels. Fish fed with diet containing 16.0 g threonine/kg of CP showed lower growth and body deposition of nutrients. In addition to unsatisfactory performance, the fish subjected to lower levels of threonine presented higher hepatosomatic index scores and changes in the concentrations of some plasmatic metabolites. To determine the ideal level of threonine in the diet, the weight gain, specific growth rate and feed conversion ratio were subjected to broken-line and quadratic regression. The results showed indicate that a diet containing inadequate levels of threonine causes insufficient growth. Dietary threonine requirement of R. quelen was estimated between 24.5 and 32.5 g threonine/ kg of crude dietary protein, corresponding to 9.1 and 12.0 g/ kg threonine in the diet for the initial growth of silver catfish.","PeriodicalId":15030,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Applied Animal Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47847374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 432 female broilers (1-day-old) with similar BW were selected and randomly allotted to 4 groups with 6 replicated of 18 birds each. These four groups were fed on a 0, 250, 500, or 1000 mg/kg resveratrol supplemented basic diet for 51 days. The results demonstrated that birds in the resveratrol treated groups exhibited higher final BW and ADG, and lower F/G ratio. The resveratrol treatments also resulted a higher breast and drumstick muscle rates, relative jejunum weight, relative jejunum length, and lower abdominal fat rate. The serum biochemical parameters were positively affected by each resveratrol treatment, including TP, GLB, TC, LDL, and ALP. The L*45min and shear force values of both breast and drumstick muscle tissues were significantly reduced in the resveratrol treatments, whilst resveratrol treatments induced higher a*45min in breast muscle tissue and lower b*45min in drumstick muscle tissue compared the basic diet treatment. In addition, dietary resveratrol supplementation significant reduced the MDA content and elevated the activity of anti-oxidative enzymes in serum and liver tissue, as well as up-regulated the mRNA expression of Nrf2 gene and antioxidant genes (HO-1, GPX, and CAT) in drumstick muscle tissues. Collectively, this study determined that dietary supplementation with 250 and 500 mg/kg resveratrol improved the growth performances, carcass characters, and meat quality of Chinese indigenous broiler chickens.","PeriodicalId":15030,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Applied Animal Research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"59622221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over recent years, significant progress has been made in the detection, measurement and application of biomarkers in both companion and farm animal medicine. This review article summarizes the commonly used biomarkers in dromedary camels that include the cardiac, bone, inflammation, transport, stress and pulmonary biomarkers. The review also focuses on the use of these compounds in camel medicine either in diseased or physiological states; and finally summarizes and reviews, to the possible extent, examples of the types of biomarkers used in dromedary camels. Understanding the use of these biomarkers in camels has expanded significantly over recent years, and, with the insights provided by ongoing research, it is likely that these compounds will be increasingly used in the future in the diagnosis and prognosis of camel diseases.","PeriodicalId":15030,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Applied Animal Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43866305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Exactly 2250-day-old male broilers were distributed in 90 floor pens and assigned to 1 of 9 treatments (10 replicates). A positive control sufficient in phosphorus (PC-P), a PC sufficient in metabolizable energy (PC-E), and a negative control (NC) with less phosphorus, calcium, and metabolizable energy were formulated. Manufactured using the NC, six additional treatments contained 500 or 1500 FTU/kg of phytase combined with 0, 0.1, or 0.2 g/kg of CAG. Broiler performance was determined on days 14, 28, and 42. Nutrient digestibility and processing yield was determined on days 42 and 43, respectively. Day 1–42 FCR was reduced and fillet yield increased when broilers consumed a 0.2 g/kg CAG diet instead of 0.1 g/kg (P < 0.05). Treatments supplemented with phytase alone or combined with CAG had a 42-day BW comparable to the PC-E and were heavier than the NC except for broilers fed 1500 FTU/kg of phytase and 0.1 g/kg of CAG (P < 0.05).
