The focus is on single-conductor cables, but these fundamentals can be applied to multiple-conductor cables as well. Two basic components in a low-voltage cable, the conductor and the electrical insulation (dielectric), are discussed. Different types of conductors and insulation are described. Other components that are added to handle higher electrical stresses as voltage increases are also discussed, to help the engineer specify the type of components required for specific applications.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":149524,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of 1993 Forty-Fifth Annual Conference of Electrical Engineering Problems in the Rubber and Plastics Industries","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122085249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, PWM inverters should be applied with special consideration for low-voltage induction motor operation. The power supplied to the motor by a PWM inverter has some adverse effects, which are described. These effects include increased heating, high-peak voltages, and increased audible noise. The impact these effects have on the given application are discussed. This work is for process control engineers, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineers that are applying PWM inverter-fed low voltage induction motors, not those designing them.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":149524,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of 1993 Forty-Fifth Annual Conference of Electrical Engineering Problems in the Rubber and Plastics Industries","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-04-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120966936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A knowledge of the expected results (a template) allows asking the pertinent question: given the data taken, and given knowledge of the template, what is the probability that the expected object (or event) is present? Two examples of the usefulness of this approach are presented. The first is a test for the presence of wires in tire belting (based on the knowledge of how single wire behaves under the given test). The instrumentation is an eddy current bridge. The second example is testing for a known type of defect in a steel bar. The magnetic field surrounding the bar, when direct current is passed through the bar, is used as the tested quantity; the template is the magnetic field normal to the bar surface, computed by the finite element method (FEM). In both cases, the expected location of the object is identified, along with related information on the tested object. In both cases, the Bayesian approach focuses attention on the question of interest: what is the probability that the test hypothesis is true?.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":149524,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of 1993 Forty-Fifth Annual Conference of Electrical Engineering Problems in the Rubber and Plastics Industries","volume":"603 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-04-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116073473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
