The data collection was realized through semi structured interviews with 25 professionals in a national level, 11 females and 14 males, with an average age of 42 years (SD=7.05). The discourses emerged from the thematic analysis, underline the sensationalism proliferation that characterizes these narratives, making aware to its copycat potential in intimate partner violence perpetrators, as well as inhibits victims seeking help and skew the IPF social construction. \u0000Based on the participants representations, media coverage for IPF recommendations were listed, highlighting the importance in defining accuracy as the foundation of media coverage. Also underscored the urge in training and specialize journalists in gender violence as well as recommended a positive approach, emphasizing cases of women who survived IPF attempts and women who overcame their victimization processes. \u0000The representations shared by the participants converge with the national report from the Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence that monitories the Istanbul Convention execution, pointing out the necessity in standardizing knowledge and procedures regarding to gender violence, acknowledging that media coverage varies according to beliefs, training, and personal interests of journalists (GREVIO, 2019). Therefore, it is recognized the urgency in promoting an ethically compromised journalism, adding to an effective regulation and a critical, conscient and reflexive media consumption – critical media literacy.","PeriodicalId":149155,"journal":{"name":"Observatorio (OBS*)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128624849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

His relevance for this field has begun to be defended recently, an argumentative line with which this paper is also identified. The article has two interrelated aims. First, present the main dimensions of Norbert Elias’ analysis on human communication. Second, critically examine several current studies that, in communication studies, take this author as a theoretical reference for their research. To achieve the first aim, it is analysed Theory of the Symbol, a book originally published in 1989, where Elias collects his reflections about the communicational and symbolic dimensions of human being. To achieve the second goal, the paper is focused on the concept of Communicative Figuration, recently developed according to an eliasian perspective, and currently applied in several studies devoted to the topic of mediatization.","PeriodicalId":149155,"journal":{"name":"Observatorio (OBS*)","volume":"7 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124294080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The worsening situation is evidenced, inter alia, by reports and studies carried out by international organisations such as Freedom House and Reporters Without Borders. An analysis of the regulations introduced and the actions of government elites consisting in interfering in media markets and public media activities reveals many similarities and common elements of media policy. These changes are so severe and so far, removed from European standards and practices in countries which are so-called full democracies that one has to wonder whether the actions of the Hungarian and Polish authorities are not a sign of another transformation, which this time involves a move from a democratic system towards a quasi-authoritarian one. The present study is based on the political-regulatory perspective; it applies selected criteria of comparative analysis according to the concept of Hallin and Mancini, taking into account additional factors, indicated as necessary by researchers dealing with the media systems of Central and Eastern European countries.","PeriodicalId":149155,"journal":{"name":"Observatorio (OBS*)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130065201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A two-tier study on the perspectives of international medical informatics researchers on a barrier-free communication of science","authors":"Esther Greussing, Stefanie Kuballa, Monika Taddicken, M. The traditional publication model, however, does not provide an inclusive flow of communication but rather favours researchers affiliated with resource-strong institutions, oftentimes located in the Global North. Hence, there are increased efforts to establish an alternative, open access (OA) publication model. Since such a model can only be successful if scientists themselves support and use it, this paper presents a two-tier study examining the factors that might shape scientists’ decision (not) to choose an OA option for disseminating their own work. Based on (semi-)standardized surveys of scientific organizations and individual researchers in the field of biomedical and health informatics, it provides an overview of individual and institutional frame conditions that influence the dissemination and reception of scientific knowledge. In order to account for regional differences, it draws on a global sample, comprising respondents from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and North America. Overall, the findings provide a heterogeneous picture of how OA is perceived and practiced. Respondents appreciate the convenient way to access OA articles as readers and the opportunity to reach broader (non-academic) audiences as authors. However, due to high publication fees and concerns regarding quality and reputation, a positive attitude towards OA does not necessarily translate into willingness to choose this publication model. Especially researchers from low-income countries benefit from a barrier-free communication mainly in their role as readers and much less in their role as authors of scientific information. This is also evident at the institutional level, as OA policies or financial support through funding bodies are most prevalent in Europe and North America. These findings call for more attention to inner-scientific communication as part of (science) communication research.","PeriodicalId":149155,"journal":{"name":"Observatorio (OBS*)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125527481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Una singularidad de este estudio recae en la triangulación metodológica, con la combinación de dos técnicas de investigación empleadas: un tradicional análisis de contenido y, a su vez, un proceso de minería de datos mediante el lenguaje de programación Python. De esta manera, los resultados iniciales, que apuntan a un mayoritario uso de Telegram como herramienta de movilización y de acercamiento del candidato al votante, se refuerzan y contextualizan gracias a la implementación de técnicas de análisis Big Data que permiten profundizar de forma ágil y precisa en las deducciones del estudio.","PeriodicalId":149155,"journal":{"name":"Observatorio (OBS*)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126154342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El objetivo es describir la evolución de su presencia en dichos canales, tanto de manera individual como multiplataforma, así como de su actividad y notoriedad en cada uno de ellos. La investigación aplica un análisis cuantitativo longitudinal a un corpus formado por los blogs y las cuentas en redes sociales de los líderes de las candidaturas al Congreso de los Diputados presentadas en todas las circunscripciones por los partidos con mayor expectativa de voto en las Elecciones Generales de noviembre de 2011 (PP y PSOE), diciembre de 2015 (PP, PSOE, Podemos y Ciudadanos) y abril de 2019 (PSOE, PP, Ciudadanos, Unidas Podemos y Vox). Los resultados constatan el ocaso de los blogs, el declive de Facebook, la generalización de Twitter y la progresiva popularización de Instagram como plataformas de comunicación política electoral. Además, muestran que la adaptación digital de la clase política es todavía incompleta, siendo mayoría los candidatos que actualizan una o ninguna red, frente a los que publican en dos o tres.","PeriodicalId":149155,"journal":{"name":"Observatorio (OBS*)","volume":"69 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127984978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, there are few investigations based on the influence it can have on education, a reality that has come to stay and that cannot be ignored. With this research, this virtual environment has been addressed, dealing whit its analysis from an educational perspective, and taking as a reference four educational accounts on Instagram and four educational YouTube channels, whose educational quality has been determined through the curricular, pedagogical, didactic, technical, aesthetic, expressive aspects and their accessibility. In addition, the characteristics of these accounts and the edugramers and edutubers that manage them have been determined. When analyzing this reality, a mixed methodology has been used. For this, the methodological instruments that have been used throughout the research are the observation scale and the semi-structured interviews to an edugramer and two edutubers. The results show a great variety of educational accounts of quality in all aspects within the Instagram and YouTube platforms, as well as a series of common characteristics in these social media and a series of peculiarities shared by the educational instagramers and youtubers that manage these cyberspaces.","PeriodicalId":149155,"journal":{"name":"Observatorio (OBS*)","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130873088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
