One of the applied concepts is the plug & play (AC module). These systems use an integrated modular converter, formed by the combination, dc-dc converter plus inverter, to adapt the voltage generated by photovoltaic systems to the voltage of the grid. A commonly used version, is the traditional converter, without isolation, it is cheap, light and of high efficiency. A disadvantage is its low voltage conversion ratio. As a solution, a topology tapped inductor buck-boost converter, not-grounded output, in three operating modes, is proposed. The performance is evaluated by an electronic simulator PSpice and it is verified with a prototype. The collected data show the advantages of the presented converter.","PeriodicalId":147489,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Power Electronics Congress","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123795313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The studies are focused first with of open-loop and then with the closed-loop with the application of slew rate. Results show that the slew rate reduces the transient time period which is better for the life of the machine. The steady state error reduces to zero but takes longer time in the closed-loop method.","PeriodicalId":147489,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Power Electronics Congress","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130895070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Alongside the many benefits they provide, there are also collateral effects on the grid as consequence of dynamically deviating localized network parameters, which affects the protection system for instance. This paper reviews some effects of the STATCOM, TCSC and UPFC on equivalent parameters of the grid on faulted and non-faulted conditions. As main point, this paper also analyses the dynamic effects of the TCSC on the equivalent reactance of the neighborhood of the controller in the transit from pre-faulted to faulted condition. The steady state waveforms and those from the transient oscillations emerged during the faulted state are processed using wavelets to determinate effective protection and control actions. The results presented have been obtained by combining the capabilities of PSCAD and MATLAB-Simulink.","PeriodicalId":147489,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Power Electronics Congress","volume":"47 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131745902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The self-oscillating electronic ballasts have two important drawbacks, first, the lamp current varies according to the AC input voltage, causing undesired effects in the lamp brightness; and second, the design method lacks of precision at the very high frequency operation (greater than 200 kHz) due to the Cgs parasitic capacitance. The ballast is modelled by using the descriptive function method and the extended Nyquist criterion; the model of the ballast includes the control circuit and takes into account the high frequency effect of the Mosfet parasitic capacitance Cgs. Finally, experimental results of a 38 W self-oscillating electronic ballast prototype with constant-lamp-current control for HID lamps are presented to validate the analysis and the proposed methodology. The switching frequency is selected to 2MHz in order to avoid the acoustic resonance problem.","PeriodicalId":147489,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Power Electronics Congress","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125649059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A dc-dc converter prototype is built based on a full-bridge (FB) dc-dc converter topology. Extensive simulations in time domain and digital domain are explored and experimental results are also shown to validate the performance of this particular dc-dc converter. Basically, the dc-dc power converter will operate in a phase-shift (PS) mode along with a current-doubler high-frequency feature. This current-doubler scheme will allow an increase of output current capability with a low dc-output voltage under special load conditions. A prototype of a current-doubler has been built and tested on a phase-shift full-bridge (PSFBC) dc-dc converter with a 6V of dc-output voltage, and 2.5A for output current. A direct digital control design methodology is discussed, as well as simulation and experimental results of a digital controller are presented. Extensive discussion on experimental results and design issues are presented.","PeriodicalId":147489,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Power Electronics Congress","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128221672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method is based on the describing function method and allows minimizing the parasitic elements effects presented above 200 kHz by considering the gate-source parasitic capacitance of power Mosfets and the switching delay times. Its main advantage is a better operating frequency approximation and hence a better performance of the ballast. Experimental results of the proposed method are compared against a conventional method in a frequency range of 200 kHz to 2 MHz, showing the feasibility of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":147489,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Power Electronics Congress","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124692956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
