However, as a producer-oriented calculation method, cost-saving benefit analysis is limited in achieving accuracy because it fails to calculate benefits that are not selected as an item and benefits that occur indirectly. Hence, when applied to new modes of transportation that have been recently proposed for adoption, it fails to gain an advantage in terms of cost, and thus, faces the problem of calculating benefits in the form of minuses. Therefore, a method of calculating benefits based on demand function is required to more stably and accurately calculate benefits. The present study applied a user-oriented consumer-surplus benefit analysis method by using the logit model, which is a demand function applied in the modes choice process. The study induced a formula for defining the relationship between the logit model and the demand function and for calculating consumer-surplus benefits. The induced formula is able to calculate accurate benefits if the disparity in consumer surplus before and after implementation is calculated using the area of the demand function. The study made comparisons with cost-saving benefit calculation methods by converting calculated consumer surplus into forms of travel time/travel cost because initially calculated benefits are regarded as a unit of utility for consumer surplus. Furthermore, the study additionally considered benefit items that must be added as system cost items as well as non-choice mode benefit items which cannot be applied during consumer-surplus benefit calculation.","PeriodicalId":146954,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies","volume":"276 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114421969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As of 2019, delays occurred in 24,052 aircraft, which account for over 14% of all flights operated. This delay rate is about 1.5 times higher than the average delay rate of 9% at domestic airports. The factors which bring delays at Jeju International Airport may include saturation of runway capacity, poor weather conditions, and limitations in facility layout. However, there are insufficient empirical studies on how these factors have affected aircraft delays. This study analyzed the effects of airport operation characteristics, weather conditions, and aircraft operation characteristics on aircraft delay using tower-log data of Jeju International Airport and Aeronautical Climatological Statistics of Jeju International Airport of Aviation Meteorological Office. The result of the analysis shows, aircraft movements per day, aircraft movements per hour, time of day, wind, route and aircraft occupancy rate have a statistically significant effect on aircraft delay, and the relative importance of variables appeared in the order of aircraft movements per day, wind, visual, and aircraft occupancy rate. In addition, these variables were analyzed to have a statistically significant effect on the delay time of aircraft. The results of this research are expected to be used as a basic data for aircraft delay management in airport planning and operation, and contribute to improve methodology of the feasibility study for airport projects.","PeriodicalId":146954,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124037639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the overseas, widening lane line width is applied to consider traffic safety (i.g. sudden curve section, black spot) for convenient to recognize by elderly drivers. In Korea, the lane line width on expressway is designed as 10-15cm, but some countries have tried and operated wider lane line width for high risk areas. However, since the thickness of the lane line width can have various effects depending on the section characteristics, it must be appropriately used according to the situation. In this study, the effects of widening lane line width on different expressway facilities (i.e. straight sections, curved sections, and off-ramp) were evaluated to enhance traffic safety. Driving simulation experiments were conducted to analyze driving behaviour and performance based on changes of lane line width. Two groups of participants were formed based on age 50 to reflect the characteristics of the elderly drivers. The results showed that non-elderly drivers under 50 ages improved longitudinal safety in daytime in mainline straight sections. Also, semi-elderly drivers over 50 ages were found to be performing safety driving behaviour in off-ramp. The results derived from this study are expected to provide helpful insights to traffic engineers and policy makers to improve expressway safety.","PeriodicalId":146954,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128300704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cross Border Trade (CBT) is one of the trends driving the borderless world of e-commerce. As a result, Cross-border trade orders have skyrocketed around the world which is led by an increasing amount of people are shopping online across the borders. Now, it has become a great concern to provide logistics services to meet the demand for anytime, anywhere trade transactions and activities seamlessly. While customers always want a higher level of customer satisfaction, logistics companies are not able to accommodate all of their customers’ needs with their scarce resources, losing out on the chance to increase revenue generation. In order to meet the customer’s needs in the cross-border trade (CBT), it is important to explore which logistics quality attributes are recognized as important to customers and to reflect the results in corporate decision making. Therefore, this study seeks to explore which of service quality attributes constituting the logistics service are recognized as important and to identify the relationship between importance and necessity. To conduct this study, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and preliminary studies related to logistics service quality were referenced and reviewed. The survey was conducted by dividing the selected groups into sellers (customers) and logistics companies (providers). Results obtained were processed using AHP to comprehensively review and analyze the results of the two groups. By defining the factors that make up the quality of logistics services and identifying the relative importance of each factor, we contributed to prioritize service criteria to consider for improvement or innovation of logistics service quality. Accordingly, it would be a good reference for logistics companies to meet customer’s demand in an efficient allocation of resources by identifying the perception gap.","PeriodicalId":146954,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131545200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To carry out relevant policies, it is necessary to understand the choice behavior about feeder modes on first and last mile. Therefore we analyzed traveler’s mode choice behavior about electric scooter, autonomous bus, sharing bicycle and walking which can be introduced on First and Last Mile. On the mode choice behavior, the qualitative factors have influence as well as the quantitative factors. Therefore, this study quantified the qualitative factors which were implied “feeling danger” related to bicycle and electric scooter, and “concerning health” related to walking. The values of qualitative factor were estimated by using a binary logit model with socio-economic attributes and personal preference as independent variables, and the mode choice models were calibrated in the form of a multinomial logit model with traveler’s socio-economic attributes, mode service attributes, and qualitative factor as independent variables. The influence of the qualitative factors on traveler’s choice behavior was interpreted as unit of travel time. And the calibration analysis of transportation mode choice behavior at very short distances showed that the model is statistically significant. The calibrated model explained that the people in age 20s preferred to electric scooters comparing with other age groups and that houseperson tended to avoid walking. The passengers tended to feel danger to electric scooter more than bicycle. The effect of “feeling danger” and “concerning health” on the mode choice behavior in time unit, their effect was found as same as between 3.17 and 5.06 minutes. When considering that it is a very short-distance moving, the results showed that the qualitative factors of “feeling danger” and “concerning health” affect greatly on the traveler’s mode choice behavior. The study contributed to quantifying the qualitative factors for traveler’s mode choice behavior at very short distances. This made it possible to express the influence of qualitative factors numerically.","PeriodicalId":146954,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126386239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The peak DRT aggregates passengers with similar origins, destinations, and departure times into groups and provides a demand-responsive and express service for each group. This study evaluated the performance of introducing the peak DRT, then established the criteria to determine O-D pairs to introduce the DRT service. To achieve this, we assumed that the DRT should be introduced for O-D pairs with great demands and inferior public transportation services and identified O-D pairs to introduce the DRT under varying criteria: the minimum demand and the minimum difference of generalized travel time between private car and public transportation. We clustered individual public transportation trips on smartcard data by origins, destinations, and departure times, then generated a DRT route for each cluster and evaluated its cost and benefit. This procedure was repeated under varying criteria, and a criterion that maximizes the benefit-to-cost (B/C) ratio or maximizes the benefit while maintaining B/C at least one was selected. As a result, the number of DRT passengers as well as the benefit of DRT introduction were higher under a criterion maximizing the benefit than a criterion maximizing the B/C. This result implies that the criterion for peak DRT introduction should be determined to maximize the benefit than the B/C to provide the DRT service for more people.","PeriodicalId":146954,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131466795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
