This scanning through the available diversity paths followed by waiting is repeated indefinitely until a path with an acceptable quality is found. The performance of the resulting \"scan and wait\" combining (SWC) scheme is studied in terms of its average probability of error and ergodic capacity. The paper looks also into (i) the delay associated with SWC by deriving the statistics of the waiting time needed before satisfactory transmission occurs and (ii) the underlying complexity by studying the statistics of the number of diversity paths estimated per channel access. Selected numerical examples show that, for a fixed average number of channel estimates per channel access, SWC outperforms traditional diversity combining schemes at the expense of a negligible time delay.","PeriodicalId":146713,"journal":{"name":"First International Symposium on Control, Communications and Signal Processing, 2004.","volume":"80 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123228950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed it provides us a global view of the electrophysiological phenomena occurring in the heart. In this paper we use a 64 channel ECG recordings to analyse the variability of the T-wave shape. To perform this task new methods of comparison are applied, the distribution function method (DFM) and the integrated shape averaging (ISA). The latest takes into account the definition of shape equality where signals are related by time scaling factors and delays. The main property of this method is to produce an \"average signal\" which respects the shape equality principle. The given approach shows their capabilities, when analysing electrophysiological signals, on the application described above.","PeriodicalId":146713,"journal":{"name":"First International Symposium on Control, Communications and Signal Processing, 2004.","volume":"55 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123404271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method consists in estimating the H(/spl theta/) parameter of an anisotropic fractional Brownian field depending on the direction /spl theta/. We have tested this method on synthetic isotropic and anisotropic images. Results are of good quality. Then, it was applied to bone radiographic images described by their anisotropy, non stationary, and textured character. 109 images (70 controls and 39 osteoporosis cases) were examined. Results show the efficiency of the method to discriminate the two populations. Moreover they show that the structural organization of bone is more anisotropic for the osteoporotic cases than for control cases in accordance with the natural evolution of bone tissue linked to osteoporosis.","PeriodicalId":146713,"journal":{"name":"First International Symposium on Control, Communications and Signal Processing, 2004.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128834090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wireless communication landscape continues to experience dramatic changes due to the emergence of new systems driven by the rapid growth in information services provided by the Internet and the appearance of new multimedia applications. These growing trends point towards huge market potential for universal high-speed wireless data access. To make this possible, continues technology evolution to provide higher and higher data rates for wireless communications is a necessity. Unfortunately, the road to wireless ubiquity remains covered with potholes and challenges. In particular, a number of competing wireless systems are at an important crossroad. For example, the evolution of cellular systems to 3G versus the emergence of short-range wireless systems such as Wi-Fi and possible longer range wider-fi networks. This talk examines the opportunities and challenges facing truly ubiquitous wireless services and examine the various competing technologies. We also consider 3G systems and introduce some of the leading technological advances that enable broadband and high-speed data capabilities in the next-generation wireless networks.","PeriodicalId":146713,"journal":{"name":"First International Symposium on Control, Communications and Signal Processing, 2004.","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126656421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tracking controller proposed yields global stability and exponential convergence of the position tracking error to a neighborhood of the origin that can be made arbitrarily small. The desired trajectory does not need to be a trimming trajectory and can be sufficiently smooth time-varying bounded curve, including the degenerate case of a constant trajectory (set-point). The control algorithm builds on iterative Lyapunov-based techniques, in particular, integrator backstepping. This is an important issue since the availability of a Lyapunov function suits the need of robust control designs in the presence of noise measurements, handed disturbances, and unmeasured thruster dynamics.","PeriodicalId":146713,"journal":{"name":"First International Symposium on Control, Communications and Signal Processing, 2004.","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126669680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
